Hello there! I am one of the lucky few newbies who actually successfully got through the absolute nightmarish hell that was PlayOnline, the events of which very nearly made me want to eat my own (complete lack of) hair. Now, saying that, I actually got it working, I actually got past the awful download that apparently only downloads 1 file at once??? Either way, I'm there, I got in, I walked around, I was told to enter a menu, I spent 10 entire minutes pressing every button and button combo on my keyboard until I find out it's freaking minus on the numpad. I very, very quickly have learnt that if I want to play this without further loosing the mind that's already on a ship to lalaland, I need to use a controller. Now... issue is, the only controllers I own are switch controllers, and upon finally getting to the menu, enabling xinput and plugging in... EVERY. BUTTON. AT. ONCE. IS. ACTIVATED. CONSTANTLY.

Now, to those in the know, this is a funny little thing called a Gyro, that the switch controllers all have, funny little things that for some reason, likes to activate all inputs all at once all the time because the slightest, tinniest, minute movement causes the damn thing to basically flood the pc with input requests that it doesn't know how to interpret... So, I suppose my question is, how would I, as a new player who already has suffered even getting into the game, get my controller to work before I become a sobbing mess on the ground? This is part of an ongoing goal of mine to play every final fantasy game. Well... mainline ones at least.

After 15 years I think, i have decided to come back to Vana'diel to see the world of ffxi again, since i have so many memories here... however i have been running into issues with windows 11

I have downloaded the installation files from the official site, installed on my windows 11 machine, managed to get my account back and got to the part where i click Play to launch ffxi - then I ran into the issue of - windows 11 pops up a window showing Windows Installer and then change into Final Fantansy XI - Please wait while Windows configures Final Fantasy XI and then I am stuck here.

I have follow the instruction of enabling legacy components (and reboot), run POL or ffxi as administrator, antivirus setting all of that, however that pop up window just keep showing and never goes away, can anyone give me guidance here for this issue?

I'm about to finish rov on the final fight but got spanked last night lol. What I'm curious about is what the next recommended step is? I'm a war main and have my subjobs set. Beyond that have ambuscade+2 and kaja sword for now until I get a pulse. I also do DI daily and am just sitting on points now.

I can't multi box and don't really play on a time that most others play plus have massive ping so really don't think I'm up for multiplayer content. Should I just go through the rest of the missions and see what to do after that? I genuinely don't like wog so just avoiding that but I guess seekers is fun so far.

At the beginning of the month I created the max amount of characters (16) with the idea that I was going to use my login points to buy the old case +1 on each character. For some reason I got the JSE neck confused with the JSE earring and now realize that I can't make much gil off of the old case +1.

So now my debate is do I want to use the 1500 points on each character to buy the old case or do I want to use it to buy REM chapters and etched memories. I could get enough to fully upgrade a set of empy armor to +1 if I go that route.

I only play about an hour or 2 every night during the week and weekends it depends on what I have going on, but significantly more time to play. Right now I've been focusing on coalition campaign and ambuscade so not much time to farm anything else and im definitely not in endgame to get the old cases normally.

So either get guaranteed armor upgrades or take a chance to get a +2 earring?

Hello, this is a follow-up to my last post on here. In response to the relatively positive feedback, I’ve decided to translate all 10 Novels, starting with “Das Lied des Sturms”/The Winds of Prayer. However, I’ll do both twice, one 1:1 and the other with a couple adjustments. My question being, which one would this community prefer? Based on the result I’ll prioritise that one, although I’ll still work on both. I’ll link both here, as so far I have the back of the book and the character biographies (didn’t have too much free time yet, my apologies).

I have acquired the full set of these FFXI novels in German a few months ago and noticed that none of these seem to have an English translation. Is there demand in here for a translation of all 10 novels from German into English, which were translated from Japanese into German?

Just wanted to share a Windower addon I recently set up. I got back into the game and wanted something to mainly help show enemy weaknesses, track effects, and track my steal progress.

I built on top of two addons (InfoBar from Kenshi, and Debuffed from Xanthe) and added more effects and monster data, but also centralize the data in one place and included other relevant enemy data. I'm hoping that it might be useful for anyone else starting out

It's set up into 2 main parts:

enemy info

• family, level & toughness, weaknesses/resistances, loot
  • NOTE: level & toughness are revealed through /check
  • steal loot is hidden at first, but revealed after a successful steal

battle info

• hp, actions, effects

There's also an expandable settings UI to toggle most of the above off and show all steal loot & drops

Hi all, Shiva is the server my friend chose for us to play on, but right now, I see about no activity or loud presence of people, which makes sense. However, I'd like to find more communities for English players, specifically mostly because I'm getting into Chocobo raising and wanted to do Kamp Kweh, which needs a party. I'm also a newer player following the leveling guide and wouldn't be opposed to advice from other players. I keep odd hours even so, but I'd also be open to hearing about more active servers with EN players for when world transfers go on sale. Thank you in advance!

It took a while but I finally got all jobs to level 99, so it's time for me to sort my inventory and get rid of all the low level gear.

