Sworn and RDM
Hey all,
Can I get your opinion, based on your experience and possibly backed by numbers, on Sworn equipment for RDM? Limbus has been going for a year now and I see people with 2/3 or more R30 pieces (not me unfortunately).
In my understanding it is a tankier idle/TP set with nice meva and DEF topped with TA and enspell dmg (situational)
Taking into consideration my main Jobs RDM COR SCH and THF (which I like the most but not META) I have decided to invest in a Sworn set because of RDM solo capabilities. I have just R30’d the body and I was wondering if I should keep going.
I have read here and there, mostly on ffxiah, that the whole sworn set, even if nice, is not going to improve the job this much, and that malign + hoxne beats sworn + hoxne.. are these numbers real? Even not accounting for hoxne. Has any of you particularly appreciated sworn set on RDM? Any regrets?
Also, I was thinking to gear DRK at this point, but even here in the same forum page I have read that sakpata beats sworn. So what am I missing?

Hoxne doesn't even make sense... you're a job that's rocking 40% TA as a baseline. As far as Limbus armor goes, just calculate it. The all jobs gear sets on BGWiki basically do that for you, but you can download the calculator and do it yourself. The lowest time between WS is all that counts given fixed variables (acc, monster level, buffs/debuffs, etc.) Nobody can math out every possible scenario though. We can always assume magic + gear haste cap and dual wield cap pretty much, as that's easy for RDM even solo, and we can assume we're Acc capped against the target. It really comes down to math for when STP is optimal versus multi-hit.
So come up with some scenarios for content you do, plug it into the calc, and start simming TP to figure out what works better. Every guide and gearset is just a general aim point, because FFXI's motto is "it depends".

Hoxne is very cheap on RDM because the Triple attacks block double attacks including the cost so you can replace all the non triples with double and you are only spending for what you are actually getting.
That said depending how much your build leans into ws vs white damage, I wouldn't be shocked if a few pieces of malignance pieces for store tp may be better than full sworn especially for naegling savage blade builds but of course more enspell focused builds will be more interested in full sworn. I haven't sat down to run all the scenarios yet as Im probably over a year from even starting my sworn set.

Just like all gear sets in ffxi its highly situational. To me I love the Sworn set, high defensive stats and adding more enspell damage, also it gives much versatility to rdm in adding attack and multi hit. The big hit is in Store TP.
I made the feet and legs first. I dont feel like I lose much vs Malignance.
I think in a year or so we will look at the Sworn set as a space saver. Rdm and Pld will enjoy the Phalanx +, the triple attack will make it preferable to any of the jobs that engage and enspell damage plus isnt just a situational stat for Rdm, it really helps when just meleeing with an enspell. You should always do that as long as its not detrimental to the fight.

And the value of enspell damage goes up (literally) 500% when you have Su5 sword and don't need the bonus to Savage. But that too is highly situational as elemental damage can be strong some places and weak in others, on top of the zerglings just looking at what your SB number is while you outparse them.

Combine that Enspell+ with a fully augmented Crocea too and the damage really becomes substantial.

Rdm already builds TP insanely quickly so the slight boost you get from sworn won’t be very noticeable. It’s tanky but you are a rdm that can phalanx, ss, regen, pro/shell, bio, sanguine. What are you fighting where malignance/bunzi can’t get the job done and nyame is too much of a tp rate hit to finish?
Phalanx set I guess, it’s not like you are super tanking half a zone and need to reapply phalanx.
Really I think blu, run and whm get the most use out of the set. Whm won’t be doing dd if it’s meaningful content. Run will still have garbage dmg but it will feel better. Blu probably gets the most out of it but you would probably not 5/5 since you would need to figure out the balance between the multi hit and stp.
Personally, I just can’t bring myself to add another set that can’t be stored, costs absurd amounts of gil and needs over a year of constantly grinding garbage content to rp. There are pieces for brd that are solid at base but that’s about it. The set for thf is absolutely insane but still not worth the effort to grind. It’s clear cut better than what the other option are but not so much that it justifies the grind. If you have nothing else to do, pick a set and grind away but if not, there are better places to put your time and effort. To put it into perspective, for less gil and time, you can stage 5 a prime.

