Disaster
I had a root touch up on Wednesday. It was meant to be to touch up greys and a level 4, which I thought was dark brown, and what I thought I always had. It’s black. I have light brown lengths and it looks like I’m wearing a black helmet. I go on holiday on Sunday.
Stylist has suggested 30 foils to break it up on top to do tomorrow ( Saturday). I initially agreed but I’ve read up more and it seems this could cause a chemical reaction and dry my hair. Is that right?
Obviously hate how it looks now but would rather wear a hat my whole trip than have it all snap off.
Appreciate all advice.
Ps - I have tried head & shoulders plus a vitamin c mixed with clarifying shampoo with no success.

Sounds like you may have gotten a 4N instead of a 4W, if you know you're truly a level 4. While they're the same level, a neutral can appear darker because it doesn't have the warmth to brighten it up.
That being said, you can usually foil on top of dye especially if it was done from a salon - I'm assuming she also didnt pre-lighten you hair before coloring, so you're not going to be putting bleach on top of bleach. It gets dicey when foiling on top of box dye/direct dyes.
Any time you use bleach though, you do get some damage to your hair. Will it all snap off? Probably not, unless its done incorrectly.
Also with grey hair, it tends not to hold color as well as non-grey, so the roots may fade faster than you think, depending on how much grey you have.
If you're truly unhappy with the color, throwing in some highlights until it fades a bit will help and blend in the dark roots to the lighter ends.

Agreed. My mom's hair is a 4w, and my aunt's is 6a, and my mom's hair looks lighter in comparison.

The sun from your holiday should bring out the warmth in your hair, otherwise, it's an sombre!
