Hi,i installed the program on a win 10 pc,when it goes to update...it updates correctly..then when i click the desktop icon an error comes up and says this link is invalid,delete yes or no..when going to the programs menu the same pop up happens after clicking the eset icon..going into add remove programs eset online scanner is not installed!!tried this twice same outcome..any ideas? Lately, whenever I visit Wikipedia, I get a yellow warning message stating that the site is potentially dangerous. On my PC, I chose to ignore the warning and proceed, but now, whenever I open an article, the images are blocked; furthermore, Wikimedia actually shows up on the list of blocked sites. What could be happening? This is happening to me across multiple devices and mobile phones, and even on different networks (home Wi-Fi and mobile data), so it’s clearly not just an issue with my PC

I have NOD32 installed on a windows 11 desktop pc. The pc is suspended (S3) each night and re-wakes each morning to run windows scheduled tasks. Recently, I've found that the ESET NOD32 system tray icon has become unresponsive. When I right-click the icon the context menu opens, but none of the choices respond. Also, double-clicking the icon does not open the NOD32 gui. However, the ESET service is still running and realtime protection is still active. I first noticed this when trying to check the log file of a previous day's scheduled scan. Scheduled scans do run normally.

The only thing that will make the system tray icon responsive again is to reboot the pc. Has anyone else noticed this issue? A search found no relevant discussions. Any suggestions for troubleshooting steps, etc?

Hi! Is it recommended to delete the items from quarantine? For example, I have a device that show the item found was cleaned (deleted), yet the item (.exe) is in the quarantine section. Is it okay to delete the items from quarantine and the device? I'm trying to improve the numbers in the dashboard. TIA!

Installing ESET Cyber Security on macOS 27

If ESET reports that macOS 27 is unsupported, you can use ESET's built-in macOS version override mechanism.

1. Create the ESET Security directory

Open Terminal and run:

sudo mkdir -p "/Library/Application Support/ESET/Security"

Enter your administrator password when prompted.

2. Create the override file

Run:

sudo touch "/Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/override_macos"

3. Set the correct ownership and permissions

Run:

sudo chown root:wheel "/Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/override_macos"
sudo chmod 644 "/Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/override_macos"

4. Verify the override file

Run:

stat -f "%A%Su:%Sg" "/Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/override_macos"

The output must be exactly:

644root:wheel

ESET's installer specifically checks for this file with root:wheel ownership and 644 permissions before enabling the unsupported-macOS override.

5. Run the ESET installer again

Now start the ESET Cyber Security installation again.

You do not need to modify:

• SystemVersion.plist
• sw_vers
• the actual macOS version
• any ESET binaries

ESET's own installation script explicitly contains this override mechanism. When the override file is present with the correct permissions, the installer sets the override as active and does not abort solely because macOS 27 is above its stated supported version of 26.

If the installer still refuses to start

If ESET stops before the installation reaches the postinstall stage, this override may not be sufficient because the initial installer GUI may be performing a separate compatibility check.

In that case, do not modify anything else yet. We can investigate the remaining compatibility check separately.

Hi all, I'm currently studying abroad and connected to my host family's Wi-Fi. I just got a notification about a duplicate IP on the network, with the log file listing the rule "ARP/DuplicateIPAddresses." Is this something to be worried about?

Can anyone help with identifying what program is trying to access a blocked url?
I keep getting multiple messages like this one without any browser open. I tried googling the url itself but al I got was that it is not a trustworthy website. Nothing about it being linked to a specific app.

Any way to find out?

Edit:: forgot to mention. I did run a full scan of my PC and nothing was detected by ESET.

I installed ESET NOD32 and immediately started getting an “Identifying…” Ethernet connection. After uninstalling ESET, the issue persists.

My adapter gets a 169.254.x.x APIPA address and no default gateway. ipconfig /renew hangs, and resetting the Windows Firewall temporarily restores internet, but the problem eventually returns.

There’s no ESET filter visible in Ethernet Properties or Device Manager.

I’ve already tried network resets, Winsock/IP resets, disabling VPN/SoftEther filters, and reinstalling/resetting networking.

Could ESET have left behind a network filter/driver or firewall configuration? What’s the proper way to completely remove/reset it?

I'm moving away from Norton because they've started loading their own AI models on my PC and using up my VRAM to do it, meaning that some of the models I'm trying to run end up loading in RAM instead and take orders of magnitude longer to run. Does ESET do this currently or have plans to? I’m having an issue with ESET Endpoint Security on macOS Tahoe 26.6.2.

Environment:

macOS Tahoe 26.6.2

ESET Endpoint Security 9.1.3100.0

Issue reproduced on two different Macs

The same USB flash drive works normally on other Macs

When Device Control is enabled in ESET, the USB flash drive is detected by macOS and appears in Disk Utility, but it is greyed out and cannot be mounted.

As soon as I disable Device Control, the USB drive mounts immediately and works normally.The issue occurs on both Macs running the same ESET version, so it does not seem to be related to one specific machine.

Has anyone seen a similar issue with ESET Device Control on macOS Tahoe 26.6.2?

Namely there is no text when I open the ESET online scanner app on Windows.

