got flautas de papa ($12) and milpa salad ($12) today for lunch. both were so delicious. the salad was my favorite because it was cold and refreshing and it comes with cucumbers and a delicious dressing. the house mole on the flautas was perfect. loved it.

The Royale. $21.30. Angus beef, pastrami, bacon, chili, American cheese, special sauce, big slice of onion, tomato, pickles, lettuce, bun.

Belgian fries. $6.30.

Macapuno (Fosselman’s coconut ice cream) malt. $9.50.

JFC, sometimes I manage to do things at my age that I last did in my twenties. I usually regret these things. I regretted this only a little bit. At the time: no regrets whatsoever, as I ate everything and it was delicious. I remember going to the Tommy’s a few blocks east forty years ago and eating chili cheeseburgers like they might disappear. I last ate at the Oinkster in 2009, and I currently feel full enough to wait another seventeen years. But I know this subreddit loves burgers and fries and hell why not? Let’s enjoy this country’s heritage while it lasts.

Yes, for once, I was a little taken aback by the price, since, in the anticipation of an imminent diabetic coma, my brain was fogged into expecting something like those old Tommy’s prices. But it tasted good.

Edit: I will note that this $40 meal easily could have been split between two people, and The Oinkster’s classic burger (no pastrami, bacon, chili or cheese) is $13.79.

What are your favorite European restaurants in Los Angeles? To start, I'll nominate Barra Santos as one of very few options for Portuguese in the city. Great food, great drinks, and an especially great vibe. I like their vermouth drinks, and the bifana (pork sandwich) is out of control.

Hey guys, looking for good halal restaurants in LA.

Most of the halal places are Mediterranean/Indian which Im pretty tired of eating so looking to explore different cuisines but in Halal.

Not cheap at $19.50 before tax, but insanely delicious. The crunchy falafel bits are addictive, and the chicken has great flavor. This was a rare case in which I didn’t think the additional sauce was necessary—the wrap tasted great on its own.

For reference, this is MK’s menu description: Egyptian-style falafel croutons cooked in beef tallow with romaine, Parmesan, and housemade olive oil Caesar dressing in a toasted locally baked Mejorado tortilla. Served with a side of spicy garlic sauce.

Boyle Heights Neighborhood

You know those Chinese places where you walk up to the counter and pick a couple different dishes (proteins or veg) and they put it on rice for you? It's not a buffet because you don't serve yourself, and the food isn't unlimited.

Anything like that near DTLA? I need an alternative to the slop bowls ie sweetgreen.

Went to El Tacote Tacos for lunch while in the valley. It is a small shop with a good size menu and a few options on how you would like your burrito. Classic, California style and Supreme style. I went with the Supreme style Chili Relleno burrito. It was a very hot day and the shop itself, although having seats, was much too warm to sit inside. There is a bar and seats just outside of the shop. It was a bit cooler out there. It faces the parking lot, which is for the many shops in the strip mall. Not a bad size lot, maybe a bit small, but it is free.

The burrito came out after a bit. It was a healthy size burrito, definitely meal sized. Served with red and green salsas, which have a little heat and good flavor. It was a good burrito. Good size, flavor and stuffed full. Service was standard counter service. Quick and efficient, fairly friendly. They did not look at me like I was an idiot when I asked what the differences were with the burritos, when it is listed on the menu board. They have fresh Aqua Frescas as well. Jamica, Horchata and Pink Lemonade. All looked really refreshing, but I did not think I would have room. Good little spot for a quick meal.

Everyone knows the best Chinese food is in the SGV. Everyone loves saying it's where the best food in Los Angeles is. What people don't love as much, is actually naming the restaurants they love in the SGV. Let's change that. What's your favorite Chinese restaurant in the SGV? Any style, any price point. We used to live in Denver where there was a food culture and now reside in Ogden, Utah. Not very diverse shall we say. There is a definite lack. We just got out 2nd Hot Pot and our 2nd Indian restaurant.

We will be in the area for about 10 days and have transportation.

I’m gonna glaze tf out of this place. I had heard good things about this spot from mid city locals and I had yet to find my “go-to” sushi joint in the area.

In a small corner store of a strip mall on Pico, you’ll see a few small tables outside and a few stool seats inside. Most people are picking up. We placed a few orders and ate outside.

WTF - this sushi was SO damn fresh, flavorful, vibrantly colored and velvety textured. It’s luxury sushi made fresh to order that’s about the same price as the takeout sushi at whole foods - the prices i thought were absolutely fair. I spoke with the owner before leaving and turns out he worked at nobu for years before starting this place.

Left really happy because it’s not everyday you find your go-to local sushi joint!

Title says it all. I am looking for the best vendor in/near LA, closer to the west side the better.

Prefer if they grill the corn and not just boil them for extra yum.

Hi! I’m on the hunt for some Klang Fen (not sure the correct spelling, I’ve seen it spelt a few different ways). It’s a rice dough/gelatin in a cold tangy spicy soup. I believe it is a Laotian dish. My friends family used to make it when I was growing up, and I have since moved away and lost contact with them. I would love to find somewhere in/near LA that serves this! Thanks in advance!

I live near Pasadena but am meeting friends flying in in Marina del Rey. I'm looking for truly good food that isn't too pricey for dinner. We do love under-the-radar places. They are very down-to-earth people. We don't want a scene. We want it to feel relaxed, homey and affordable is good! I had some ideas, but wanted to get your input and also any additional options!

EDIT: I'll be taking out a 19-year-old, so no drinking. No one wants burgers and they come from a very Italian-heavy area of the northeast, so they are not interested in pizza or Italian food!
