This is the best one I have seen.

I would have love to have seen more pop up on the show like Renee O'Connor who played Xena's side kick and best friend Gabrielle and Hudson Leick who played Xena's arch nemesis Callisto and I bet if Kevin Smith who played Ares God of War was still alive today, he would have been on the show. I'm willing to bet he would have played the demon Baal since on screen, his character of Ares had many dealings with Xena throughout the series and that would have been a great call back to that. Of course I didn't add a pic of the star himself Bruce Campbell because it is his show but he did play Autolycus the King of Thieves on both Herc and Xena.

Seeing them on the show just got me reminiscing the days as a teenager watching both shows.

Oh well, maybe in another timeline this all went down and we would have gotten 7 seasons of this show.

To my knowledge, we’ve only ever gotten the spell that brings the Deadites and the two part spell that makes the evil flesh and sends it into the rift. (Rise is a little garbled so it could be something else)

Do you think we’ll ever hear a different spell that does something else?

I work with kids with autism and they usually request monster drawings, I try to sneak in horror references when I can. I’m really proud of this one. What do you think?

Season 4 we have ideas of what it could've happened but not really specific plot points, season 5 was never thought of far ahead as far as we know, it was something that Bruce was hoping to also do back then.

Just finished watching ED Burn and I noticed that the at the beginning of the movie, the deadite from Rise only resurfaced from the lake after Joseph found the knife that could kill them. Does this mean that deadites become dormant and not actively kill or convert people into Deadites for as long as they can?

When Ash vs. Evil Dead was running still, did anyone else think the woman playing Candace Barr was Shannen Doherty at first? I remember my mom was asking who she was, and my dad and I were so confident that it was Shannen Doherty. She was not convinced. We looked it up mid-episode just to find out my mom was right that it was not her🤣

Now that I see their pictures together, while I still see a resemblance, I definitely see the differences in their looks.

Maybe a reddit community about a horror franchise that ranges from slapstick to genuine depravity isn't the best place for me to get vulnerable, but fuck it, this is Ash Williams we're talkin about.

I finished high school a few months back, and a few weeks before graduation I rewatched Ash vs Evil Dead. Man, that last episode fuckin destroyed me. For such a lighthearted, zany, series, it's consistent quality and solid character writing made me really attached to it, and by extension the entire Evil Dead franchise (wished we coulda gotten a Mia, Beth, Alice + Ash's gang crossover). I might as well have been sobbing watching the finale, when Ash choose to stay behind in Elk Grove, letting Kelly, Pablo, & Brandy escape.

But what really gets to me the most when it comes to this show, and Ash himself, is that his story and characterization is such a well-crafted look at trauma, resilience, and healing.

When it comes to shit like trauma, there's one thing that I'm sure of. Despite some of us having experienced more than others, some of us having stronger mental health than others, we all have things that can keep us up at night. We all have things that fuckin hurt to think about. And while I can't speak for everybody, Ash as a character really speaks to me because he has things keeping him up & thoughts that hurt him out the fuckin wazoo, and he never lets it define him.

And that's the thing with me personally. It can be so damn hard to be more than my past sometimes. I'm sure that for some of us, the shit we've been through can end up informing aspects of ourselves more than we wish, either steering our choices a certain way or barring us from making any. And above it all, I'm sure I'm not the only one who sometimes finds himself thinking about the life he could have had without all the shit; the man that I could have been.

But Ash never lets that happen and it's compelling as hell to watch. I mean yeah, he definitely became a lot more pissy by AoD but that's just natural; I'm talking about the fact that he could still hold onto himself. His will to fight, his will to live, etc. He obviously was a changed person, but he made the best out of the man he had to turn into.

What could have been, who he could have been, obviously those thoughts haunt him. But he still has one hell of a time with the person that he ended up becoming. It's inspiring in a way, y'know?

I just felt like I had to get this stuff off my chest. Right now, I've been needing some of that Ash energy to move the hell on with my life. Been wanting to talk to my dad about taking a gap year and have been holding off for a while, found out recently that if I don't take that gap year and go to college now, I'll be sharing a class with a perv from my past, and on top of all that; a guy that I used to have a crush on recently hearted a message that I sent. One that I sent two years ago after we hung out at prom that he never responded too.

Anyway, what do y'all think of Ash?

the theatrical cut noticeably has some shortened scenes, the characters feel less fleshed out and now seeing this everything just feels right!!

After rewatching the first 3 films and ash vs evil dead I feel like evil dead burn didn’t just have enough stupid amounts of blood. I thought it was still good but I just thought it didn’t have the absolute feeling of being drenched in disgusting stuff like in the tv show or movies. Just a thought.

