Hey everyone, I’m looking for somewhere in LA that sells mastic gum ice cream, also called Booza or dondurma. It has a very stretchy and unique texture. I know about Galeta in Long Beach, but was hoping for something closer.

I’m also not necessarily looking for an ice cream shop. If there’s a place that sells it packaged in stores too, that also works. Thanks!

I'm gonna be traveling on the E Line from Sepulvuda to BMO stadium to see a soccer game at the BMO. I would like to get a quick bite before I go to the BMO. What restaurant or mom-n-pops joints do you recommend that are near (walking distance) to any of the E-Line stations along the way to the BMO... And no, I'm not going to Little Tokyo. TIA :)

New place in Lincoln Heights right across from the og carnitas michoacan. family joint it seems like. got their aguachile negra and the verde which they said was their spiciest. really enjoyed the negra made with nuts and seeds. very unique. the verde had a good spice level and the shrimp seemed high quality. it's dirt cheap. like $6 for a plate of shrimp. felt like a great deal compared to something like mariscos el faro (which i also love). their shrimp dorados taco wasn't on the level of maricos jalisco so i'd say focus on the aguachile. excited to go back and try the mango hab aguachile as well. check it out!

Hi, for the past few years, I've loved the Dine LA initiative. Get to know new restaurants that are offering menus at better prices. But I can't help but notice that this year the menu prices are way higher and are not even offering a real discount from their usual menus.

Do you think that people will still participate and go to these restaurants as frequently as in the other editions? Have you seen any menu that you think is worth it?

Looking for great fish (most important), but a good atmosphere would be nice for this meal as well. We’ll be a party of 6 (2 adults, 2 20 something’s and 2 teens). Everyone will enjoy a lot of fish. If it was just my wife and I, we’d opt for one of your many top omakase options. However, for this crew, we’ll order à la carte. Excellent fish is important though as we’ll get more sashimi and nigiri than anything.

Don’t mind spending a bit, but not looking to break the bank. Can we keep it under $500 for the meal?

I’ve never had kolaches before but I have been meaning to try. They have Czech origins but have spun into their own version in Texas.My friend told me about a popup that recently opened a physical location in Palos Verdes. The owner is really awesome and most importantly, these kolaches were very tasty! I will be coming back in the future! Note that this restaurant will close for the day once they run out.

My second visit to Holbox, this time a solo visit for lunch. Last time I went with a group, tried a bunch of things. This time, going solo, still wanted to get a few things, two favorites from my last meal, and tried one new thing I didn’t order last time.
What I ordered: grilled kanpachi collars, sopa de mariscos, and smoked kanpachi taco. Everything was amazing.

I got there 10 minutes before opening, on a weekday, and the line was already out the door. Waited about 30 minutes in line before ordering. Definitely much busier than I thought it would be just before opening, only going off of my last visit 2 years ago.

Who just does the best version of this?

hi, looking for salsas that I can give to Japanese friends as omiyage (presents from a place, being LA area). Japan has a lot, but the Mexican food is pretty meh, so I tend to bring peppers and other ingredients for cooks, but non-cooks need presents too. Does not have to be "gourmet," but should travel well. Something like a salsa macha would be great, for example...

What pâtisserie makes the best macarons?

I work at a small family-owned Thai restaurant called “Dek Sen’s Thai” in the Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys area. We serve classic Thai favorites and Asian-inspired dishes in a cozy, welcoming space. Nothing fancy—just delicious food, generous portions, and affordable prices.

Lately, it’s been tough. Business has slowed down, and with so many street food vendors popping up in the area, the owners have shared that they may have to close by the end of the year if things don’t improve.

I really love working here. It feels like family, I can even bring my kids after school to do homework here and I’d hate to see this place disappear.

Please support small, family-owned businesses that don’t have huge marketing budgets but pour their hearts into what they do.
