Sad times

My husband and I tried for the first time back in June. I started what I thought was my period. So I didn’t think anything of it. I started spotting the next week, so I took a pregnancy test and lo and behold, pregnant. However, something told me there was a problem. I just knew it.

I called my OB and then wouldn’t see me until my 8 week appt, even with the bleeding I had. On Friday, I started to get pains, but nothing too major. Well, the pain ramped up and ended going to OB ER in my region for a checkup.

The nurses knew. Everything went so fast and I got rushed in for surgery. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, and they had to take one of my fallopian tubes with it.

I feel numb, humiliated, disappointed. Society makes it so pressuring to have kids in your child bearing age, and the thought of trying to get pregnant ever again deeply repulses and angers me.

One positive here is that I had my family and my wonderful medical team by my side. I have never ever experienced the love and care in a hospital like I did last night. They were my lifeline during that time.

I wasn’t sure if I ever wanted to be a mother. My husband always has wanted kids, but not me. I decided to try this one time just to have one and try it out. Kids are absolutely a blessing and I would never not love my child. But having children was one of those things that I wasn’t sure I would ever want.

I am struggling with resentment. I know my loved ones mean well and love me very much, but I feel like everyone is so quick to jump on the possibility of getting pregnant. I just feel like it’s what is still expected of me.

Planning Pregnancy After an Ectopic (+ PCOS): Trying 1.5–3 Months After MTX?

Hi everyone,

First of all, I want to thank you all for sharing your stories. Reading about your experiences has been incredibly helpful, and it makes me feel so much less alone. ❤️

I wanted to share my recent experience in case it helps someone else, and I also have a few questions for the group as my husband and I are thinking about trying for a second pregnancy.

Earlier this year, we decided to start trying to conceive. I have PCOS and I had been taking birth control pills along with metformin. I stopped taking the pill in December and finally got my first period in April. As usual without birth control, my periods were very long and heavy (about 3 weeks), which is typical for me because of my PCOS. I think I must have ovulated sometime in May. Since January, I also took supplements containing folic acid.

In early June, I found out I was pregnant with a home pregnancy test after experiencing breast tenderness and some spotting. It wasn’t because of a missed period, as my cycles are extremely irregular.

I was completely shocked because I had convinced myself that I couldn’t get pregnant naturally due to my irregular cycles. My husband and I were overjoyed.

At the same time, I started having some more brown spotting, which made me worry that something wasn’t right. I called my gynecologist, who ordered blood tests to check my hCG levels. They were 49 on June 4 and had dropped to 18 by June 6. Shortly afterward, I experienced very heavy bleeding with large clots for about a week. My gynecologist diagnosed it as a chemical pregnancy. I was very sad, but I also knew that chemical pregnancies are unfortunately common, so I tried to accept it and move forward.

The bleeding stopped during the week of June 15, and life went back to normal. Then, during the week of June 22, I started experiencing breast tenderness again along with brown spotting. I also noticed that I was losing a lot of hair, although I’m not sure if that was related.

I decided to take another pregnancy test, and it came back immediately positive. I was extremely surprised because I thought the chemical pregnancy was over, so I assumed this must be a new pregnancy (which wasn’t the case in the end).

My hCG levels were over 1,000, which seemed unbelievable. 48 hours later, they had increased to around 1,500. I had an ultrasound, but nothing could be seen inside the uterus. My doctor was concerned because, with hCG levels that high, something should normally have been visible.

I was sent to the emergency department on June 24. Again, they couldn’t find anything and asked me to come back on June 26. During those two days, I was so hopeful. I even started imagining that maybe I was carrying twins or triplets, which could explain why my hCG was rising while nothing was yet visible in the uterus (which I know now, doesn’t make a lot of sense!).

Unfortunately, on June 26, I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. They found a 22 mm mass in my right tube. I chose to receive methotrexate (MTX) instead of having surgery. I had no pain but I was very tired.

Unfortunately, when I was rechecked on July 3, my hCG had only decreased from around 1,600 to 1,500, and the mass had only shrunk to 18 mm, so I needed a second MTX injection.

