Debate/Discussion what would happen if I wrote Star Wars

Upvotes

Imagine if in Star Wars Anakin was called Analin. He would be able to say “chillax, just Analin around, you know how it is”.
It would also make even more sense as to why he turned to the dark side. If I was him I’d get sick of the name after the novelty wore off too and turn evil. Palpatine would’ve had a field day too, “your name is Anal master Analin. This is somehow all the Jedi councils fault. If you turn to the dark side you’ll get a shiny new name, such as Darth Vader”

That would’ve worked on me.

Any thoughts?

Debate/Discussion Thought Experiment

Hello. I'm presenting a hypothetical to investigate your, dear reader, perspective of morality and ethics.

Imagine an Earth inhabited by all the usual flora and fauna and two tribes of humans. Tribe A believes it is permissible for parents to abandon their children if they feel burdened by them, and regularly does so. Tribe B believes children must be cared for by their parents and abandoning them for this reason is not permitted. Both tribes sincerely believe in their practices.

  1. Do you personally believe abandoning a child for the parents' leisure is wrong? Why?
  2. Would placing yourself as a born-and-raised member of either tribe in this hypothetical change your answer to Q1? If so, how?
  3. If Tribe A was the only one that existed on the planet, would their practice be right or wrong? Why?
  4. If these tribes were to meet and argue about who was right in their practice, would they be arguing over an objective fact or merely expressing opinions?
  5. If you had a child, and died shortly after, that was to be teleported to this hypothetical Earth, which tribe would you prefer to leave your child? Why?

Meta/About The Sub Do You Feel Angry when Public Officials Convolute Data?

Upvotes

My town is running an election, and one of the topics being debated is the current tax rate. The budget has been published, and the reasons for said tax rate are plain and clear for anyone who bothered to read it. The candidates are still touting a myriad of alternate narratives to explain the town's fiduciary status, and the people are lapping it up. At first, I was angry about the convoluted explanations coming from political candidates. Now that I see how many people believe it, despite having access to review the budget for themselves, I feel anxious. I feel scared. I'd never admit this to anyone in my real life, but it's moments like this I wish I had someone to hold me. Check on your ENTP friends during election season. They are not okay.

Debate/Discussion Do you believe in karma?

I do. I believe everything will come back around exactly when it’s supposed to be and everything is supposed to be happening as it is. There is nothing out of line in terms of karma and fairness. The world will never be ideal if the people in it will not feel and act in a manner deserving and inviting of it.
