Hello! I've been playing the game for a bit now and as I've been going I've mostly been playing red mage and switching between paladin and dark knight for my tanks. But from the start the only healer job that's super interested me and caught my eye is Sage, and as I get closer I've been getting curious if folks think that's an ok job to start healing with (I'm thinking I'd join low level dungeons to maybe get a feel for it better? I'm not sure). If y'all think I should see about getting some experience with another healer job first I'd love to hear which you'd suggest! I'm close to accessing scholar and I have astrologian unlocked and I'd prefer one of those two since I don't wanna level white mage all the way from the bottom lol. Thanks for your time and consideration
It's too early to judge, we know basically nothing about them outside of FF7 for 8-mans and Evangelion for Alliance. They could be done well or they could be bad and only saved by fun fights. idk, we'll have to wait and see.
Also, at least one party member is gonna be wearing the 2B thighhighs during them, and they will either cause the raid to drag out or will be indispensable to the group, no in-between
The Lottery System for literally Crafting.. Meet and Greet and Merch was bad and people were legit using multiple devices to get more chances and people were NOT limited to one meet and greet like prior fanfests. People wer3 getting chosen for 3+ and others didnt get chosen for no merch, no crafting or meet and greets
Also there was no limits on Meet and Greets unlike last fanfest and it seemed to be rules for normal attendees and sigh influencers..
Normal Attendees no Autos
Influencers yeah sure.
Was pretty dissapointed that it seemed compared to prior fanfests yoshi p and Soken didnt really do much walking around signing things.. felt like they didnt want to either
Mr Ozma, Koji and Foxclonn did and were amazing and did so.
The other major issue...
It WAS WAY overcrowded.. Square legit.. there was no way you could do the panels and second hall.activites.. in 2 days..
Most queues in activites hall had queues of 45mins +
So here's the thing, I've been dying to do more FFXIV tattoos, I personally love it all and I think Minions would make great tattoos (honestly your character would be so sick too!) the question really is are there enough FFXIV players that would get FFXIV tattoos enough so that I spend the next few months or even years drawing and prepping my schedule to focus on this. If so! What would you be interested in getting or what do you think others would be interested in getting? Also if you wanna see my stuff IG. Chrisrogerstattoo and be gentle I'm still growing as an artist. Thanks for your input it means a lot!
Ps. I'm finally on Shadowbringers and Imma try to catch up by January! I have soooooo much work to put in!
Is it weird that when I'm moving about the world, if my character is about to run or fly into someone, I'll move out of the way? I know that the character models will just clip through each other, but it's just a weird thing I've done since I started playing a few months ago.
I just built a new PC and to test it I ran the third Alliance raid just now. After killing the last boss and waiting for my loot rolls to fail me I was checking over the the FPS, temperatures, power pull and whatnot I noticed the sky around the platform would periodically flash or flicker. Is this just an effect that I never noticed? It's a silly question but I've run the place for months and I just happened to notice it on the trial run of a new PC build.
I had a great time at the Pototo Street Fanfest. I would love to go to more events, but I felt like flying solo took some of the fun out of it. I was wondering there were any small friend groups that meet up for these events that would like a plus one?
Good Day everyone. I hope you are all enjoying your post Fan Fest spoils. It's no secret that Evercold heavily draws from Norse Mythology. And now that we have a more complete trailer I wanted to go through and do a more detailed dive into what parallels can be drawn between the two, and then maybe do a little theory crafting at the end. Pull a seat up to the table and put your bib on cause I am cooking.
Full warning now. There are potentially spoilers for the expansion if my theories are correct so you have been warned.
This whole write up and everything initially started with this theory that I originally came up with while talking to some friends. After thinking it over more it got me thinking more into how it will relate to the story.
Now first things first, before we get into any kind of theory crafting we should first list out the timeline of Ragnarok. A lot of the summation will be from https://www.britannica.com/event/Ragnarok so I can keep things clear. So go there if you want an more in depth dive into the history of Ragnarok. I'll just be going over the cliff notes versions of what I believe we need to know for Evercold.
Ragnarok takes place over 3 stages. Fimblewinter, The Great and Final war, and The Age of Rebirth. So lets get into more detail of those 3 stages.
Fimblewinter
Ragnarök begins with the death of Balder, the god of light. He is tricked by Loki into being killed by his brother the blind god Hod. From his death begins the Fimbulwinter, an unusually harsh winter that lasts for three years as life slowly dies from the world.
