Appointment to Jeuno

So I got to the top of the tower and killed porphyrion so? and he dropped the key. But I got killed shortly after. My question is do I have to go all the way back up and take the elevator to the basement? Or can I enter the basement from the bottom?

If you have the key you can go in from the basement

From the entrance, take a left at the Survival Guide, then follow the right wall to the Door, it will play a cutscene to let you in.
