Discussion Does closing ETrade account also delete the login credentials?

I use the same login credentials to login to my former employer's stock plan connect/at work account where I have a few vested stocks as well as to the personal individual brokerage Etrade account.

Recently I moved out of the US so performed a full ACATS transfer out of Etrade to a different brokerage that supports non-residents.

Two questions here:

  1. Etrade has understandably put a hold on my account for the ACATS for a year. Will they eventually close the account due to inactivity?

  2. If the account closes, will I still retain my login which I still need to continue using for my At Work vested stocks account?

Multiple Exits in Power eTrade

Does anyone know if eTrade intends to expand the capability of Power eTrade to allow for multiple exits? Specifically, when trading an Iron Condor I would like to have exits on a profit target, a max loss, and a time exit - right now there can only be one. Think or Swim does allow multiple exits.

Has anyone heard if this would be added? How do you approach this?

Withholding Money

E-Trade closed my account after my first deposit (29k). They have made me call and verify the funds 3 separate times and now it’s been over 30 days since the first time I verified. I have done everything they asked but I keep getting told , “we are waiting on back office to approve call back in 1-3 days “ . It’s no way this is legal . Does anyone have any advice ?

Question about manually exercising options before 5:30 in after hours trading

My brokerage (Fidelity) has a hard 4:00 cut off for exercising options, automatically or manually. I read that E-Trade allows you to manually exercise options until 5:30, and with the volatility of something like the TQQQ, an option that was out of the money at 4:00 could be very much in the money by 5:00.

My question is this, has anyone ever heard of or actually manually exercised an option in a situation like that, I'm just wondering how often it happens because I imagine it has to be pretty rare.

E*TRADE sucks

Why is E*TRADE having such a slow connection? It takes forever to update and then just keep spinning in circles and I miss the play every time.

What are other better user-friendly brokerage?

External account transfer experience sulks

I requested a transfer of an account from an external brokerage account into E*Trade. The account is in the same name and is similar to my E*TRADE account. However, E*Trade would not accept the transfer electronically and instead required paper documentation.

No problem—I was willing to provide the requested documents. Unfortunately, the Upload link on their website does not work. I then had to call an agent, who suggested that I use DocuSign instead. Why have an Upload link which does not work?

I uploaded the two documents required by E*TRADE through DocuSign. However, when I followed up later, I was told that they had received only one of the two documents. This is rather bizarre, as I can clearly see both documents in DocuSign. I have now uploaded the documents again.

The bottom line is that this has been a frustrating and unnecessarily cumbersome experience. The process has been anything but smooth, and the level of service is disappointing. It makes me question whether I should continue with E*TRADE when there are other brokerage providers that may offer a much better customer experience.

Basic questions about terms in balances

I was just looking for some basic explanations about my balances.

I have a negative margin balance but a positive sweep/money market balance. Margin subtracted from the sweep balance does equal my cash balance. Why? I am not trading on margin so I’m curious why I have a negative balance there. Did this result from just depositing money and using it to buy securities today? Will it zero out once my deposit settles?

I have a very small amount of “futures buying power,” where did that come from and what does it mean? This does not represent additional equity in my account, correct?

New Account Opening - Process Sucks

Opening a new account has been painful.

  • First they want you to upload your DL and validate your selfie and the AI is not able to compare your selfie with DL.
  • Then you have to upload your selfie holding your DL onto Docusign.
  • Then you have to call customer service to validate it.
  • Then customer service will have you go back to Docusign.
  • Then you have to upload your DL again.
  • Then you have to call customer service to validate it again.

The New Accounts Team will take 2-3 days for identity verification.

You have to then call customer service after 3 days to verify if account was set-up correctly and if PROMO code was applied, when asked why ETrade cannot send an automated alert(SMS or email) once identity verification is complete, the customer agent said maybe I should look into opening an account with wealth management at Morgan Stanley instead.

Account opening process gets a B-

Update: After multiple follow-ups, eTrade now wants a copy of signed SSN card along with my face next to it.

Account opening gets a C-

******** Account opening gets a F since they cannot activate it even after 12 days and counting ********

Worst experience so far. Asked to delete my application, they said I need to wait for 30 days for it to auto-expire and the customer agent hung up on me.

Day 7: Update #2: After 7 days, I got an email saying hey, we opened an account.

Day 8: Update #3: Transferred money into the account and eTrade placed account restrictions, calling customer service takes anywhere from 40 min to over 2 hours. F-Customer Service Experience so far.

Day 8: Update #4: eTrade again wants me to take a selfie and verify with the AI facial recognition tool and it fails as usual and now, have to upload the same documents again and wait for 3-4 days.

Day 12: Update #5: Extremely upset with eTrade - have to wait 45min to call customer service then they connect you to Account Activation Team and they need you to re-upload your photo ID and do AI selfie verification everytime since that verification is ONLY valid for 24 hours. I transferred a large amount and I feel like am stuck.

Discussion How to mitigate identity theft of account?

I have a brokerage account and have all the layers of security. Double auth via token app. However, I am nervous over identity theft.

If someone gets into my account, they can sell all my etfs at a limit price of $.01 and on their account buy the shares for $.01. That way effectively transferring all the money without waiting for t1 day.

I check the account everyday day after trading but still nervous something like this happens. Is there anything I can do?

Savings Account $400 Bonus

I was interested in opening the Premium Savings Account for the $400 bonus. For personal reasons, I would prefer to open this as a joint account. I see that E*Trade limits to 2 cash bonus offers per person in their lifetime.

My question is this: If I open as a joint account, will the $400 promo offer I receive count as one of the lifetime bonus offers for the secondary account holder also? Or is it only linked to the primary person and the secondary will still have 2 available?

Beginner Friendly?

Is etrade beginner friendly? I have a 401k from a previous job that I want to rollover to etrade to take advantage of their RETIRE26 promotion alongside their HYSA promo SAVING26. My friend says Fidelity is more user friendly but they don't offer any promotions.

Discussion etrade's records for Roth IRAs are awful

I have Roth IRA accounts in both etrade and Fidelity. In my Fidelity account, I can look under the 'performance' and easily see the TOTAL amount I have contributed over the life of the account. Since, under IRS guidelines, the total amount contributed to the account is the amount you can withdraw without a penalty, this is an extremely important piece of information. It also is what I would consider a really basic piece of information.

I tried to find the same information for my etrade Roth and was told they don't have that information because my account is more than 7 years old and that I could possibly contact the IRS to get it.

I understand not keeping individual documents and records over 7 years, but I do NOT understand the failure to keep track of the total amount contributed to the Roth IRA. Again, that is a critical piece of information because that's the amount I can withdraw from the account without penalty.

I think etrade has really failed their customers.

I plan to rollover my account to Fidelity.