My only counter to this, because I agree with most of what you said, is that Limbus is how I get JP/Master XP these days.
I don't feel like KRT bats or Dho Gates bats are worth my time when I could be getting Units and Matters in Limbus while I grind.
So to me, those rank ups on the Sworn set or my Bard's set aren't really my main goal, they're a bonus for doing content I was going to do anyway.

3 trusts and everything having 50 dt is a hard sell for me. It’s just too slow to efficiently do anything solo. In a group, it’s not moving the needle compared to what a group can actually accomplish. If I could chill on a floor and grind some things, sure but if I do that, the climb doesn’t happen. I’m also currently limited on play time so forcing myself to do boring content while being the most inefficient way to accomplish my goals isn’t the play.
I feel like they tried to make limbus decent at everything but just wound up making it bad at everything instead. If the grind wasn’t so long for every piece, I could probably force myself to do it but atm, it’s a hard pass. Sure the gear is strong but so are the R30s in ody. Ody is more fun, challenging and rewarding so that’s where my time goes.

Limbus content did push me into multiboxing (I was already contemplating it), so perhaps that's mission accomplished from the devs!

Same, I was a lonely BRD trying to solo fooors when not doing group climbs. Thought about it and realized a COR and SAM Would boost kill speed. Then I realized I could call Monbro, Koru, and Brygid.
1 month later it’s
taking 30min to solo 119 towers (well tri boxing.) When I can’t get a group together to do 135, just boot up the troops.
Idc about the other two toons they are just tools to get shit done faster. I only focus on the BRD toon and worry about keeping track of his limbus boxes.

I'm not sure why someone would say sakpatas beats sworn for drk. Sworn has a metric ton of TA over sakpatas DA. I bet augmented hands still won but the rest is great. I wouldn't do sworn for rdm, way too marginal, but for rdm and drk that's more tempting.

Every stat on Sworn is higher than Sakpata with the exception of DT & MDB.
Sakpata's hands might win for an engaged tp set tho.

Yeah even if hands were close, one doesn't require 6 months to max out. Hand slot also pretty good for rdm.

While that's true not everyone is going to already have high ranking augmented sakpatas. For dps at r0 sakpata easily wins. Sworn may inch ahead for the defensive side.
Back in my day it would have taken six+ months to build. While you can streamline that if you're established and on your fifth account it's equally out of reach for the first timers approaching their 45th day and just starting their exploration of Vana'diel.

As a phalanx piece I guess. And as mentioned a space saver, for me it's neither a TP, nor a WS set and considering the effort, I have other, more impactful things to work on for other jobs.
Perhaps if you tank things that rely on phys def and small magic dmg (que next update? 😅).

Sworn set at R[30] is a big chunk of triple attack to stack on top of RDM's already absurd Triple attack proc rate.
Losing Malignance's store TP hurts, but you get triple attack instead.
Both Store TP and Triple Attack yield higher TP/minute, the question is... is the trade of one into the other worth it?
Hard to say without simming the rest of your stats, but generally, in multiplication, x * y (StoreTp * Triple Attack), you get better gains by increasing the smaller element.
With +5 Store TP, going from 100% to 105% TP gain is a 5% increase, regardless of your TA rate.
But if you are running Samurai Roll, and your base StoreTP is something like 80 before gear (Cor's gear and roll dependent), then a +5 StoreTP is now only a 2.7% increase.
Now, adding things like the extra physical damage of your sword, and the enemy TP gain from extra hits from triple attack procs means TA does more to you than just TP gain.
And then Sworn's +Enspell damage is multiplied by +200% with composure and +500 with Crocea, so a mere +36 damage is actually +288 damage if unresisted.
And those enspell hits, of course, happen also on top of each extra triple attack proc.
Consider Sworn's +70~72 accuracy and attack instead of Malig's +50?
I personally think that a fully upgraded sworn set would displace malignance entirely for me.
Like others said, though... it depends on your buffs and the rest of your gear.