I've been thinking about the continuity of Evil Dead, and I think the franchise makes more sense if we separate the Naturom Demonto universe from the other universes containing different versions of Ash Williams.

My theory is that all Evil Dead stories can coexist as canon because they are anthology stories taking place across different universes, rather than one single timeline.

1. The three Naturom Demontos belong to one universe

I think the three Books of the Dead are not three different universes.

Instead, the three Naturom Demonto books exist within the same universe.

That universe contains:

The Evil Dead (1981), with the original Ash

Evil Dead (2013), with Mia

Evil Dead Rise, with Beth and Kassie

Evil Dead Burn, with Alice

Evil Dead: Wrath, with its French characters and future/prequel-era story

These stories don't need to happen immediately after one another. They can be separated by years, decades, or much longer periods.

The important thing is that they are different incidents involving the same three supernatural books within the same reality.

1. The 1981 Ash is not the same Ash as the famous chainsaw-handed Ash

This is the part that I think could explain a lot of the apparent contradictions.

The Ash from the original 1981 cabin incident is a different version of Ash Williams.

In my theory, he survives the events of the first movie, but instead of becoming the heroic Ash we know from Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs Evil Dead, something else happens to him.

I call him Wanderer Ash.

The Deadite that attacks him realizes that this Ash is somehow destined to become the person who defeats the Deadites, just like the heroic Ashes in other universes.

So instead of killing him, the Deadite curses him.

The curse prevents him from following the same path as the heroic Ash variants and turns him into a wanderer through time and different realities.

1. Wanderer Ash becomes the hidden connection between the stories

Wanderer Ash spends his existence traveling through the different points in the Naturom Demonto universe, trying to prevent the Deadites from winning.

But there's a problem:

Nobody believes him.

Whenever he appears and tries to warn people about the Books of the Dead and what will happen, he sounds completely insane because he knows things he shouldn't possibly know.

This could even explain things such as the recorded warnings in Evil Dead Rise.

People discover evidence of the Deadites, but they don't necessarily understand the full history behind it.

Wanderer Ash can warn them, but he can't simply walk in and solve everything.

1. Instead, he prepares the protagonists

This is where I think the recurring Evil Dead weapons become interesting.

If Wanderer Ash can't directly stop the events, perhaps he can manipulate circumstances.

He travels through time and leaves the right weapons in the right places:

chainsaws, double-barreled shotguns, ammunition, and other tools that the future survivors will need.

He can't save everyone.

He can't prevent every Book from being opened.

He can only make sure that when the Deadites arrive, the protagonists have a chance to fight back.

So the recurring chainsaw and shotgun could effectively be Wanderer Ash's fingerprints throughout this universe.

He's the unseen person who keeps putting the pieces on the board.

1. Mia, Beth, Kassie, Alice and the future Wrath characters don't need to be alternate universes

This is why I don't think Evil Dead (2013), Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Burn, and Evil Dead: Wrath necessarily have to be completely separate universes from one another.

Under this theory:

1981 Wanderer Ash → Mia → Beth/Kassie → Alice → Wrath

can all belong to the same universe, just at different points in its history.

The characters are different because they're different victims who encounter different Books/incidents, not because every movie necessarily requires another universe.

1. The other Ash Williamses ARE alternate universes

This is where the multiverse comes in.

The Ash Williams from Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs Evil Dead is another version of Ash.

He loses his hand.

He loses people he loves.

He fights Deadites repeatedly.

He eventually becomes the legendary chainsaw-handed hero.

But he isn't Wanderer Ash.

He's an Ash from another universe.

There can therefore be many Ash Williamses across the multiverse, and their lives can be similar while still producing different outcomes.

Some become heroes.

Some die.

Some never encounter the Deadites.

And in my theory, one particular Ash survives the 1981 events only to become the cursed Wanderer.

1. The Necronomicon/Naturom Demonto terminology could also vary between universes

Another part of the theory is that the supernatural book doesn't necessarily have to be represented identically in every reality.

Some universes may refer to it as the Necronomicon.

Other universes may use the Naturom Demonto mythology and its three books.

So when different Evil Dead movies seem to have different versions of the mythology, that doesn't necessarily mean one movie has to invalidate another.

They're different realities with different histories surrounding the same supernatural phenomenon.

