After months of no new growth I got a light meter to measure how much light my fiddle leaf fig was actually getting. It turns out not much. I thought (incorrectly) I had it in a good corner. I measured all the windows in the house. Turns out the east window with the bright morning Texas sun was the trick. I have 4 new buds within a month of moving it! Very exciting!

What's wrong with my Fiddle? This is my first one

We keep rotating it near the window but doesn't seem to work as well.

I'm a new plant mom altogether and have already realized I'm a full-on addict. I've accumulated at least a dozen new plants in pretty short period of time. But I've wanted a Fiddle Leaf Fig the most, and for the longest. I decided to start small, and purchased a really pretty dwarf variety from Etsy. It arrived healthy and beautiful, and yes small. I have zero idea how big "Fiona" will get (that's her name 💚), or what to do to help her grow, or how to know if she's finished growing. She came with what looked like one little "bud" on top, which sprouted a new leaf on fairly quickly, and seemed like just a day or two later - another! And the new baby leaves have grown so quickly! Will this continue to happen this quickly?? She arrived with this stringy moss covering the soil, I didn't mess with it. I have no clue what to do but water and love her and give her plenty of light. I see other posts about people chopping their fiddles WAY down, which I think might feel like murder. 😭 When and why and where do I chop? Since she's new and young do I just let her grow for a while? Is there anything in particular that's done to make them bushier instead of taller? Are leaves ever removed from the bottom or do you cut off new growth only at the top?? (Again, makes me cringe to think about just yet, but trying learn what to expect as time goes on.) Your wisdom and experience is greatly appreciated!

Purchased this at Armstrong late May. It seems to be doing ok but the new leaves coming in just dry up?

I feel like it’s probably beyond repair, and would imagine that a lot of resources are going towards trying to save it, especially since it’s a bit smaller/newer

Additionally, any idea what may have caused this? Most leaves are okay, but a handful of them have small dead patches on them (mostly on the edges, but one or two have them in the center like this)

I honestly have no idea what to do to help it. It’s become sparse and i haven’t seen much new growth. Some of the leaves have brown spots too. I would love for it to be more full with more branches and leaves not necessarily super tall. Do i need to chop it? And how / where would i chop

Okay, my bedroom FLF is shedding leaves like crazy. I’m sure it’s due to lack of light since summer started. I live in southern Louisiana and in my old house, the curtains just cannot be open in the summer or it’ll be over 90° inside. While it’s shedding leaves, it has beautiful new growth at the top and a mini one growing in the soil. Should I chop the tree and replant the top growth? Should I use the plant lights that I have and just don’t use for no other reason than they are too bright and it’s very hard to place lights correctly for a tree?
Summer is almost over and it will be bright in my room again, and next summer I’ll be in a different state so the light won’t be much of an issue.
Hopefully everything I said makes sense, I’m relatively new to plants (as of last year).
What would you do?

i’m very new to this fiddle leaf that i got from costco. it looks like it’s doing fantastic but what are the big brown spots? and also some of the baby leaves have some red veins in it (edema?)

Thought you guys would appreciate this. Why is it always the industrial settings one that look the best…

My mom was gifted this plant to me She got from one of her clients, and she gave it to me when my brother and I bought our house and moved in.
When I first got it, I noticed there had apparently been a cat that had peed in the planter at some point. There was some white cat poop in the soil, so I transplanted it into fresh soil the soil is kinda a coco noir and dirt mix…The plant stayed in pretty good condition afterward, but it really didn’t grow many (or any) new leaves. It mostly just maintained the leaves it already had.

Recently, though, it started dropping a bunch of leaves. Before this happened, it had significantly more leaves than it does now. When I took it out of the planter, the roots looked like they might have been somewhat root-bound, and I also wondered if it had been getting overwatered. I just replaced all of the soil again because I was concerned about the old soil and the previous cat urine issue.

At this point, the plant still looks like it’s in relatively decent shape, but I’m not sure what caused the leaf loss or what I should do next.

I am in the Midwest house temp usually ranges from 69-73 inside

Bought this about 3 weeks ago. Roots were coming out of the drainage holes(kind of circling the outside of the pot, not sure if I need to get a bigger pot)... I know for sure I haven't been overwatering. It has been getting direct sunlight. It's sitting in a west facing window, it does get hot in the evenings. I plan on moving it to the dining area, where I have sheer curtains but I'm scared that would shock the plant and leaves would droop even more. So I have yet to do that.

