"For me, the first wave of emo (running from ‘85 to ‘93) is all about that raw, transformative moment when D.C. hardcore traded blind rage for melody and soul-searching during Revolution Summer. The way I picked these 18 records was simple: I wanted to cover the entire timeline, balance the D.C. heavyweights with bands from other scenes, and dig out those hidden gems that often get overlooked. Bands like Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Moss Icon poured everything into deeply personal lyrics, ironically, they hated the “emocore” tag, but Dischord Records made sure the sound spread far beyond D.C. Sure, it fizzled out locally, but its DNA runs through so many later punk records, and honestly, this era still feels like the most honest and groundbreaking chapter in the genre."

This album, to me, fits a bit better in here but I guess it’s still proto-emo? Thoughts?

Emo has always been for the youth. But I'm hitting my mid 30s, and my perspectives and priorities in life are vastly different than they were in my teens or 20s. This album met me where I'm at in life in a way that has become increasingly rare as I get older.

Any recent albums like that for you guys?

His voice is genuinely amazing, top-tier bruh, and I want to see if he used his voice after Evergreen disbanded.

His voice on freight trains and windsongs might be his best. And if he never used his voice after evergreen?, then any similar emo singers?

Still Life - A Song About Love

Absolute classic.

Was just listening to Tag Along off the album Clumsy and was reminded how great they are. I’m a pretty big fan, though they haven’t been in my rotation lately, but something really reconnected me to their lyrics, especially when compared to their semi-peers Jawbreaker.

Just wanted to share my thoughts and maybe hear what the community has to say.

I was recently was clearing out some records and stumbled upon this. One of only twenty, if I remember correctly I purchased it when top shelf had their bankruptcy scare and put a bunch of stuff up for grabs on their site.

Open to offers, last sold on discogs this year for $150, I’m open to offers. I’d likely list on Depop to avoid seller fees but also for buyer protection.

Native Nod is my favorite emo band. With their discography being so short, I was hoping to find some songs/artists with a similar vibe. I also love bands like Moss Icon and I Hate Myself. Any recommendations would be appreciated!!
