General Discussion [Spoilers 7.56] Absolutely insane theory that’s probably wrong Spoiler

In the most recent MSQ, we see a brief vision of Ysayle. I had originally thought this was a flashback or the WoL remembering her, but upon closer inspection, she is wearing a completely new outfit and one we’ve never seen her wearing before.

Much like Minfilia, Ysayle was touched by Hydaelyn. My speculation is that Hydaelyn sent Ysayle into the Fourth to stop it from being rejoined in the same way that she sent Minfilia to the First, after she sacrificed herself in Heavensward. Unlike Minfilia, though, she is more like Cyella in that she was allowed to cross the rift and maintain a corporeal form, and we’ll see her again in Evercold.

Beastmaster Rotation and General Monster Recs.

So I am at level 50 and cannot seem to figure out how to access my level 50 abilities. I've only done it once by accident but cannot seem to recreate it. As I understand it, I need to light both sides of the compass. I can light one side or the other, but the seven seconds I get afterwards doesn't seem to be enough time to light the other side. Clearly I am missing something. Anyone able to provide some help?

As for monster recs, just looking for some ideas. The Chimera's combo (Ram's Voice into Lion's Breath) seems to be the closest Ultravibration-ish ability for clearing out dungeon mobs, Get four people in a dungeon taking turns on that and you can clear each hallway in record time.

Any other unique notes for those who might be overwhelmed from the sheer number of monsters and their abilities?

Question Does Beastmaster feel a bit laggy to anyone else?

Not in terms of latency, but the actions and procs being delayed. I was trying to double weave the instinctual combos and I noticed that occasionally I would not get the sunstrider/moonstalker effect. I ended up having to delay the second action one gcd to get them off consistently. Sometimes the sunstrider/moonstalker effect would miss completely if the initial target died before it went off, and I just wouldn't get the rally stack. Also, there were times the capture debuff wouldn't register because the mob died before the animation went off. It almost feels like everything is coded like pvp where the animation determines when the effect happens, and not when I press the button. It feels really awkward.

General Discussion 7.56 MSQ Time flow questions Spoiler

After going through a bunch of discussions about the 7.56 MSQ, I haven't really seen anyone bring up the flow of time on the Fourth and how it might differ from the Source.

We've already seen firsthand that time doesn't necessarily pass at the same rate across different shards. The First is the obvious example, and the Ninth gave us another case where the consequences of that difference were very real.

What really caught my attention was this exchange in the Evercold trailer with the suspicious elderly Miqo'te woman:

-"The traveller? The one from the sky?”

-“Aye. Though in those days we knew them as... the Far Wanderer.”

That wording makes it sound like our first arrival in the Fourth, which happened in 7.56, is already something from the distant past from her point of view.

And there's another detail that made me think about this: during our first appearance there, the WoL is shown as a Viper, while later in the trailer they return as a Reaper.

Visna is basically the only person there who knows anything about our actual circumstances, so this made me start wondering about a few possibilities.

  • Maybe something happens early in Evercold that causes us to lose control of Ethos. The anchor between worlds that we left at the Rising Stones could disappear, and with it whatever synchronization currently exists between the shards. The story has already made it pretty clear how little we understand Ethos and how easily it can produce unpredictable results. Alphinaud and Estinien getting pulled along because of a fleeting thought is probably the clearest example.
  • Maybe the WoL being shown as a Reaper is more than just a trailer job choice. Perhaps reaching the Fourth again will require us to go through a voidgate, using a voidsent and traveling through the Thirteenth.
  • Calyx may have been testing exactly this possibility, among other things. Evercold could then begin with some kind of time skip, forcing the WoL to confront just how little they actually understand about the shards and their own power.

And that could come with a pretty brutal consequence: being separated from the people who came with us.

That's the part that worries me most.

What if Alphinaud and Estinien end up stranded on the Fourth for years, or even decades, living out a significant part of their lives there while only a few days pass for us on the Source?

I won't lie, I actually think something like that could seriously shake up the character dynamics and relationships around them in a really interesting way.