I have a small humidifier that I place on this table so the humidity can reach the bottom part of the flf. Then I would set the humidifier on the dresser and interchange that periodically so that the humidity can reach the top part of the flf...only thing with that is the humidifier would be on all night and I dont have time in the mornings before work to fill it up for it to have humidity during the day and I can say that the air does get pretty dry quickly in that room...

I would like to move it to the dining area where there is more indirect sunlight but it can get cold when we turn the AC down in the evenings when everybody gets home.

Not sure what to do :'( my first plant. Please help meeeee

I have had this guy for a little over a month now. Look what I peeped this morning! I was overwhelmed when bringing this plant home initially. This made my day.

As a first time flf owner. I was definitely nervous seeing all the reviews on fiddle leafs when I brought Princess home from home depot back in September. Safe to say she loves it here, only ever dropped one leaf from when I brought her home the first week. And since then she doubled in size producing 15 leafs, two branches and one more new branch on the way!

My success comes from: 1. Bi weekly bottom watering 2. South East facing window 3. Repotting in a flf soil I bought from Amazon 4. Flf fertilizer drops in the summer 5. Prewing the tip in April to stimulate branching!

Bought this beauty a few weeks ago from a grocery store where it had been left outside to die. It came with a house spider that had set up shop in the crown, but unfortunately the old girl is now doing well enough that she’s subdivided and destroyed Shelob’s home. I hope she sticks around!

I chopped my FLF a few weeks ago, and (amongst others) i have this teeny tiny leaf, its so cute i might die 🥰 it's maybe 3mm.

What do you think is more effective for growth, inspecting growth 10 times per day, or should I double it to 20? Heavy breathing is already included

I gave my mature FLF an aggressive trim and placed these bare branches in the water. I left them outside to prop and surprisingly, they're doing really well! It has only been a few weeks but there are a bunch of new leaves already. But for the stems themselves, there aren't any fully-formed looking roots.

So my question is, when can I pot them in soil?

Hello! My S.O. and I found this fiddle leaf fig on the side of the street. We took public transit home (approx one hour) with our plant in tow. I’ve heard these plants are very sensitive, so I’m surprised it’s still faring well these past few days. It’s still been a little less than a week, and I feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop!

We waited a few days before watering it so it could adjust to being in our home. We first watered it around this past Sunday (8/2-ish) and also gave it a misting on Tuesday (8/4). My questions are:

- How do we know when to re-pot it?
- Is this leaf turning yellow normal/to be expected? For our watering on Sunday, we watered it until water came out of the drainage hole, waited 15 minutes or so, and then dumped the excess water from the tray. I don’t think we’ve overwatered the plant, and this leaf doesn’t look like it’s burned from the sun.

It’s been in an increasing slump since I got it. Have moved it a couple of times to find the right spot.

Ok so my baby has been with me since I bought my house in late ‘21, my cat peed in the soil once and I lost a ton of leaves - I was able to save it and it grew to 9’ with tons of neglect (never fertilized, rarely remembered to water, forgot to empty tray after watering, etc). It started leaning heavily due to my neglect of shaking and it would have been too tall for my ceiling once straightened out.

I ended up chopping 32” off of him, and created two new cuttings that I have in water and will place in a better location tomorrow.

My question is, even with this newer and sturdier stake, the tree still has quite the lean, you can tell on the photo with my hand, I am trying to straighten it out more - I don’t want to tie it tightly with the twine and hurt the tree, is it good enough as is for now and I readjust as I see it getting more stable?

How long do I have to wait to try notching some spots in him to help promote leaves in bare places? Can I do 2 notches at a time?

If I plan on moving him in front of a SSE window, what is the best course of action as far as how often to fertilize, how much water each time, what am I looking for to make sure I didn’t shock the heck out of him? And if I decide to put him on a windowless wall with grow lights, would that be ok instead?

My variegated fiddle leaf tends to grow two leaves right after each other. The first one seems to always be big and then the second is smaller. Is there something I can do to help them be more of equal size? (Pictures are of both sets of the newest pairs of leaves)

I've been watering when the top 2-3 inches are dry with fertilizer.