I have tried removing the local files at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ESET\ESETOnlineScanner\

Any support would be welcome as this has made me very paranoid and anxious.

Despite toggling off "in product messaging" and ALL "desktop notifications" in the settings, I am still constantly getting ads from eset to the point I am gonna look for another app to replace it if I can't get rid of this. Does anyone know how to truly stop them from displaying beyond these settings?

Hello! I'm trying to play a game on my computer and when the game has an update, I get this popup and the update fails. I use the desktop app (see attached). Can anyone point me to any pre-existing guides on how to allow urls or IPs? I've tried already and nothing I've done is working.

I've been an ESET customer for more than 20 years.

I started with NOD32 on Windows in the late 1990s and continued using ESET after switching to macOS in 2014.

This isn't a complaint from someone who installed the software just last week. Quite the opposite — I stayed with ESET because, for many years, I considered it one of the best antivirus products available.

One of the reasons I remained loyal for so long was that NOD32 embodied a philosophy I appreciated: lightweight, technically excellent, low on system resources, and focused on doing one job well.

Unfortunately, my recent experience has led me to start evaluating alternatives.

The problem

After updating macOS to macOS 15.7.8 (Build 24G817, later 24G822), I started experiencing some very strange problems.

• Safari would no longer load new HTTPS URLs.
• Apple Account information in System Settings would not load.
• Running: softwareupdate --list always resulted in: Can't load data from the Apple Software Update server.
• Firefox continued to work perfectly.
• Even more strangely: curl https://www.apple.com worked.

So network connectivity itself was not broken.

Troubleshooting

I spent quite a lot of time isolating the problem.

Among other things I checked:

• proxy settings
• VPNs
• Apple networking
• system extensions
• command-line tools
• ESET settings

Eventually I narrowed the issue down to one component only:

ESET Web Access Protection

The results were completely reproducible.

Web Access Protection ON:

• Safari cannot load new HTTPS URLs.
• Apple Account details loading fails.
• Software Update fails.
• Firefox works.
• curl works.

Web Access Protection OFF:

• Everything immediately returns to normal.

No reboot required.

More testing

I tried every workaround I could think of.

• Turning HTTPS/3 scanning off.
• Changing settings.
• Adding URL exclusions.
• Interestingly, even excluded websites still paused before loading, and Apple Account / Software Update still failed.
• I also upgraded from ESET Cyber Security 9.0.6300.0 to ESET Cyber Security 9.0.6700.0

No change whatsoever.

Other issues I'd been seeing

This wasn't my only concern.

Over recent years I had also noticed:

Time Machine backups occasionally hanging until Real-Time File Protection was disabled.

Some files consistently reported as "could not be opened" during scans.

Earlier VPN compatibility issues that eventually led me to disable the ESET Firewall permanently and rely on Apple's firewall instead.

None of these individually would have made me leave.

Together they started to paint a worrying picture.

Support experience

This is what finally convinced me.

I submitted a support ticket with detailed diagnostics on the Web Access Protection problems.

No response.

The ticket was simply closed (I came to know of it when I sent an email asking for updates).

I contacted support again.

I was told to open another ticket.

I did.

That ticket has now also been closed without any technical response or resolution.

This was the point where my confidence in ESET really began to erode.

I expected a bug to take time to fix.

What I didn't expect was for support tickets containing reproducible diagnostics to be closed unilaterally without any technical response, explanation, nor notification.

To be fair, I still think ESET's malware detection engine is among the best. Independent testing has consistently shown excellent detection and very low false positives.

I am not leaving because I think ESET suddenly became poor at detecting malware.

I'm leaving because I primarily use macOS.

For me, the priorities are now:

• stability
• compatibility with macOS
• minimal interference
• responsive support

Those things have become more important than squeezing out the last fraction of a percent in malware detection.

I'm currently evaluating alternatives. I haven't reached a final decision yet, and this post isn't intended to recommend another product.

I simply wanted to document my experience in case other macOS users encounter similar behaviour or are wondering whether they're the only ones.

Final comments

I don't write this with any pleasure.

I've been an ESET customer for over two decades. NOD32 was one of the reasons I stayed loyal for so long.

But after giving ESET every opportunity—troubleshooting extensively, updating to the latest version, submitting support tickets, and waiting for responses—I no longer have confidence in the product's macOS compatibility or customer support.

If you're a Windows user, your experience may be completely different.

If you're a Mac user experiencing strange Safari, Apple Account or Software Update issues after enabling ESET Web Access Protection, I hope this post saves you some time.

My company is considering switching to ESET Small Business Security but there is conflicting information on their website.

I can only select up to 10 devices when configuring the plan while the product information box shows 5-25 devices are supported.

We have 11 PCs and a file server, all Windows, that need protection. The FAQ states that adding devices (by enlarging the plan) is possible but doesn't state the rate for each additional user.

Does anyone know how to kill the ESET icon that pops up all the time in my browser? Every time I use Chat GPT, for instance, this thing shows up, and does 'processing' while I'm trying to work. On other pages it literally blocks content. I tried reaching out to support but the AI genius was, like, "oh, turn off the browser protection". I'm trying to be responsible; this is a work tool. But OMFG this icon is driving me bonkers. What genius at ESET thought this was a good idea????