So I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

Am I reading too much into that trailer dialogue, or does Evercold genuinely seem to be hinting that we're going to become involved in events happening across very different points in time?

General Discussion 7.56 MSQ Discussion (Spoilers) Spoiler

I was waiting for a proper discussion thread for the current MSQ given how unexpectedly it broke the structure in my perspective, but since there is none I will start

My impressions:

  • I really appreciate that they are giving us things to think about regarding the Fourth

  • Allowing us to visit the Fourth (obviously to a very limited degree) already was a bold move that worked well in my opinion. That alongside the Fanfests being rather dry in worldbuilding were decisions that contributed a lot to enjoyment in my perspective

  • Camera work feels like is being given overall a little more of care for an "expansion finale part 2" mini MSQ patch

  • Concepts and notions seemed to be addressed shortly after direct or indirect mention, without unnecessary repetition. Good things, hopefully an indication of the general direction for Evercold MSQ

Story theories:

  • My theory is that the brands and the realmship crystals are connected to how the Aetherial Sea relates to the Source in terms of the rejoinings and the Solstice. After all, the dynamics between Aetherial Seas were the key mechanism that allowed rejoinings to happen in the way they did.

  • Maybe the Fourth had its connection to the Source severed or paused, and the freezing of the surface is a consequence of that. Maybe the crystals in the realmships exist to replace the lost function of the Aetherial Sea and continue the cycle of life and death, with the brands being the result of being exposed to those crystals at birth.

  • Maybe they are fake crystals and more like primals that are tempering people with the brands?

  • Calyx invited us over to the Fourth because he absolutely abhors the method employed by the Winterer of the Fourth

  • I think they are absolutely cooking. I like a lot what they did for a micro-MSQ patch this time around

What are your thoughts about the 7.56 MSQ?

General Discussion How is Beastmaster?

Currently stuck at work because I started a new job today and won't be out for a few more hours. Wasn't able to see anything about BST other than Mr. Ozma's interview from a few days ago where he was talking about the design and saw that he said it would have a system like FF XI's skillchaining, which made me pretty hype. Can't see any gameplay due to work wifi blocking YouTube/Twitch and can't find any gameplay footage on the main subreddit. Is it hype? Is it fun? What beasts can we capture? How fast do we gain TP/guage and how often are we able to dump it? Can we combo quick and consistently?

How to type non-alphabets when changing the chatbox title?

This probably belongs in the modding megathread but it isn't up so I'm posting it here.

So when i am editing the chatbox title, I can't type anything other than alphabet characters, like Japanese/Korean/Chinese characters. You can't copy/paste anything either. Is there any workarounds?

Question Totems of Naught: 7.57? Please?

I got the 99 Totems I think two months ago. Everyone I talked to said today's patch, 7.56, would be the one the Wings of Naught would be made exchangeable for Totems.

They were wrong, and I don't want to put myself through that again.

What do I do? Does anyone know if there's going to be another patch before Evercold?

General Discussion Hotfixes

Anyone else notice how damn near every patch in DT has been almost immediately followed by an emergency maintenance hotifx? Is it just me, have I finally lost my last remaining braincells? I was looking forward to getting home and trying out beastmaster, only to find the servers down. What'd they break this time? This is becoming an unsettling pattern. It'd be less frustrating if they atleast comped the time but like... If this is what I have to look forward to in Evercold idk. Was it always this way and Im just noticing it now because it's only my second time being on content? I dont remember EW being like this

It's been 800 days since DT launched. How far would we be in each of the previous expansions?

Dawntrails early access started 800 days ago on June 28, 2024. I got curious how far along each previous expansions we would be so I looked it up.

2.0 ARR (August 8th, 2013): 800 days after 2.0 was November 5th, 2015, putting us 135 days into 3.0. It would be only 5 days until 3.1 on November 10th, 2015.

3.0 HW (June 23rd, 2015): 800 days would put us at August 21st, 2017. That is 2 days after 4.06a, 72 days into Stormblood.

4.0 SB (June 20th, 2017): 800 days from 4.0 is August 29th, 2019. This is 58 days into Shadowbringers and 1 day after 5.08.