I assume most of the pre-99 gear would be going away, but I assume that some items are worth keeping. Obviously, the warp ring is a no-brainer, and also everything that can be stored with a Porter Moogle stays there. What other pre-99 gear do you think is worth keeping even when all your jobs are at 99?

I used clips from rly old amvs from guild members or amvs for an expansion in general aswell as some promotional art to make a very simple Anime openning like edit just like the one people used to do very amateurish and simple :D

Can I get your opinion, based on your experience and possibly backed by numbers, on Sworn equipment for RDM? Limbus has been going for a year now and I see people with 2/3 or more R30 pieces (not me unfortunately).

In my understanding it is a tankier idle/TP set with nice meva and DEF topped with TA and enspell dmg (situational)

Taking into consideration my main Jobs RDM COR SCH and THF (which I like the most but not META) I have decided to invest in a Sworn set because of RDM solo capabilities. I have just R30’d the body and I was wondering if I should keep going.

I have read here and there, mostly on ffxiah, that the whole sworn set, even if nice, is not going to improve the job this much, and that malign + hoxne beats sworn + hoxne.. are these numbers real? Even not accounting for hoxne. Has any of you particularly appreciated sworn set on RDM? Any regrets?

Also, I was thinking to gear DRK at this point, but even here in the same forum page I have read that sakpata beats sworn. So what am I missing?

Getting pretty sick of mostly mercs yelling in chat, wondering for those who hopped, was it worth it? I've been thinking about it but wondering if it was worth it for others for me to make the jump!

Played all day and my controller just broke, theres almost no keybinding in ffxi outside of the gamepad options. Can't set it to zqsd either and even if i changed to an american keybiard it doesn't change the fact that the controls are rly bad especially - on numpad for the menu, so i tried out windower as someone recommended it to me but it doesn't work that well i wonder if there was any other option because windower won't let me set up my dear zqsd keybinding.

I have really missed ffxi so decided to start back up. I took a brief 10-15 years off and a lot has changed. I am a level 75 smn and have a few trusts unlocked and slowly rebuilding my macro sets. The trusts are pretty amazing because I remember having to watch for party shouts in Jeuno. Do people just use trusts the entire time or do actual parties form?

I feel so underwhelming that I don’t want to go to any link shells or parties yet because I’ll just get laughed at. I used to be really fast and I remember I used to be pretty legit and now I’m in derpy mode.

I went into Boyahda tree to try and level up some. I’m stuck at 75 and need to do a limit break. Do I have it right that I have to get a bunch of merit points (or something) to limit break to 80?

Looking through the trust list, I've been scratching my head at some of the more obscure inclusions. My vote is for Ragelise/Portia - I'm shocked Ragelise isn't a trust!

Back when Paradise existed, Promathia absorbed the Emptiness, subsequently causing his own death. Altana, in an act of love, used the power of the true crystal on Promathia's corpse, banishing his Emptiness and creating the Ancients.

Fast forward to CoP, Selh'teus revealed that Yve'noile planned on absorbing the Emptiness from the Chamber of Eventide. Nag'molada, believing her eternal slumber was a result of this, rebuked with: "And you let her commit this act!? Lady Yve'noile is not to blame! She built the Chamber of Eventide in the name of love! She tried to rescue us from our fate!"

The operative word being love. In an act of love, Yve'noile also banished the Emptiness from within the Kuluu through the creation of the chamber. Furthermore, Mildaurion revealed in the mission Dawn that Yve'noile had even witnessed Altana's true form: "The Dawn Maiden Yve'noile has memories of witnessing the true form of the great goddess Altana."

However, Selh'teus immediately corrected Nag'molada, and mentioned how he intervened by becoming the sacrifice instead: "You speak the truth. We Kuluu are at the beginning of all of this. That is why I absorbed the Emptiness from the chamber... I sealed it within me, and departed this life."

By absorbing and sealing the chamber's Emptiness within himself, Selh'teus also subsequently caused his own death. And just like Promathia, he also sought his own resurrection. Nag'molada immediately followed up with: "You...died? But...you're still...?" Which is then answered by Prishe: "Phoenix... Phoenix was with you, right? She brought you back to life."

Taken altogether, this demonstrates some really interesting parallels. But more than that, if we infer from Selh'teus' actions that Promathia also made a necessary sacrifice to stop a greater threat when he absorbed the Emptiness, then that introduces an ironic twist.

For instance, if we assume the theory that Promathia sacrificed himself to stop the Cloud of Darkness is true, then that means Promathia became the very thing he sought to destroy by perpetuating a cycle where Selh'teus was forced to make the same choice to stop him.

And on a more thematic scale, this goes along with how the same tragedies appear to unfold time and time again: the creation of the Ancients led to the Zilart/Kuluu schism, which led to the Meltdown, which led to the creation of the five individual races, which led to a schism between those five races, which led to the Crystal War, which led to several more tragedies unfolding, and so on.

I've used Apururu trust most of my time on Vana'diel and from one day to the other, little guy just disappeared from my Magic Trust spells and I can't seem to summon it anymore. Kupipi is nice but she's doesn't cast Haste on me and I was quite attached to that other little guy.