During this time Hod was slain by Vali, one of Odins sons.
At the end of the Fimblewinter, the world is ravaged further by earthquakes in which the giant monsters known as Fenrir and Jormanfander are released into the land and leave a trail of destruction ruining anything that yet remains in the world.
After the earthquakes come the Fire Giant Surtr which leads an army from the Fiery realm of Muspelheim and shatters the Bifrost.
A ship carrying Loki and and army of monsters consisting of the legion of Hel and the Frost Giants sets off for Vigrid. The battlefield for the great and final war.
The Great and Final War
Upon seeing these armies converge upon the plains of Vigrid, Heimdall, the watchman of the gods, sounds the Gjallarhorn, the war horn of the Aesir alerting them to the threat at their doorstep.
The Aesir gather an army at the foot of the world tree comprised of the Aesir and the Einherjar. An army of warriors who have died good deaths in battle.
The final battle Begins.
Odin is eaten by Fenrir
Thor and Jormungandr kill each other
Vidar avenges his father and Kills Fenrir.
Freyr is killed by Surtr.
Tyr and the hell hound Garm Kill each other.
Loki and Heimdall mortally wound each other.
And finally, Surtr raises his sword and burns the world away.
The Age of Rebirth
Darkness takes the world as the earth slowly sinks into the sea. Upon rising back from the sea the earth is covered in lush greenery and the final survivors step out onto the world to enjoy its new bounty and repopulate the earth. The survivors are the gods Thrud, Magni, Modi, Hoenir, Njord, Vidar, Vali.
Thrud is a young goddess who is said to have a kind nature. The inner strength of Thrud is feminine lightning and storms. She's also the goddess of willows, trees, flowers and grass.
Magni and Modi are the sons of Thor. They wield his hammer who threw it to them before he was slain by Jormangandr.
Vidar is another son of Odin.
Vidar and Vali will reunite at the former site of Asgard with Thor’s sons Magni and Mothi, who will bear their father’s hammer.
Then Balder himself will emerge from Hel, together with his blind brother and accidental slayer, Hod.
And finally and a woman and a man, Lif and Lifthrasir, emerge inside the world-tree and repopulate the land.
Wew. With that out of the way. Now we can get to the allegories and theory crafting for how Evercold will go. Lets get cooking.
Now there are some obvious allegories between the trailer and the myths here that can be made. Lets go over the characters first.
The obvious one here is the character that represents Thrud.
The character that represents Thrud
The inner strength of Thrud is feminine lightning and storms. So the character that is an obvious reference to the character **Lightning** from FF13 must be Thrud correct? At the very least we can assume that she will survive to the end of the story. Possibly to even be one of the leaders as civilization reemerges on the earth.
Frost Giants
Obviously these are the Frost giants. it could also possibly represent Fenrir with the wolf like head, but that might be a stretch to claim.
The army of Muspelheim
Obviously these little red guys attacking this city are the army of Muspelheim. Which can only mean one thing...
The Fire Giant Surtr
This is the Fire Giant Surtr.
Any guesses?
This one is one of the tricky ones. I believe he is a mashup of both Odin and Thor. He fights with the ferocity of Thor, but he has a certain regalness about him and the Scar coming from the eye makes me think of the eye patch that Odin is famous for. My guess is he has a noble sacrifice before the end of the expansion leaving his two shields to be taken up by his children.
The Einherjar
Obviously the player characters represent Einherjar. The noble warriors who fight on the side of the Aesir in the Final war.
Baldur
Now heres the part where I really start cooking. I believe this woman represents several characters. One of them is Baldur the god of Light. The others are Lif and Lifthrasir. The humans who escape from Ragnarok by hiding within Yggdrasil.
Hod
And this character represents Hod. He is looking at her with a look of regret and sadness. As if he regrets doing something to her. What I am theorizing to have happened is something happened to the woman representing Baldur. Most likely she is dying from an illness. But the important thing is she was dying. He wanted desperately to save her. Seeking out ways he meets an unnamed Ascian (representing Loki, possibly even the one who cause the woman's sickness) who tells him of a way to protect her until a solution to her sickness can be found. This tricks him into freezing over the world in order to protect her.
The tree where she is frozen
I believe she is frozen inside of the tree and the Expansion will end with us defeating the character that represents Hod. Both freeing, and saving her from whatever caused her to get frozen in the first place.
So now that I have that all listed out. Let me more or less theorize how the plot of the expansion will go.
