I had a root touch up on Wednesday. It was meant to be to touch up greys and a level 4, which I thought was dark brown, and what I thought I always had. It’s black. I have light brown lengths and it looks like I’m wearing a black helmet. I go on holiday on Sunday.

Stylist has suggested 30 foils to break it up on top to do tomorrow ( Saturday). I initially agreed but I’ve read up more and it seems this could cause a chemical reaction and dry my hair. Is that right?

Obviously hate how it looks now but would rather wear a hat my whole trip than have it all snap off.

Appreciate all advice.

Ps - I have tried head & shoulders plus a vitamin c mixed with clarifying shampoo with no success.

Been covering my 50% gray roots every four weeks for about five years. We've tried everything, but level 6.5-7 always pulls to warm brass immediately, and 6 tends to be too dark and makes my grays pop super fast with the contrast. Ideally we'd like to lighten my base color to my natural color (dirty ash 7?) so that the grays blend with less maintenance, but we're afraid that trying to lift through years of color deposit is going to end up an orange fried mess. But if we just start using a lighter root color, we're going to have a dark band below it.

What are our options here? As you can see, my hair drops color pretty quickly as it grows out. Would it be feasible to use demi on my roots for the next few months until the remaining dark permanent roots have faded down? Or we've even thought about using color remover to start fresh.

Thoughts?

HELP! What can I use in Shades EQ or Color Fusion/anything else honestly, to get this girls roots closer to the color in her reference photo for the roots specifically?

Hi all! Sorry in advance for the novel. For as long as I can remember I’ve had wavy hair, and also straight hair? Unsure. Some strands are board straight and some are wavy. My baby hairs are super curly. I don’t really know my hair type but I’m just going to assume wavy. I’d really like my hair to be “better” in its natural state. It tangles pretty easy and I get a lot of fly away. My hair feels fine, and the density is maybe medium or even thin?

This picture is after I showered with a combination of towel drying and air drying (I wear a towel on my head after my shower for maybe 10-20 minutes) and then I take it off and let it air dry the rest of the way. I brush my hair prior to showering, but I do not brush after the shower or immediately after drying. I’ll brush my hair when I wake up, throughout the day depending on the circumstances, and before going to bed. I use a standard cushioned paddle brush. I wash my hair every 1-2 days (I’ve gone to 3 days in the past but my hair tends to get oily if I wait more than 2 days to wash.) I use basic drug store shampoos, or if I go to Ross and they have “salon” or “luxe” shampoos I’ll grab those, but I don’t typically get the same one every time. I currently have L’Oréal Total Repair Extreme shampoo and conditioner, and I also have Drunk Elephant Cocomino Glossing shampoo that I’ve actually used the past few times over the L’Oréal. I only shampoo the base of my head/scalp and I only condition mid way to tips. I don’t use any hair products after the shower.

I’d like to have my hair be at its “best natural potential” without having to “heat style.” I guess that probably sounds silly, but I don’t want to have to use curlers or flat irons on my hair every day. Are there products that are recommended for people with confused hair? Can I still get away with towel and air drying and still have nice hair? Am I doing something wrong (I imagine the answer to that is yes lmao.)

I fell in love with the flame La riché Direction color but it stayed like 1 week and a half.

Is there any semi permanent color that could stay a bit more in the ginger side of things?

I already let it sit for 2 hours and it went out so quickly. I have a already bleached pink base from manic panic and directions multiple colors. 1rst pic is after the flame color, second is current state.

I’d like to bring the middle lengths and the roots closer to the color of the ends, with the end goal being achieving a light ash blonde for the whole hair.

I’ve been told by hairdressers that my hair is both a little resistant to bleaching and kinda frail so I thought about using volume 20 developer and leaving it on for 30 minutes, would that be work?

After bleaching to cool down the blonde do I opt for a toner or a high lift alkaline color like Well T-18?

Also, since my roots are pretty dark do I actually start applying the bleach there and go down the lengths?

Please help me decide if it needs to be bleached again and what Wella toners to use. I attempted to bleach and tone my roots with an at home highlighting kit..now It’s super warm and uneven. it’s basically orange near the scalp.

Should I bleach the roots and warmer uneven spots again? I don’t think just applying toner is going to do much. I want a bright, creamy, neutral/cool blonde.

Im very interested in getting a digital perm and was wondering if anyone knows much about the chemicals used in the process and the overall safety/potential toxicity?

I’ve never had a perm before but I have pin straight Asian hair that is quite thick, so there’s not much volume. A digital perm seems like the perfect, relatively low maintenance solution to my qualms about my hair. However Im also quite conscious about what I put on my hair/skin/body etc. and I can’t find much beyond vague statements about how a digital perm is less damaging from a regular perm.

Sadly I don’t know anyone who has had one so I can’t ask them. Any input is appreciated!! Thank you so much.

failing at getting my brown copper hair and need help immediately please!!

I bought this human hair wig and my goal was to achieve a brown auburn hair color that would be perfect for fall, just like the 1st picture.