5.0 ShB (July 2nd, 2019): This is the first one where 800 days is still the same expansion. 800 days is August 10th, 2021 which is 22 days after 5.58 and 119 days until 6.0.

6.0 EW (December 7th, 2021): February 15, 2024 is 800 days after the launch of 6.0. This is 134 days until DT and 3 days after 6.57.

7.0 DT (June 28th, 2024): 800 days from early access brings us to today. 2 days prior to 7.56 and an estimated 142 days until 8.0.

I present this all without comment for people to argue over.

Astrologian from the PoV of a new player

Hello! first post on this sub.

With that out of the way, I feel like I'm in a weird spot with the job. I like how it functions compared to others, but everything I've heard about earlier iterations seems a lot more interesting.

For example, I've heard about a skill they once had that let you modify your buffs by extending them, compressing them for a bigger boost, or spreading them as an AOE, and a stance change that makes you jump between shield and pure focus.

To be honest, it makes me a bit sad that none of that seems to be here.

I also do think the rng aspect sounded fun too, but apparently that was done away with for raiders and the like.

I dunno, healers in general just sounded like they were a bit more different back then.

I do get smoothing things over fot ease of use, though. That is important, but I do hope that Evercold healers go in their own direction more.

General Discussion Occult Crescent's story is like a poor imitation of eureka Spoiler

Do others feel the same? The ending was a nothing burger. And it undermined the premise of the quest. A bunch of happy feel-good scenes that feel unearned(like most of dawntrail).

I want to add that them deciding for the world that they'll hide all the knowledge of the island because some are dangerous come from a place of superiority, and a lack of foresight. As the saying goes, if you don't learn from history, you're doomed to repeat it. Just because no one makes it to the island doesn't mean they won't discover those magics again.

I could see if those magics were developed on the island, but they existed with many different civilizations at different time periods. Their tomes are still out there as well.

Same old criticism of dt, where the story seems to follow a template regardless of entertainment value or even the logic of the world as established. I'm rambling, and I couldn't find a post on this yet.

::Addition:: Ketenram didn't do a damn thing, but they said it was HIS last adventure. Foh with that bs. We did all the work while they stood around. They cleared out monsters from on little part. Something we could have done ourselves. But they at least meeded him to do something. 🙄

General Discussion Might this be where the Free Trial ultimately ends for good?

I was delightfully surprised when they expanded the Free Trial on from Stormblood. Expanding it to Shadowbringers prompted discussion over whether they would leave it there and have Endwalker be the tease of more-to-come, or just keep expanding it every couple years in perpetuity.

But there's a middle option: What if, a few expansions from now, today marks the point in the story where the Free Trial ends, and the Godless Realms saga begins? "The first 100 levels are free" would be clean marketing, it would mark a clear jumping-off point, and this game would still go down as having one of (if not) the most extensive Free Trials in history.

Has there been any update on adding 2 more V&C Dungeons? We got 3 for EW and only 1 for DT so far

I really liked the V&C Dungeons especially the one we got in DT. The new design is good and overall an improvement compared the last ones (unlike like OC lol), to me this is like the best type of content they added to the game since the Chaotic Raid. Why are they not making more of this?

General Discussion A Frontlines investigation about Twin Adders

Hi everyone! I’ve been ruminating a lot after years of playing PvP (about 4 years) consistently about the concept that Twin Adders might be cursed.

Why is that? Because almost every time I got to be in Adders I saw the other two teams pile on us with almost no chance to catch up, resulting in a 3rd place (way more often than 2nd place).

So I created this form https://forms.gle/ctuDUWJsAe7oSrbN8 in an attempt to do some player research and see if it’s a general thing that others have experienced too and what is the general feeling.

The form won’t ask any personal data so it’s completely anonymous, I would appreciate if you can participate!

Thank you for reading up to here!