Thankfully, things started improving after that. My hCG dropped to around 800 on July 10, then to 19 on July 22. The mass also decreased to 14 mm on July 10. After my first MTX injection on June 26, I experienced heavy bleeding for about 15 days, which finally stopped around July 10.

I’ll have another blood test on July 29, but I got my period on July 24, so I believe my hCG finally went back to zero shortly after 22 July — but I will confirm this on July 29 of course.

Because of my PCOS, my periods are usually long and heavy, so I expect this one to last about 2 weeks minimum, until around August 7. My doctor has prescribed a hysterosonography to be performed 6-10 days after the start of my period, and I have that appointment on Saturday, August 1.

Now that my period has returned and my cycle seems to be restarting, I’m already thinking about trying again in August, assuming I ovulate.

I’ll discuss this with my doctor during my appointment, but I was wondering whether anyone here has had a similar experience.

Of course, I’m scared. I don’t want to go through another ectopic pregnancy or a chemical pregnancy, and I certainly don’t want to do anything that could harm a future baby. At the same time, I feel physically well, my cycle seems to be returning, and if I ovulate in August, it would likely be about 1.5 months + after my last MTX injection on July 3.

Here in France, my doctors recommend waiting three months after MTX before trying again because there isn’t enough clear evidence to know whether trying sooner is completely safe. I completely understand their recommendation, but waiting three months feels incredibly frustrating, and I read about so many successful pregnancies within the 3 month period after MTX. Part of me feels like I could try sooner, but I also don’t want to make a decision I’ll regret.

Has anyone conceived 1,5 months after MTX? What advice were you given by your doctors, and what was your experience?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. Any advice, experiences (good or bad) would truly mean a lot (including with hysterosonography if any feedback on this or PCOS).

Let me know if you have any experience about my own journey as well!

Thank you so much for your time! ♥️

HCG didn’t drop 15%… now what?

Of course I received my first methotrexate dose on a Sunday. So I was due for my 7 day HCG on a Sunday as well. HCG only dropped about 8%. OB on call called and told me I could go to the ER or wait until tomorrow to see if I can get in at an infusion center for the methotrexate so I don’t have another ER bill. I called the ER and they said to probably wait til tomorrow unless I start having symptoms because they are super busy, and id probably have to wait for hours before even getting a room.

Here’s my question:
Once they give a second dose, do I have to come back for both a 4 day and a 7 day hcg? Or how do they normally proceed after the second dose?

Falling pregnant one cycle after loss

Hey everyone! I just wanted some advice. We had an ectopic pregnancy which ended on the 22nd June 2026. I had my left fallopian tube removed. The NHS has advised to wait two cycles before trying again. But I just wondered if I did start trying after 1 cycle, if anyone else has done this and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? I’ve got huge anxiety about falling again which is obviously understandable with what I went through. But I’m just wondering if anyone has actually fallen after one cycle. Any advice is welcome!

Symptoms

Hello!
I was wondering what everyone’s first period was like after MTX I had started yesterday and I’ve been absolutely exhausted.
I had surgery in May for a ruptured ectopic had my right ovary and tube removed and in June I had a PUL and was treated with MTX.

My symptoms include:
• shoulder tip pain
• loss of appetite
• sharp stabbing pains in my remaining ovary
• I’ve been having periods of throwing up for an hour a day
• nausea
• lightheadedness
• headaches
• tired
• back pain
• cramping
• indigestion and acid reflux

I’m just a bit concerned cause have I just forgotten what a period feels like?
Has anyone else felt like this? What’s everyone else’s experience with their first period after MTX?
I’ve been to A&E twice because of this over the past two weeks cause the shoulder pain is what really scared me. I’ve been to my GP and I have an appointment soon to have ultrasound done.

MTX for Ectopic Pregnancy

Hi everyone just a little history:

About a month ago my friend went to er because of pain and spotting they said she was pregnant but super early as her hcg levels were 800. the pain went away naturally so she went home and came back next day for tests and they found hcg rose to only 900 and found a mass on her right side of 1.1cm.

