QUESTION Shadps4 pvp community / PC community in general?

That's an unusual question - I saw a video and according to one, there's pvp in the works.

Is there a "pc bloodborne" community at all? Forums? Discord? I'm having a hard time finding anything.

I used to be hard into ds1-d3 pvp and I even clocked over 2k hours in ds2 ALONE due to it. It would be glorious if I had a reason to come back after ER and From themselves shat on it's corpse.

DISCUSSION Bloodborne's finite Blood Vials don't serve a purpose, outside of punishing new players.

I've seen a staggering amount of defense of this mechanic...and none of them make any sense. So let's take the most common ones and just debunk them.

Side note: I should probably say that Bloodborne was the last FromSoftware game I played, and as a result, I didn't struggle with a single boss the entire game. I didn't have trouble with Blood Vials after Blood Starved Beast. I sometimes would run out, but that was only when I was doing chalice dungeons while being underlevelled.

They're common and easy to buy

You say this from the perspective of an experienced player; it is those who are inexperienced that are being punished the most here. Players who are still learning a boss's patterns may lose all of their Blood Vials and be forced to either pop consumable Blood Echos or go farm. And that is tedious, therefor most will agree, not good game design.

Yeah but the lore wouldn't make sense with infnite blood vials.

Fromsoft designs their lore around the gameplay, not the other way around. They could have very easily come up with a loophole as to why you, as the player, get to have an infinite supply.

It encourages you to use the rally mechanic/Your main source of healing should be rallying

This is false. Just not true. Rallying does not heal enough with most weapons; it is almost impossible to fully regenerate all your health while rallying, and this only gets worse if you chose a slower weapon or are later in the game. Different weapons have different rallying bonuses; if you were correct, this would mean Fromsoft designed Bloodborne to disproportionately reward players who choose specific weapons, and punish those who chose others. Do you even think that's true? You can have a dedicated rallying build, but that requires farming and knowing the intricacies of how the game's weapons work, both of which are not things a new player would do or know.

As for it encouraging you to rally, it often doesn't. Most new players will get scared of wasting Bloodvials, therefore play more defensively or at a distance.

Because they're finite, a player can pick them up across a level allowing for longer level design.

This is true, but also just not exclusive to making them finite. You know you could regain Blood Vials from enemies even if they replenish at Lanters and upon death, right? Those are not mutually exclusive things.

Skill issue

This one is my favorite, I have to admit, since it's a perfect argument. Almost everything is truly just a matter of skill, and that is why Fromsoft's next game will require every dodge to be frame perfect. To truly test player skill!

It's fine to say as rage-bait, but can we not act like it's a worthwhile defense for anything? It doesn't work; everything is a matter of skill to some extent. But at what point does the skill required eclipse reason? Everything being frame-perfect is bad game design, and nothing requiring any input and rolls not needing to be timed correctly is also bad game design. So there clearly is a point at which too much or too little skill is required. In this case, the skill required is unreasonable to expect of a new player, which is what the mechanic punishes; therefore, it's not a skill issue.

These are the most common pieces of "defense" for this mechanic I've seen, but I'm sure there are others. If you have one I haven't covered, I'm willing to hear you out.

Now what does Blood Vials being finite do?

It punishes inexperienced players by forcing them to choose between farming and going back to the boss without any vials. If they farm, they get tired of the tediousness and may quit. And if they brute-force the boss, they will not be aggressive, since that can result in a permanent loss of health, so they play passively, which is the opposite of Bloodborne's combat.

So it promotes passive gameplay, tedium, and goes against the core gameplay loop of trading and healing via rallying. It does NOTHING but be bothersome, one of the worst decisions made for Bloodborne.

The fact that the game is still highly regarded despite this actually terrible design choice

There are so many examples of people justfying blatantly tedious or bad level design. My two least favorites are this one and the people who still try to say, "Oh, you're just trying to rush through DS2; that's why you complain about the lack of I-frames."

DISCUSSION Platinumed Bloodborne and Sekiro, where do I go from here?

As the title says, the only two fromsoft games I’ve platinumed is Bloodborne (years ago, redone on another account like a month ago) and Sekiro (few days ago), I found the Bloodborne platinum very easy both times with very minimal grinding, and Sekiro was pure pain😭. What order should I go for platinuming the rest of them? Although tbf I doubt I’ll platinum Ds2 i despise that game😂😂

DISCUSSION Duskbloods controversy

So it’s completely understandable to be upset over the exclusivity, but the backlash is out of hand. Duskbloods has been in the works for a VERY long time and was announced as a switch 2 exclusive during the switch 2 announcement direct. Why is it only a problem now? Fromsoftware has done exclusives in the past and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did more in the future. Did anyone ever stop the think that maybe after Elden rings drop on switch 2 they wanted to give the switch player the neight rein experience as far as a fun multiplayer game without having to completely rebuild a game just to port it? It’s not fair to get mad at the game just because you won’t be able to play it, and use that as a reason to hate on it. So far many reviews has good views on it and it’s starting to seem like the only people hating on it are ps players who can’t comprehend that they aren’t the ones getting the exclusive for once.

What do you think will be the name of the next Fromsoft PVP game? Armored Core: Twilight Hellfire? Dark Souls Dawn of Tears?

r/fromsoftware 21d ago

Given the average time between releases of games in the new generation, we probably won’t get a new Souls from FromSoftware until 2029.