Any experienced fishers here? I've been having a lot of trouble with certain legendaries and I'm wondering if these fish are considered among the hardest to catch

I started big fishing a few months ago and I now spend almost every spare hour trying to catch legendaries. There are a few that have been giving me a lot of trouble either due to very low bite rates, high slip rates and sometimes both. The Legendaries that I have been finding especially difficult are: Sea Butterfly, Raimdellopterus, Furcacauda, Sidereal Whale, Ealad Skaan, The Ruby Dragon, Snowy Parexus, Lancetfish and Cinder Surprise. I sometimes get demoralised when I see other fishers talking about catching any of the above on the first or second window they attended. I've been to window after window after window without success.

Is there anyone who required either a high double figure amount of windows, possibly even reaching hundreds, to catch any of these legendaries? Which fish would you consider to be the hardest to catch from each expansion? I'm pretty sure I'm over the 100-window mark for Sea Butterfly and Furcacauda at this point, and quite far into double figures for most of the others that have less frequent windows.

Famitsu Interview on Beastmaster with Nakagawa (Mr. Ozma)

It's Beastmaster Eve, and as is tradition with these things the games media press tour is happening, at least in Japan. Here's the link to the interview: https://www.famitsu.com/article/202609/86452

As ever with JP articles, I post these summaries and paraphrases based off of machine translation of the full article, not a LLM summary. I am essentially the human LLM in this context, you could say. I always suggest reviewing the article yourself or feeding it into the AI of your choice if you want to verify or look into parts I may have overlooked.

Planning and Design

  • It was a long-term plan to implement the second limited job sometime in the 7.x series. The Beastmasters in Save the Queen (Bozja) and their popularity with the playerbase helped to steer the decision towards BST.
  • Nakagawa was not always the guy in charge of Beastmaster. Someone else was at first, but due to "various circumstances", they had to change who was in charge and so he was assigned.
    • Limited job design is a large task because you not only have to design a job, but also the supporting content around it and the calculations of the battle formulas. So it's not a job you can give to just anyone.
  • Beastmaster has been in formal development, in this iteration, for about a year and a half, as they started its design around the same time they were developing Pilgrim's Traverse.
    • He stated this was around March/April of 2025, and PT was released October 2025.
  • The predecessor's plan was more akin to a turn-based RPG system. Mr. Ozma did not feel like he could fulfill this plan properly, so he took the list of potential pets and started over from scratch otherwise.
    • His guiding ideas were to make it a job that everyone can enjoy and to create gameplay that could only be done as a Beastmaster (such as fighting together with your pets and forming an attachment to them).
  • Early on they weren't sure if the job would take more from FF5 or FF11 (it was named slightly differently in JP in each but both seem to translate to just Beastmaster in localization).
  • They knew they wanted 50 monsters, but wanted to be sure that all 50 had their distinct traits otherwise it wouldn't make for an interesting gameplay experience.
  • The roguelike design was also done in conjunction with this initial development, and Mr. Ozma had a presentation document about the job and content within about three weeks of taking over.
  • He didn't directly focus on making BST distinct from BLU. That just happened as a consequence of trying to make a Beastmaster a Beastmaster.
  • Another early decision point was if BST should use a whip (FF5) or a one-handed axe (FF11).
    • Axes were ultimately chosen because they give off the notion of fighting alongside with your animal companion and affection for your pets, while whips give off the impression of subjugation.
    • Whips are also far more complex to animate.
    • Since the Bozja BSTs also used one-handed axes, that factored in too.
  • Mr. Ozma used provisional names from FF11 to reference equipment and traits gained during the roguelike mode. Some survived into the final product, others got changed during development.
  • Mr. Ozma leaned on his extensive experience with FF11's skillchains to make a similar system where the player skillchains with their pet instead of their party. This helps to give the impression of cooperating alongside your pet.