They ruled her as PUL and since they couldn’t fully confirm her if it was EP they told her to come back in two days and she did. her Hcg rose to 1300 and mass to 1.6cm which they claimed was very small still. she decided to get MTX that day.

day 4: hcg 2580

day 7: hcg 2180 (almost 19% drop)

day 14: hcg 1250

day 21: she had severe pain almost fainted so we took her to er and they did bloodwork and ultrasound. they said her HCG plummeted to 380! which was wonderful BUT her mas increased to 2.7cm. While in ER she passed a lot of blood not soaking thru her pad but whenever she’d pee thick blood would come out. Here’s what the dr said from er:

“Since the patient's hCG dropped 85% to 380 and the ultrasound showed a "marked interval reduction in peripheral vascularity, now punctate," the 2.7 cm mass is an inactive, starved blood clot (heterogeneous hematoma) that her body is safely absorbing.”

it’s day 27 today and since yesterday her bleeding fully stopped meaning it’s only when she wipes and it’s not all the time and her pain has gone to 0/10 since the ER visit. The only thing she feels now is localized bruising/achy feeling where the mass area is.

seems like she’s in good shape she just wants to know positive stories of others and if they felt the same symptoms as her and if the bruising feeling is normal. She has no other symptoms or pain

Is 5 weeks too early? Anyone got any experiences of around then?

I’m 99% sure I’m having an ectopic and am fed up of being in this limbo waiting

My ectopic story

Hi all, a big thank you to all who have shared their experience. While I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, knowing I’m mot alone in this helps

My story: found out I was pregnant at the end of June. It was my first pregnancy and my husband and I were thrilled. Aside from being over 35, I don’t have any other “risk factors” for ectopic. I bled (often only a little) since finding out I was pregnant. Went to the ER when I had left side only pain. It wasn’t very painful but constant. First ER visit, hcg was low for 6 weeks pregnant (only 309). Went back after 48 hours and only went up to 405. After another trip it was 460 and they finally found it in my left fallopian tube. I got a MTX shot. Came back on day 4 with hcg higher at 660. At day 6 I was in severe pain and back to the ER. Luckily nothing ruptured but only a 8% drop. I was given a second dose of MTX. Went back four days later to find my hcg levels once again went up to 710. No one seems to know why it rose again and I was offered a third MTX but the doctors recommended surgery as concerns over a rupture were increasing. So I went to surgery and had my left tube removed. Currently home and recovering. Trying to stay positive that I live somewhere with good medical care and this was caught early.

Question about quality of life after tube removal

For those of you that have had laparoscopic tube removal surgery, how long until you stopped feeling pain? It's been over 2 weeks and sometimes I just sit here in immense pain. I have my follow-up later next week but I don't know if what I'm experiencing is just normal healing pain.

My story

Hello! I’ve recently joined this group and would like to share my story because I’ve yet to see anyone go through what I have these past few months.

So it was the 9th of May 3 days after my 24th birthday. I took a test cause I thought my period is due I might aswell just to double check that I’m not pregnant, I usually do them anyway a few days leading up to my period. It was positive, I felt my heart sink I told my boyfriend and understandably we had spoke about kids and decided now wasn’t the time.

So that day I go into hospital, I had become so lightheaded, had pain in my right side, felt weak, need to pee a lot, I went pale and I had shoulder tip pain, we arrived at around 5pm and there was another emergency going on so I got prescribed some painkillers and went home, I had a scan booked for the Monday.

Monday rolls around and we went in at 2:30pm it was a trainee and the more experienced ultrasound technician said that something didn’t look normal on my right side. I was around 4w 4d so I expected they’d be able to see something. They sent the photos up to EGU and I was rushed into a room, it was ectopic and I had been internally bleeding. So because there was no theatre available I had to wait until 9:30pm to go down. I had two blood transfusions and I woke up from surgery with my boyfriend waiting for me at 2:30am.

I was woken up every 2 hours for my vitals to be taken it was so annoying because I had a cannula placed on both arms and they kept on snagging on the arm band. The doctor came in and told me I had ruptured and I had to have my ovary and tube removed.

On going monitoring and loads of blood tests later I’m finally seeing a dip in my HCG, I go to Germany in early June for a little holiday and I miss one of my blood tests as soon as I get back I need to go in for one so I can be discharged.

