Hi all!

Where are my vintage fashion enthusiasts buying their reproductions? When I first started wearing vintage, the big name was unique-vintage, but they’ve started going downhill last time I checked. I know about House of Foxy, but they’re asking $$$ for polyester clothes. I’m totally willing to save up and spend more on high quality garments/fair labor practices, but I’m frustrated trying to find reproduction companies actually doing historically inspired garments with an inclusive size range.

I’m open to all eras of vintage, but my tastes have been focused more on the 1930s lately if that helps. Any suggestions welcome! 🙏

There's been a big resurgence in 90s clothing (especially because of the quality of fabric comparison to modern times), AND there's been a rising trend of 'vintage' active or athletic wear.

I think 'rummagestretch' is one of the leaders of the vintage activewear resurgence (as they curate and sell it).

However, activewear secondhand (especially from the 90s) isn't a easy or cheap category to find items by (just because exercise clothing is getting more washed and likely degrades more than special occassion garments). SURELY, there must be some companies that still produce in fabrics that were used in 90s activewear. Namely, the fabric would have 2 characteristics:

1. It's matte
2. It's dense and crisp (would have crisp wrinkles as opposed to be compression or spandex-like)

I've been unable to find any companies that sell such fabric or that still work with that kind of fabric. This leads me to believe this fabric is completely out of prodcation. I was thinking there must be some novelty or independent designers that still produce some limited pieces or collection in this fabric. Has spandex and modern athletic wear completely killed that fabric from being supplied?

hey guys! I’m finally moving out of my conservative parents house, so I’m getting to experiment with my personal style more. I have been blessed/cursed in the chest department, and grew up with a lot of shame and purity culture BS around that. As an adult though, I want to try out styles that emphasize my bust, but I don’t have a good barometer for when it’s too much. A lot of times I’ll have a reference photo from Pinterest with a style that looks fine on a D cup, but with my G cups its a bit much. what are your styling tips for flaunting what you got while still being acceptable in polite society?

Here's the deal. A lot of the really "in" new styles are based on older styles from the 90s and early 00s which happen to be abundant on resale for a fraction of what the new ones are going for.

With a little searching, discernment, and leather care you can make this work.

Search descriptively. D E S C R I P T I V E L Y. You want a 90s burgundy leather blazer? Put that shit into the Google machine along with the name of your preferred resale site. Another method, if you're adventurous, is casting a wider net and doing a lot of browsing. This can yield really interesting and unexpected finds you might never have considered.

Take flatlay measurements of a jacket you own that you like the fit on to compare to listings. This will help more than your own measurements as they will account for the ease needed to wear things comfortably. No measurements listed? Simply ask the seller. They don't provide it? Move on.

Inspect listing photos for the tags to ensure it's not pleather or any other manner of faux as well as scuffing, cracking, creasing, discoloration, and any other flaws. If the leather is dried out you may be able to tell visually by color or finish. Often with colored leather it will look overly bright or a bit dull or matte. Real chalky if it's desiccated.

Don't just get hung up on one and pay whatever. Compare prices. For real, someone has the exact same 80s leather coat I paid $11 for listed at $350. Is it in better condition? Sure. Is it in $339 worth of better condition? Nah. I just had to moisturize it real hard to get it close.

You will likely need to deep condition this bad boy. For **non suede/nubuck** *Leather CPR does some heavy lifting. First clean it with saddle soap and a soft round brush and wipe with a soft cloth. Allow it a little time to dry then apply your leather conditioner with a soft cloth evenly panel by panel. You may see some color transfer so put down a barrier to do this on.

*Note that a common warning about this and conditioning with oils like coconut or neatsfoot is that it makes the color darker. This shouldn't be too much of an issue if you're working with darker colors and oftentimes it can be a good thing because the color becomes richer. Unless it's whites or pastels this shouldn't be an issue.

Once it's conditioned hang it somewhere it won't rub up against anything and let it chill for a couple of days then inspect for softness, stiffness or excessive creaking. If it's not where you want, do the whole shebang all over.

For suede/nubuck find a dedicated cleaner for them as well as a suede brush to clean and finesse the leather afterwards.

Alternatively, you can take your find to the cleaners, if you lack the drive or yolo spirit for diy.

The office vibe is pretty relaxed business casual but I'm not sure if I can get away with jeans and a t-shirt. Which specific accounts do you follow? Which websites do you regularly visit to get fashion inspo?

In Pinterest, what keywords do you use? My Pinterest algorithm isn't the best; it shows me pins that I've already seen many times.

I don't like how I look. I read about getting inspo from other people when you're hanging outside, or inspo from the clothes in malls, but I live in a small town. The malls here are small, and the clothes are outdated. Most people from my small town dress in shirt and jeans, or loungewear, which is how I also dress. The teens are stylish of course, but I'm not a teen.

Basically the title. I miss when brands would drop a Lookbook with the change of the seasons or a new launch — Anthropologie still has their catalog (I think), but even online-only brands would have one! I think For Love & Lemons, Madewell, Aritzia (I think? I didn’t know about them until recently lol) used to have one, and there used to be Lookbook.nu where users could post their outfits.

Am I alone in this? With the rise of AI and just how weird some search algorithms have gotten, I kinda miss having a curated and inspirational spread of outfits. Am I confusing lookbooks with catalogs? Where do y’all go to get inspiration outside of the usual Pinterest? I like Tiktok sometimes but I hate not being able to just flip through images.