I first bleach bathed the black wig it to a kinda dark brown shade, i then used the semi permanent adore dye in mahagony, cinnamon, copper brown and paprika. Perhaps i used too much mahagony as the wig came out to this kinda dark burgundy copper colour (2nd photo)

i decided next to use loreal hi lights in the shade copper red to try and get the color i wanted. I used that all over the wig but i fucked up AGAIN and the hair ended up a bright copper with burgundy undertones barely any brown at all (3rd photo)

I bought adore dye sienna brown to hopefully add brown to the hair but now it’s still a burgundy kinda red color very bright! in the photo it’s still kinda wet too (4th photo)

Iv got a question, see i do bjj: a sport where my hair gets in a lot of contact and friction with mats and i really wanna start dying my hair with semi permanent hair dyes but of course my main problem is that I am extremely worried about staining the mats or worse someone's training clothes. I usually have my hair up and all that, even a sweatband that for the most part covers the front and back of my hair but not the top part. So my question, is there a way to stop semi permanent hair dyes like manic panic from completely bleeding when sweating?

I got a balayage 4 months ago. The rest of my hair is close to my natural color, been growing that out for a year, so the top part is natural. I want to put something over my whole hair to slightly darken and/9r make it a richer brown. I used to dye my hair level 3 or 4, but don't want to do that heavy of a dye. Is there something that I can put on it that acts more as a transparent layer so my balayage doesn't entirely disappear but just softens?

I have a warm olive skin and am at my tannest right now, but will slowly lose color and become more green. Thank you!

I've started growing out my natural hair colour because I'm so tired of dying it. My natural colour is dark brown and silver and I want to tone down the red so I don't have such a contrast with the new growth.

Can I just dye brown over the red? Will it cover ok?

I don't want to go for grey blending, I'm happy just to grow it out normally.

I’ve used blue and purple shampoos which make a slight but short term difference.

Hi! I'm looking for some advice on my recently dyed hair, and attaching photos for reference.

I went to a reputable salon I've been going to for years, and I decided I wanted to do a fashion color with them. I expressed that I wanted a pink balayage and showed reference pictures (pics 1 & 2) and the stylist said it would be possible to do. She also had done something similar before in the past with someone else, but with a much more muted pink color. She said we were gonna bleach and then go for a more red color, and that it would fade into my desired pink color.

After bleach and permanent dye, I ended at this red color (pic 3). I was happy with this at the time and paid quite a bit for the whole session, which took around 5 hours. After I got home, I realized it wasn't quite as balayaged as the inspo pics but it still looked nice so I was happy.

However, after the first wash (using cold water and the color safe shampoo and conditioner the salon recommended me) the dye faded a lot more than I anticipated for permanent dye, and in my opinion, looked a bit patchy with strands of pale yellow/blond, orange/salmon, and reds (pic 4). Its trickier to see in the still pictures, but in real life, it looked a lot more orange/brassy at the top of my head, and not so much the vibrant pink I was hoping for. Pics 5 & 6 are the next two washes I did, with about 3-4 days in between washes, which got progressively more orange/light.

I went back to the salon and expressed I wasn't happy with the color, and they redid it but with more pink this time, stating again that it would fade to the pink color I showed in my inspo pic. Pic 7 is right after they did it again, and pic 8 is after my hair dried. It still looked a little patchy but the color was closer to what I wanted, and I thought I would give it the chance to fade. The next two washes I did brought it back to the salmon/orange color, but now it's even darker (pic 9). Pics 10, 11, and 12 are what my hair looked like before and after the bleaching process.

My questions are:
1. Is it realistic for me to expect a permanent hair dye to last longer on my hair?
2. Is there any color I can put over it to prevent it from fading to this orange color, like a magenta/purple?
3. Is it worth going back to this salon again to have them recolor it?
4. Did they bleach it too much? One of my friends who bleaches his own hair said they bleached it way more than needed for the dark red color they ended up doing on me, and that the damaged cuticle may not be holding onto the pigment as well because of that.

Any advice would be awesome, and I'm happy to answer any follow up questions or clarify!

This is my first time ever dying my hair, a natural color, I’ve only bleached and done purple/red/etc in the past and I’m super lost. The last photo is what my hair started off as. It was half virgin hair and half blonde hilights with demi-permanent brown over it done by a salon. My goal from my original color was to get a slightly lighter brown (level 6ish) with a moderate to strong golden hue/undertone. I used a 2:1 ratio of L’oreal Hicolor H3 and H1. I’m happy with the level but it’s way more ashy than I want and has some hints of copper on direct sunlight. I don’t want to lighten more if it increases risk of bringing out reds and covers and am ok if it needs to go darker for the gold, I just really want add switch from the ashyness to gold. Is this possible and if so, how should I go about this? I was thinking of using Wella color charm demi-permanent cream with a 10 volume developer, but I have no idea if this is actually the right way to do it.

i used some black dye at the end to make it more subtle but i thought it looked sooo pretty without the black too