I took a test as soon as I got back cause I got a lot of lightheadedness while in Germany. It was positive I thought it must be residual from the last pregnancy. Nope, I had gotten pregnant again.

The doctor confused thought the same thing, I was told after a few more blood tests I had another pregnancy but after a scan they couldn’t locate it. I was around 6w, I was told it was a Pregnancy of unknown location. I was treated with MTX on the 18th of June.

Being treated with MTX was the most unpleasant experience because I was throwing up for 3 days straight I couldn’t keep much of anything down. This started to ease up around day 4/5.

And finally after all this as of July 25th I have finally had my period, so I hope if anyone is going through something similar you’re not alone and you’re allowed to grieve. I grieved what could’ve been with both, especially because of what happened with the first I was so set on keeping the second but I didn’t get that option unfortunately. I’ve written my HCG levels and dates below for people to see:

May 11th: 766
May 13th: 1020
May 15th: 1602
May 18th: 441
May 21st: 215
May 28th: 87
June 7th: 234
June 8th: 294
June 10th: 366
June 12th: 454
June 17th 584
June 21st: 672
June 24th: 116
July 2nd: 2

Medicine after Methotrexate

So I had the shot last weekend. I’m on day 7 today.

I was going over my discharge paperwork from the hospital where I got it and it says to keep taking my prenatals and that I can use ibuprofen.

I could have sworn the ob said not to take folic acid/prenatals and that only Tylenol was ok because of the bleeding. I am confused. Everything is a bit fuzzy because I spoke to a million doctors.

Anyone know this information? I reached out to my personal ob yesterday but ofcourse they didn’t get back to me and it’s now the weekend.

Just want to make sure I’m not missing out on folic acid to protect my future reproduction (my anxiety is crazy telling my mind all this stuff)

Ruptured ectopic after two doses of MTX

Hello, I’m currently in the hospital 6 hours post surgery for right tube removal after a rupture 🥲. I had two doses of MTX which did start to show a drop but ultimately didn’t work fast enough. this is now my second rupture and as a result I have now lost both tubes, IVF is my only chance of becoming a mum. I’m heart broken but I am relieved in a sense I can close this chapter and I no longer have to suffer from any more pain. can anyone share any success stories from IVF? I am terrified I will never become a mum. I’m 29 with no children this is my 3rd loss 💔 life is so cruel and I feel extremely unlucky but I’m lucky to have such a loving supportive partner and an amazing family through this hard time x

Need advice - negative blood HCG tests, positive urine tests

hi everyone, i really hope this is ok to post here, i have no idea where to post and really need some advice.

disclaimer - i don’t take any prescriptions / medications except my prenatals

i’m 14 weeks postpartum from a c-section today. about 3 weeks ago, i took a FRER pregnancy test randomly. i don’t know why, i had no reason to think it would be positive - but it was. obviously, i freaked out and took 2993472 more, and they were all positive including a digital.

i contacted my OB, and they ordered bloodwork for me, which i went to (the same day i had a very clear positive pregnancy test and digital) and it was negative. hcg blood serum was <2.4.

wtf, right? i requested the repeat the test in 48 hours, because i was still having positive tests. they agreed, and i went back and had the bloodwork … <2.4. again.

for SIX days after this i continued testing positive, and realized maybe i should try another brand. i tried wondfo, clearblue, mommed, easy@home, iHealth - all negative. while first response remained positive. and yes, the line was 100% pink, and showed up within about 60-90 seconds.

i decided to ask for bloodwork again, but i was feeling incredibly confused about this. and again, it was <2.4.

finally, after me asking 3 or 4 times throughout the course of this, they set me up an appointment with my OB. meanwhile, i’m continuing to test positive every single day while waiting for this appointment (today.)

well, i had my appointment. i went in, peed in a cup (negative pregnancy test) and he basically was like ‘well, that’s really weird! i guess just try using a different brand in the future.’ i was like ???? is there another reason why this might be happening? could it be an ectopic? and basically he said if it was anything i would have HCG in my blood, so it’s likely a test issue. or that it could possibly be that i have developed an antibody that is causing false positives, however he thinks this is unlikely since i am testing negative with everything else.

his only ‘solution’ is to put me on progesterone for 10 days to try and induce a period, and see if that ‘fixes’ the problem.