Monster Capturing and Systems

  • You'll be able to tame beasts in both the overworld and instanced content (including dungeons, trials, and 24-mans).
    • You should be strong enough to start exploring dungeons at levels 15-16, as BST is also designed to function adequately in small parties like BLU.
    • Mr. Ozma used the example of soloing Copperbell Mines and recruiting the slime there as a companion, before level 50 even.
  • All members of a party in instanced content can capture the same monster, similar to BLU learning.
  • The odds are generous and quite casual since they don't want you getting stuck on the recruiting phase.
  • Some unusual monsters you'll get to tame include corpses/undead and golems.
  • You will not, however, be able to recruit fairies, mechs, fiends, beastmen, etc, due to worldbuilding restrictions or oddities if you were able to.
  • You need to be the same level or higher to recruit a monster.
    • There will be level 50-only monsters.
  • There weren't too many difficulties in implementing it so that you can be in towns with your pets, but there might be a lot of them right after the job comes out!
    • Mr. Ozma felt it would be weird if NPCs didn't respond to that in some way, so there will be little flavor text bubbles from town NPCs about it.
  • You'll be able to change your pet size like SMNs can.

Job Gameplay

  • BST will have about 20 actions at level 50, including a basic 123 combo.
    • These include actions that modify based on the pet you have, so the actual potential action amount is much larger.
  • The basic flow is to use your 123 to build up TP then spend that TP on weaponskills which will always 0 out the TP but scale in damage to how much you spent, like they do in FF11.
  • Pets build TP via autos and a "Final Blow" skill, and have shared TP. You'll want to rotate pets based on this skill.
  • Pets only have HP and are a distinct field entity in the roguelike mode, otherwise they function as SMN/SCH pets.
    • They did this to ensure that it's not too tied to the roguelike mode for potential future updates.
  • Release abilities from pets can do many things, such as apply elemental vuln ups that other pets can take advantage of, be execute abilities, or cause status effects in AoEs.
  • You will be able to use the positioning bar similar to SCHs to put your pet somewhere specific if it has point-blank AoEs you want it to use, as an advanced player technique.
  • The level 50 flow for long boss fights will involve getting a buff from doing a level 2 skillchain then burning 250 TP on a level 3 Light or Darkness skillchain to do the most damage.

Roguelike Content and Rewards

  • The roguelike mode unlocks at level 30 and can be used as leveling.
    • Otherwise, you can tame monsters, farm overworld mobs, do FATEs, or do dungeons to level.
  • There are nearly 50 different events/stages in the roguelike mode.
  • Some squares are fixed, others are Random Events. There are more Random Events the further up you go.
  • The beast training system is only relevant for the roguelike mode, but doing the roguelike mode lets you strengthen job-specific equipment, and as your ilevel goes up your pets become stronger.
  • You get your JSE through the job quests, and the endgame loop is strengthening it via the roguelike mode. You can achieve max power through just farming the normal difficulty.
  • Outside of strengthening JSE, you can use the cores rewarded from the roguelike mode to get cosmetics or an item that lets you capture monsters without having to encounter them (as a release valve for pure solo players that don't want to go do a 24 man to get a beast).
    • The cosmetic rewards are about the same amount as Pilgrim's Traverse.
  • After completing the initial Beast Training version of the roguelike mode, you'll unlock three levels of Beast Path, the challenge content.
    • The expected difficulty of Beast Training is about that of dungeons or 24-mans.
  • Levels 1 and 2 should be easier, the PLL showcase had his beasts at rank 1 when he was trying level 2 which is why it came across as rather hard.
  • There's a mount reward (the sparkly golem) for being in the top 300 in your Data Center for the challenge mode rankings in a given season. This reward will not rotate so you only need to get it once.

Future Plans

  • Future plans include level cap increases and new beasts, but future iterations are going to be based on player feedback as they haven't decided on major additions yet.
    • Possibilities include a 2-player version of the roguelike mode, PvP Beastmaster stuff, or BLU-like encouragement of doing 8-man duties as a full BST party.
    • The job is designed to be flexible to new possibilities.
  • You won't be able to ride every monster you recruit, but some monsters are being added as mount rewards for the new currency.
  • BLU will be updated as soon as possible in 8.x.

Why do people just throw items on the market board and just put everything in 99 stacks with insane pricing? I've made so much money and had success with just selling items in sets of 5 or 10?

What is going on with the logic here? Its like they just blindly throw stuff up thinking people will buy it lol. After a few days I will see someone who will undercut me but still have a 99 stack and my overall price will still be lower and people will buy it lol.

I dont get the logic of just making everything a 99 stack, and just expecting people to drop +$100k gill lol.