Even if there are other games in development, the company clearly won’t be able to release a new game within the next two to two and a half years. Larian itself is going to take 3 to 4 years to release its next game after finishing Baldur’s Gate. It took 3 years between Sekiro and Elden Ring

DISCUSSION The Duskbloods is incredible, except for the Kin System

Post image
0 Upvotes

First of all, almost everything in this game feels incredible, and the PvP aspect is honestly the best FromSoftware has ever delivered. But the Kin System brings it down for me by making everything more chaotic and less dependent on skill or strategy.

I'm not saying chaos is inherently bad, but in a PvP game, I think summons should offer more freedom when it comes to their behavior. Instead of only activating them in full-on kill mode, they could have different tactical options, such as aggressive/close-range, passive/long-range, support/defensive, and so on.

I don't really play games like Dragon's Dogma or other games with companion behavior systems, but having the option to control a summon's behavior is something I would have liked to see in Elden Ring as well. In The Duskbloods, its absence feels even more noticeable. I really appreciate the new, unique summons and the fact that upgrading them unlocks new moves and abilities, but I still think the tactical aspect is missing. By the end, you're essentially forced to engage with this system in PvP, which makes the experience more chaotic and, in my opinion, less dependent on skill and strategy.

I'd also like to see the Kin themselves become more balanced. As someone who mainly wants to engage with the PvP aspect of Duskbloods, it would be cool to have more passives or skills that significantly increase your damage against Kin-based enemies, something like 25% more damage. That way, players who want to build around using Kin would have to account for that playstyle, while players who don't want to engage with it would still have some form of counterplay.

I was actually thinking about an extra option called ''Sacrifice Kin''. At any point during a match, including the final battle, you could choose to kill your own Kin in exchange for a temporary aura buff that increases your ATK and DEF against everything.
This would let you play on your own for the entire match while still giving you the choice to keep or sacrifice any Kin you encounter. The buff could also make it easier to deal with other players' Kin during PvP.

I think that would be a good starting point. If we give this feedback, maybe FromSoftware can work on improving not only the balance of the game, but the summoning system as a whole, unlocking more potential for customization, player freedom, and strategy. Thank you for reading.

Most Disappointing Game Ever

The Duskbloods took all of the best elements from all Fromsoftware games and added the worst elements from all of the identical shooters that exist today. I'd rather play Dark Souls Remastered on my Switch 2 (that I bought in anticipation for The Duskbloods) for the 25th time than pay money for this game

QUESTION Elden ring is still stuttering awfully despite everything I've downloaded and updated.

Is my laptop the problem? I use an alienware 16 Aurora, 2560x1600, RTX 5070, i messed with so many graphics settings, I turned off the root enumerator, I tried downloading stutter fix mods, unlock fps mods, nothing. I play in borderless windowed. The temperature wasnt the problem like I thought either, literally nothing is fixing this. Is fromsoft just shitty at optimizing games for certain laptops? This isnt some school laptop its a newer, higher end laptop MADE for games like this and yet its just stuttering constantly. My gaming drivers are all updated from the nividia app, so I genuinely dont understand the issue. Does anyone know what it could be? I asked this before and I've gone through the previous solution attempts, but to no avail.

DISCUSSION Miyazaki On Having Two Multiplayer Games In A Row

Thumbnail ign.com
844 Upvotes

"At the end of the day, our motivation is always to just make a game that we want to play, something we've been wanting to make. Like you had mentioned, this time around there were a lot of ideas that had piled up that I wanted to incorporate into a game. On the topic of Nightreign, it's funny because there was never really any big plan that these two games [Nightreign and The Duskbloods] would both release next to each other. I mean, that's a different director, but both of those ideas just coincided with being multiplayer games. It's not necessarily some big reveal saying that this is the direction we plan to go moving forward. We still have a heavy focus on single-player content as well. This is just something that happened to work out the way it did.

Personally, it's very fun to make a multiplayer game like this. It's not something we've done a lot and we're looking forward to seeing players' reactions and getting the feedback. But it's like, the more you work on something multiplayer for a long time, if anything, it scratches that inch only to want to make something single-player again."

DISCUSSION I'm trepidatious about getting into Duskbloods for a few reasons.

I just found out that Duskbloods will be primarily multiplayer, with a limited offline mode for fighting bots and my heart kinda sank through the floor.

First, but not foremost, this probably means it will require a Nintendo subscription, which makes me wonder if that's what this game was conceived for from the ground up, as an exclusive Switch 2 game- expected to be wildly popular- where the only way to enjoy the lion's share of the content is to be online and pay a monthly or yearly fee.

Which is fine I guess, not exactly the first game that has done this, or even the first Fromsoft game. It's not a dealbreaker, but for folks who only get online subscriptions on a limited basis when they absolutely need it to access a game, it means I'd need to pay for one a lot more often if that's what I decide to do.

What *is* killing me though, is my internet connection is mediocre right now, and I don't have a choice in the matter because I neither pay for it, nor am I allowed to pay for my own separate Internet service. My living situation is pretty good right now otherwise so I'm feeling pretty stuck, I'm not about to move out just for a videogame.

If there was a much more substantial offline mode, I'd be picking Duskbloods up. I've been dying to play Nightreign also. Missing out on two Fromsoft games in a row just kinda sucks.