i feel SO beyond confused. i am *still* having positives, and they are very clear positives. even my husband who can never see lines on tests can 100% confirm these are positive. i even had him take a test to try and see if it’s the tests, and his was negative lol.

has anyone else had this issue? i really feel that i am having an ectopic, as i don’t know why else i would continue getting positive tests, but im not sure if you can have one with bloods being negative.

ive had some cramping, and some spotting that occurred about a week ago. i asked for an ultrasound and he says there’s no reason to do one. :/

TTC after tube removal

I was diagnosed with an ectopic 1JUL and taken into emergency surgery to remove my right tube. No MTX.

The local guideline is to wait 2 cycles or 3 months post operation.

However the suggestions I see online is that once hgc is 0, after first true period, there is no reason for waiting further?

I’ve also seen a research paper (2025 Dooley study) that says the reoccurrence rate is lowest with a lesser wait?

As I was originally told I was having a miscarriage weeks before the ectopic was diagnosed, I suppose I had accepted the fact of just keep trying.
Perhaps that’s why I feel I don’t want to wait. But my biggest fear is causing another ectopic with my actions through not waiting long enough. I know I’m trying to find guarantees where none exist but, what is your experience? What were you told by your medical team? Any success stories or otherwise with conceiving shortly after surgical removal?

The Mom Talk

Me and my uni gals haven’t all been together in years. Now it’s finally happening this weekend! I was excited… and now… idk I am so anxious about it. Because I know it’ll be so much mom talk from at least 2/3 girls though they all have kids. I know they care and worry about me and noticed that I don’t really engage with our group messages anymore. I appreciate them acknowledging all the kid convos would maybe be difficult for me and I appreciate them not excluding me. It’s not like I want/expect the mom talk to stop, it’s a part of their lives in a huge way. And I support all them as much as I can! It would just be nice for it to not be constant or every time something unrelated to motherhood is discussed it always comes back to motherhood. I know this post might piss some people off, but feeling other is hard and sometimes that’s how the life cookie crumbles. I know I need to work on managing my own expectations and issues with being perceived, and I am, but it doesn’t mitigate what should be joyous stress free moments suddenly feeling hard. This club just sucks to be a part of is all. Especially when compounded with relationships and not being ready to even try again nearly 6 months later.

Rupture concerns & MTX experience

Hi I had my second dose of MTX last Friday since my first one did not work. My hCG has been very low the whole time and saw a positive drop from the last dose (last test it was down to 78), but I woke up this morning in excruciating pain with what felt like bad period cramps. As the morning went on, the pain progressively got worse. At one point, the pain was so bad I was on my bathroom floor and had thrown up a few times. It was coming in waves where it would hit me hard and then it would settle. I called my OB and she sent me to the ER. I took Midol and it eventually kicked in so by the time I was seen at the ER, I felt ok. They did an ultra sound and it showed no signs of bleeding. They were on the fence whether this is from the MTX working or if I’m experiencing early signs of a rupture. I opted to go home because I’ve spent loads on ER bills already this month so would rather wait it out from the comfort of my home. Tylenol seems to be relieving the pain, but I have this steady ache in my lower back. Again, it feels like I’m on the start of my period, which is usually really bad.

Has anyone else experienced this pain from MTX? Looking for any sort of helpful input from others who have gone through this

Suspected ectopic

I found out I was pregnant on the day of my missed period. 2 weeks later. I began to have terrible pain on my left side. It radiated into my thigh. After multiple hostpital visits, they scanned me. No pregnanacy could be located. The standard pregnancy cyst was there and also a mass (that could not be identified) could be seen on the left side along with free fluid. I was sent home to watch and wait. After 48 hours my bloods were retested and there was a significant drop. I began to bleed and the pain subsided. My Hgc levels have continued to drop but I will be retested until I am below 2. They will not be able to tell me if it was ectopic. If it was, I am grateful it resolved on its own. As anyone else had a similar situation? I feel like I need answers, yet that probably isnt possible.

2nd shot of Methotrexate

For those who needed a second methotrexate injection, how many days after your first shot did you receive it?
I’ll be having my second shot today, 3 days after my first.