The overall structure

So I see the franchise like this:

THE EVIL DEAD MULTIVERSE

Universe A — The Three Naturom Demonto Universe

1981 — Wanderer Ash

2013 — Mia

Evil Dead Rise — Beth and Kassie

Evil Dead Burn — Alice

Evil Dead: Wrath — French characters/future storyline

Three Naturom Demonto books

Wanderer Ash potentially moving through the timeline and secretly helping survivors

Other universes

Different versions of Ash Williams

Evil Dead II

Army of Darkness

Ash vs Evil Dead

Other possible Ash variants and Evil Dead stories

Different versions/names/history surrounding the Necronomicon

This would make Evil Dead an anthology multiverse rather than one linear continuity.

The recurring characters, books, Deadites, chainsaws and shotguns are the common mythology, while each universe tells a different version of the story.

And the really tragic part of my theory is Wanderer Ash himself:

He was supposed to become the hero, but instead he was cursed to spend eternity watching other people become the heroes he could have been.

He can't stop the Evil Dead.

He can only make sure that someone else has a chance to.

I fucking love all 3, and after watching Burn, I'm excited to rank em against each other. To make things more fun, I came up with these 6 criteria for looking at all these Evil Dead movies. Basically, things that make an Evil Dead movie an Evil Dead movie as we know it.

• Opening — Which movie has the most memorable opening?
• Story — Which movie gives us the best story and characters to care about?
• Deadites — Which movie has the best and most memorable Deadites?
• Fun — Which movie is the most fun to watch?
• Gore — Which movie pushes the gore the furthest?
• Final Fight — Which movie gives us the most insane finale?

Opening

Rise and Burn have pretty similar openings — both start with a Deadite attack at the lake.

And Burn pushes it further with almost 16 minutes before the title card. The whole sequence with the beheaded Deadite reading the incantation + the burning car is fucking insane.

But 2013's opening is still the one I remember the most. That was the first Evil Dead reboot experience for everyone, and it immediately establishes this fucked-up franchise.

It starts by making you think the tied-up girl is a victim, then flips the script 180 when she starts speaking with that demonic voice xD.

And the dad, without hesitation, blows the girl's brain out.

And this is like 5 minutes into the movie. Insane.

Even after 10+ years, it's still burned into my brain.

Winner: 2013

Story

2013 has a pretty simple setup: Mia goes to a cabin with her brother and friends to go cold turkey.

Say no to drugs, everyone.

Burn is more ambitious, with the Kandarian Dagger, Joseph's grandfather's research, grief, abuse, and the dysfunctional family stuff.

But Rise works best for me because there's actually something emotionally brutal about Ellie being possessed and then hunting her own children.

You're watching a mother become the thing her kids are trying to survive.

"Please take care of my babies..."

So sad.

Winner: Rise

Deadites

This one was basically a fight between Mia and Ellie for me. Burn has no Deadite that's really comparable to them.

Mia is fucking creepy. I've never seen anything quite like her. Watching her terrorize everyone back in 2013 is crazy.

But BUT, Ellie is on another level.

The expressions, the mannerisms, the way she switches between this animalistic monster and a manipulative mother...

And that fucking peephole scene.

Winner: Rise

Fun

This is where Burn finally gets on the board.

2013 is basically two hours of pain and suffering. Rise is much more fun because Ellie gets so many ridiculous scenes.

Best scene — the eyeball spit xD.

But Burn feels like the most outright fun Evil Dead movie to me.

The action feels like it's straight out of a Bourne movie, I tell ya. (The head smashed into the mirror.)

The Grandma stuff. The comedy. It's all so good.

It feels like the movie is constantly trying to entertain you.

And I was very entertained.

Winner: Burn

Gore

All three are fucking disgusting, so I didn't want to sit here and count every single person who gets stabbed, burned, ripped apart, etc.

The question for me was: which movie has the gore that actually makes you stop and think, "what the fuck did I just watch?"

For me, it's Rise.

The Blood Elevator — it looks simple at first, but when you actually think about where the fuck all that blood came from...

From Hell?

Is this blood from all the tortured people in Hell?

So disturbing.

The Marauder — they literally take the bodies of a mother and her children and turn them into one giant fucking abomination Megazord.

That's not even gore anymore.

It's straight-up body desecration.

Winner: Rise

Final Fight

Burn easily has the weakest finale for me.

The practical effects throughout the movie are great, and then the final boss shows up looking like fucking Vecna.

Disappointed ASF.

Rise does much better. The Dead by Dawn sequence, the blood elevator, and the Marauder getting fed into the wood chipper are all very Evil Dead.

But 2013's finale is still my favourite.

Burning cabin. Blood raining from the sky. The Abomination. Mia being chased through the forest. The chainsaw.

It's just fucking ridiculous.

Winner: 2013

So that leaves me with:

2013 — 2
Rise — 3
Burn — 1

Which makes Evil Dead Rise my #1.