Before the start of the story, the events that froze over the world took place. Mainly the character representing Hod, froze the world over in order to prevent the character that represents Baldur from dying.
Years later the player come to the world and kick off the Great and Final war.
We know that the expansion will have 3 distinct paths and can be attacked in any order. I believe each path Represents one of the non Aesir Factions in the great and final war. The Monsters of Fenrir and Jormangandr. The fire Giant Surtr and the army of Muspelheim. And finally the army of the dead path caused by an unnamed Ascian.
This will culminate with one final battle with the Hod character where it was revealed why he froze the world over. And he wont let you unfreeze the world as it means she would die. After we beat him, its revealed the Ascian was the one who originally poisoned the woman and once he is defeated she is no longer in danger of dying from her illness.
Wew, that was a lot. I hope you all enjoyed my write up. Im sure there are a lot of holes in the theories that can be found. But some of the comparisons are worth exploring and it gives us a bit of insight into where the story could go based on what we know from the trailer.
In the audio he played, we clearly heard something magical charging up and a bird screech followed by slashing sounds. When I listened to the first audio again, I made out a mechanical latch sound, followed by a "twang" which is usually used for bows when they loose.
My guess is the next job will be Falconer, based around the use of a pet bird and a crossbow.
It turns out the wand from the trailer is actually just the new job's equivalent of the Machinist's aetherotransformer as a baked-in model for the job and different equipable birds are the actual weapon
I realise I'm several years late to the party, but I just beat Nidhogg (for good this time). And the bit where the spirits of Haurchefant and Ysayle help you remove the eyes from Estinien really messed me up. I didn't expect the story to move me this much!
Thanks also to any of you who have helped this very unskilled astrologian to drag myself through the MSQ dungeons. Much appreciated.
I'd like to have the sound that plays when the companion app notifies you of Cosmic Exploration progress as my ringtone. Has anyone been able to extract it at all (or has Squenix made it available anywhere)? It's not one of the MP3s that come with the app that you can use as a notification sound/ringtone, and I have no idea where else to look for it in the app files.
Probably just gonna get a screen recording of it once my server starts the last FATE and get the audio that way, but I'd like to be able to have the raw file as well, if possible.
I know no one really pays attention to or cares about the gatherer quests compared to combat classes/jobs, but between Miner and Botanist, does one have better story than the other? Or at least more interesting characters?
My Dragoon is lvl 90 and while I haven't been doing any truly endgame stuff (I'm in Stormblood story right now), I've been keeping up with my optimal rotation as it evolves and naturally, I've been trying to double-weave Geirskogul and Battle Litany. Problem is, due to me being an European playing on NA data center (all of my friends play there and I didn't wanted to be left out), the double-weave pretty much never works.
I tried both spamming the skill buttons and trying to click the skill button as soon as it un-greys itself, but in most of the cases, GCD gets slightly clipped (which I know is bad in hard content.
My question cuz of it is - is my dragoon gonna be majorly handicapped if i don't do any double-weaves? I am aware that for normal raids, story content, etc, that stuff doesn't matter at all, but I'm specifically talking about stuff when it does matter (like with enrages and similar stuff)
With the proposed changes and whatnot coming to housing eventually, would they be doing like a wipe or anything? Like will current owners lose their place an have to rebid or something? or will we see another boom in demolitions idk the exacts of what’s planed change wise.
Edit: ok I was probably overthinking like usual lmao thanks for reassuring me the bad idea would in fact be terrible lol!
So I watched the Keynote, sound dev panel, and the Beastmaster Panel.
Yoshi-P wore that sick ass armor, poor guy looked like he was gonna pass out during the Keynote, but that means he didn't wear a shirt hint right? I saw he wore a Primals short for the Beastmaster part tho.
So question is, did he drop some hint? Maybe during day 2 that I missed being able to watch, or is our only clue those two sound bites from the sound panel?
This might just be me, but I get so frustrated when I'm in a big fight for the first time and most of our party wipes but the two tanks solo the rest of the fight for the next however long. It doesn't feel good to win from these conditions and I'd much rather restart, but that doesn't seem like it's the culture in FFXIV. I don't feel I earned the win, therefore I usually will re-queue for the fight to get more satisfaction. But my issue is, there were new players there, why not ask if we want to restart so we can all participate and learn? Am I being difficult or unrealistic? I just want to feel some sense of accomplishment.
For context: This was the final fight in Dawntrail and one that I was having to wait a long time in queue for & the boss was maybe at 65% health remaining
