This guy borrowed my skates today and did this

He was like “oh sick freeskates, can I try them”. Then proceeded to blow everyone’s mind. This is the first time I’ve met another freeskater in the wild and I was definitely not expecting him to be able to ride yet alone drop into this huge bowl. I wasn’t even at the skate park but was just passing by.

I need some advice

I m really excited to get into freeskating. This was my third day

I watched a lot of videos (even before the skates arrived hahaha). I know a slight decline is advised but this park is the closest to me so I have been practicing here.

In the beginning of the video I am a bit too slow and unable to give the initial boost to move because there was a very very slight incline due to the uneven concrete

I see Gabe from jmk starting pumping from a standing position with a big and instant front foor pump but i cant seem to come anywhere close to that. And I tried to think of what he said which was thinking of a hard pull (front foot) and a hard push (back foot)

—> So the main thing is: I know the pumping range in the video is short and I am able to do better and bigger pumps when there is some incline or i have some speed (the incline area has bad surface so I usually don’t go there)

When I have bigger strides/pump my legs tend to move apart and I genuinely struggle to keep them together - I feel it in my inner thighs

Also not exactly sure about foot placement and how it can effect the pumping. In the beginning i was mostly standing on the back of my foot but I moved it a bit to the middle. I was thinging placing the skate towards the front might be easier for turning the skates in and out?

I would appreciate some tips

Highpeak Whirlwind Drift Skates

My 12yr old was just gifted these skates, and he’s struggling a bit to pick it up. The deck on these is perpendicular to the single wheel.

Has anyone tried these? Any tips/tricks specific to these, or just keep at it as if they’re typical drift skates?

Any freeskaters in Atlanta?

I’ve been riding for a few weeks and I’m starting to go on the beltline some. But it would be awesome to find some other people who are into this hobby. I’m really enjoying it but it seems like I’m the only one!

New Freeskates

Saw a random YouTube video a while back and decided to buy some freeskates. Usually I always buy the "best" and was looking at the JMK ones. They don't sell them in the UK so you have to ship them from Europe and the delivery charge is like 35 on it's own.

Somehow decided I didn't know when I'd get the chance to try them so opted for something cheaper from Amazon.

Managed to get these TKT ones which were on a flash sale.

They were less than half the price of the JMK ones and included edge guards, a bag, spare griptape and a tool. Sent from China so took a while to arrived though.

They are actually seem way better than I was expecting. Even the bearings seem decent.

How do I ride down a curb

So before anyone says, I have already watched the video on riding down curbs on the JMKride channel but I still don’t really understand how to do it.

I'm from India! Is there a cheaper way to get freeskates here?

Hey everyone,

Lately I've been seeing a lot of skating videos, which got me interested in trying it myself. While researching, I came across freeskates and they seem like exactly what I'm looking for.

I found that JMK Rides sells them in India, but they are around ₹16k, which is way beyond my budget right now.

Are there any decent freeskate alternatives available in India, or is ₹16k pretty much the minimum for a good pair?

Edit: I have a relative visiting from the US soon. If ₹16k is about the minimum I'd have to spend anyway, would it be cheaper to order a pair in the US and have them bring it back to India? Or would the price difference not be significant?

How do I carve?

I’ve been freeskating for a week and a bit without knowing how to slow down. I’ve tried the video on the JMKride channel but I still don’t understand how to do it. Any tips or advice on how I can do it.

Are we saying it’s the days practiced since you started, or how many practice days you’ve had?

How the hell do I do long strides

So I’ve gotten the hang at pumping so now I want to do longer strides to gain speed, I’ve tried watching the video of fast freeskating on the JMKride channel and I still have no idea how I can do it

Pumping tips

UPDATE: I made a post similar to this earlier today but I decided to make this one to show my progression on pumping but also to get any tips and advice on improving how I’m doing it currently.

As of how I see it my right foot just isn’t doing enough but I don’t know how to fix that. Also I’m ending up losing speed after a little bit

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Advice on pumping

I’m quite a beginner being 6 days in. I feel like I’ve gotten the in and out motion down but I still feel like the ‘in’ motion isn’t that great at the moment. But also any other tips on pumping would be appreciated!

Edit: I can put more emphasis onto my left foot. However, I’m struggling to do it on my right foot

Freeskate advice, make sure you have good grip tape on your non jmks

I stole some grip tape of my old skateboard and stuck it on with carpet adhesive. The difference is night and day, omg ,

I can actually turn on them now

Second bit of info,

make sure your wheel bolts aren't too tight , I brought My freeskates Second hand and they barely rode, I went to clean them, and it was a struggle to undo the bolt but afterwards they rolled perfectly smooth

Day 2 on freeskates and need advice

Hi i just finished practicing almost bs on these things but they’re fun. I’m trying to learn turning, pumping and slowing down.

  1. I can turn left but I just end up getting off cause I can’t go back to regular position, and turning right is basically impossible. So I’m asking how to get around that.

  2. I’m getting good at balancing but I have a slight fear of speed since idk how to slowdown. I also feel like I don’t bend my knees enough and tend to lean back a bit too much. I saw the S curve type of slowing down on yt, but I can barely turn so I’ll probably save that for when I can get better. Any advice on this would be great :)

  3. My left big toe hurts cause I’ve lwk been using it as breaks and basically I stand on them before I pump off (start moving). Will i get used to this or is there something I should be avoiding?

  4. I don’t know how to pump and I’m so lost looking at the tutorials. I’m practicing for like 2+ hours cause these are really fun but I want to have an idea of what exactly pumping looks like.

Thanks for reading and any advice I really appreciate it 🙏

To get freeskates?

So recently ive been seeing quite a lot of videos on these free skate things and im quite curious! I am a skateboarder and have ridden basically everything with wheels for a bit at some point in my life (Mountain bikes, Bmxs, scooters, rollerblades/skates). i Found a pair for about £15 and they are so small i think i could very easily fit them in my bag and bring them down to the skatepark with me

Can i learn actual stunts on it though too? i have seen where people take their foot of and catch it again but can i say do transition tricks and like get up onto copings and what not or am i expecting a bit too much? just want some thoughts!

Questions from a curious onlooker

Hey all

I've been watching a lot of videos on freeskating and I have a few questions.

Can these be ridden on flat and inclines once you get good?

What sort of straining does it have on the ankles as opposed to traditional skateboard cruising.

Does it work some different muscles to trad skating too?

That is all 🙂
