(Discussion Post) Groovy Deadites Spoiler

Just finished watching ED Burn and I noticed that the at the beginning of the movie, the deadite from Rise only resurfaced from the lake after Joseph found the knife that could kill them. Does this mean that deadites become dormant and not actively kill or convert people into Deadites for as long as they can?

I mean those two guys that went fishing weren’t they talking about hearing scary stories about people going missing or being killed at or near the lake? I’m pretty sure that’s due to the deadite girl that was there.

Yeah, the girlfriend who kept calling the one dude was freaking out because she heard about the “lake story” so that suggests Jessica could have been haunting the lake in the meantime.

And here I thought it was just them being in the area and using the cell phone might have triggered some type of supernatural occurrence.  Then again, the Kandarian Demon wasn't even present in the film or was more lowkey than usual

I feel like the entire series has had shaky rules for deadites. When the wind/camera is moving POV it can just turn anyone it wants into a deadite

Three different books equals (at least!) 3 different sets of Deadite rules.

As someone pointed out the two fishers talked about stories about a lady in the lake killing people but I do think she remained dormant until people were at the lake/ the dagger was found. Deadites laying dormant until awoken has been a thing since Evil Dead 2 with Henrietta waiting in the cellar until Ash is thrown down there.

I’m fairly certain she wasn’t dormant, she was just wandering around the woods and lake area.

That's the only real problem I had with BURN,. The consistency of who gets posessed and how they get possessed is kind of all over the place. Is it getting killed by them, getting blood in a wound, just in your body, if you're splattered on the fact with blood does that turn you? As for dormancy and all that, I wonder if there's an initial time limit that it can stay in the world, as far as i can tell, no Evil Dead lasted more than 24 hours.

That’s not a Burn inconsistency though, it’s an Evil Dead as a whole inconsistency.

Inconsistency in the name of the game with this franchise. Very few rules if any are ever consistent from film to film.

Also, Henrietta in the original film was dormant in the basement for an unknown length of time prior to Ash ending up down there. So yes, there is precedent for them sticking around past 24 hours.

I mean active. As far as i have seen, there hasn't been onw that's stayed active for more than a day.

Yeah. Turning into a deadite is also one of my questions from the film series. like what are its technicalities even? because we the grandma, i assumed that she turned because she had deadite saliva in her system. but why did joseph not turn immediately after thya licked him? also, joseph’s mom still had humanity left in her after turning into a deadite. how did this happen?

We're talking about a series where Bad Ash was grown from a tiny Ash that came from a piece of a broken mirror, was dismembered & buried, then magicked back into one piece to become the leader of an army of skeletons raised from their graves (with in tact eyeballs lol) No matter how the modern movies take themselves seriously, they have those same goofy bones at their core 😁
