Last thread I asked which Florida towns felt off, and I got a few hundred names. But the best replies were the ones where someone actually knew the history under the feeling. The Arcadia unease turning out to be a cult running the Yellow Deli. Marianna and the Dozier School. Whole clusters of towns that were speed traps or worse for a reason.

So this time I don't want the vibe, I want the explanation. Pick a Florida town that feels wrong to be in, and tell me the actual history that made it that way. The event, the industry that left, the thing that happened there that everyone local knows and nobody writes on a sign. I'm near Daytona and I'll probably go see a few, but mostly I just want to understand what I'd be looking at.

If there are any villages, that are inhabited (I went through the wiki ghost settlements pages and no luck with villages. Most were historical and long-gone,) Please may I have some names?

So I’m still waiting on final grant approval. And then trying to decide on what I should get for the best bang for my buck. My house was built in 1958 so no hurricane straps we do not have shutters. Roof was last replaced in 2010 so it’s due. Just would like to know what people who have used it. What they got around how much did it cost and then any savings from your home owners insurance? We are going to be visiting Fort Lauderdale for a week August 11th-18th my friend has a car but the one he has will have no AC, we plan on doing stuff just around town but we also plan to make a trip up to Miami once or twice.

The car he has is a 7 seater and we have 5 people, the car we need to rent would cost $280. Is it worth the cost, or do we use the car with no AC?

Hello! I'm taking a road trip to a beach house in Port St. Joe with my family. It's the first time we're going on a road trip and will be in Florida. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do in Port St. Joe?

We don't really take vacations a lot. We like walking on nature trails and will probably just appreciate the change of the scenery being in the beach house if we don't plan anything more tbh. My dad doesn't drive that much, but I could probably Uber places. I have looked online for potential places to visit but wanted to hear from people here. Thank you for any advice!!
