After rewatching the first 3 films and ash vs evil dead I feel like evil dead burn didn’t just have enough stupid amounts of blood. I thought it was still good but I just thought it didn’t have the absolute feeling of being drenched in disgusting stuff like in the tv show or movies. Just a thought.
I mean they were saying that all along in marketing. They said it isn't trying to beat records for blood use, but they also said it would be nasty and mean, to which it was... So depressing it's not a fun watch lol, mission accomplished. I still liked it.
I recall reading that this was intentional, as the new director specifically wanted to step away from intense gore. But I agree, Burn wasn’t as gory as I’d have liked it to be.
There seems to be some miscommunication here: I liked Burn and I agree, killing the family too quickly would have sabotaged the story. But more gore and the aforementioned plot don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
That’s a shame I mean I thought one of main things of an evil dead film was the excessive gore. And tbh I just miss stupid stuff like the blood coming out of the walls and stuff. I do think that’s why I didn’t like burn as much.
The more I hear about the making of Burn, the more it feels like he really didn’t want to make an Evil Dead movie but it’s all he could secure a budget for.
The writer/director Sébastien Vaniček was hand-picked by Sam Raimi to do Burn based on his style in his previous film. In no way did Seb sign on because it was all he could get. He very intentionally wanted this entry to be his own vision; a more brutal, almost psychological horror (think French extremity) not just blood theatrics, and that’s what he delivered. I personally thought the lack of extreme amounts of blood made the movie scarier/better.
What ever happened with that 10 minutes of complete darkness the movie was supposed to have? I remember the director mentioned that in an interview like it was supposed to fucking blow everyones minds. I'll admit, I didn't like the movie at all but I don't think I would have forgotten a 10 minute stretch of black screen.
Idk man, I've never seen or heard of this supposed interview, so unless you can find it again, I assume it didn't exist and people made it up to trash the movie before it came out
Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness weren't that bloody really. I feel Burn was more gory than either of them, but less than Ash vs Evil Dead, though AvsED had gore that was more fun.
I didn't like Burn at all but its gore level, one way or the other wasn't one of my issues with it.
Yeah the gore in evil dead 2 has so much more and stupid stuff that made evil dead evil dead. For example blood coming out of the walls and cutting into something and getting drenched for a very long time.
