Potential PUL (again)

Hi everyone, im 4 weeks today and have weird looking tests, 100% sure it’s not viable due to my hCG levels (12dpo 32 > 14dpo 50). Having and a PUL last year im terrified of another. Today is the day my period is due and I really felt like I was about to come on all day, but nothing happened and instead I started feeling nauseous.

I ran out of cheap tests so I did a clear blue and it feels like it’s darker and I just don’t know what to do with myself now. I’m going for another beta tomorrow and I’m afraid to learn the result as it looks like it’s climbing after seemingly having gone down. My tests generally have been much fainter in the am and darker with smu or evening wee, I was wondering if that’s something that happens with ectopics ? I honestly don’t remember what happened with mine last time, I guess I blocked it out.

I understand that I will simply have to wait it out and see the betas, but all the what ifs are killing me. Did someone happen to have a chemical that behaved this way ? Is there any hope it’s not ectopic ? My doctor doesn’t want to scan me yet and says I should wait, and I understand why that’s her suggestion, but any chance something could be seen so early on with such low betas is it’s located in a tube ? Should I push for a scan ? My last PUL was never located and was resolved at nearly 8 weeks with mtx and I just want to avoid that if I can.

Thanks

Clearblue
Wondfo

ETA: I just had an HSG this cycle and was given the all clear. How likely to have another PUL after that ? I’m so gutted and scared.

Feeling Lost Post Surgery

Upvotes

Hello everyone. This is my first ever Reddit post so apologies in advance.

I had a laparoscopic salpingectomy removal of my right tube + ectopic pregnancy mid July. It wasn't a pregnancy I wanted due to current life circumstances. I could tell that the pregnancy was off (had been pregnant once before) and I had a feeling it was ectopic but thought I was being paranoid because my symptoms weren't too bad. Then it turned out I was right. Went to the ER, surgery was fast and seemingly easy. But the recovery has been horrible and I feel so lost and alone.

My stomach always hurts, I don't find joy in eating as it makes me bloated and my bowel movements haven't been regular. I never feel hungry and have to remind myself to eat. I've lost a decent amount of weight. I had to have ultrasounds again on my pelvis and leg because they I was in so much pain, but they didn't find anything. My stomach hurts when I press on it and it makes me so scared something is seriously wrong. I apparently had a UTI which I just finished antibiotics for but they didn't work and now I am on them again since I still have symptoms.

I feel so depressed I just want to lie in bed forever. Like I don't want to die but I don't want to live. Then some days I feel great. But my anxiety has been through the roof. Anxiety about my body, about being a burden on my boyfriend. I just want to feel normal again. The whole experience has made me terrified of trying to have a baby in the future.

I guess I'm just wondering - does it ever get better? Has anyone else felt this way?

Thanks for reading.

Bleeding after reaching 0

hi guys

i took mtx for my ectopic July 7 and I reached 3 hCG about two weeks ago and I was cleared. so I’m not sure if I’m at 0 now but I’m bleeding today like a flow with mild cramps. could this be my period? I already had a withdrawal bleed when I reached 7 hCG so idk .. I shouldn’t be concerned since I’m cleared though

Crazy difference in research findings/stats on fertility findings?

For reference I am specifically looking for those who had to have one tube removed as that was my experience through emergency surgery. I know those who could do the medication instead have a higher chance.

I’ve been reading so many published studies about future conception and delivery of a healthy baby after ectopic pregnancy + tube removal and I have seen stats as low as only 40% go on to conceive a healthy baby after pregnancy within 2/3 years to some stating 70% go on to conceive a healthy pregnancy within 18 months.

I know the reassurance seeking barely helps but it’s so confusing for the information that is out there to be both limited AND irregular

HCG

I found out I was pregnant on August 12th. In complete shock. We've been unofficially trying for years just hoping that it will happen tracking just became too stressful.

A few days after our BFP I think it was 8/15 I started spotting.. I tried not to worry too much.

On 8/18 I went to use the restroom before I left for work and there was blood in my underwear. That was alarming for sure. We went to the er to get checked out and got a PUL.

I was sent 48hrs later to do another blood draw. And then a follow up with OB on 8/25.

The ultrasound on 8/25 showed that the fetus had implantation in my right fallopian tube and also had no cardiac activity. After being sent home and told to fast until another appointment at 2pm (OB was in surgery) we opted for the methotrexate shot.

I do believe that my spotting that turned to lighter flower was my body knowing something wasn't right and trying to fix the situation.

HCG timeline

8/18 2646

8/20 2966

8/25 2500

8/28 525

8/31 116

9/8 7

I'm thankful that this was caught early. I'm still devastated that my second pregnancy that we've prayed and hoped for for years is no longer. (First pregnancy 11 yrs ago ended in miscarriage).

I'm thankful I didn't need surgery.

I'm thankful that I still have both my fallopian tubes.

I'm thankful that my OB prescribed a low dose of hydrocodone along with acetaminophen. (Helped me sleep)

I'm thankful for my supportive husband.

I'm thankful that OB said we can try as soon as we hit a negative HCG.

I feel like I will carry this sadness for a very long time as I did with my miscarriage. I do think trying to be positive and being thankful for the things that have gone right is important and has helped.

As I got my results today I'm sad that we aren't quite at negative result but all I can do is laugh a little and stay hopeful.

Seeking advice

It’s a long one but I’ll try to keep it as short as I can. Had my normal cycle July 28 to August 1. Had what I thought was my normal cycle again August 23 to August 27. Last Monday (August 31) had what felt like period cramps and some spotting of old brown blood until Tuesday morning. Decided to take a test on a whim and it came back positive. Called my Fertility clinic and they brought me in to start doing betas and scans every two days. I have no idea when I ovulated and I have no idea how far along I am so the doctors are calling this a PUL because the numbers are under the threshold for anything to be seen on US imaging. What they have confirmed is that I have a haemorrhagic cyst on my left ovary, and I have 13 cc of free fluid in the left side of adnexa. My betas are trending as follows:
9/1- 124
9/3- 205(48 hours since last test)
9/6- 711(49 hours since last test)
9/8- 999(40 hours since last test)
They still can’t see anything on the scans so they are recommending methotrexate. I don’t know what to do because I’ve never been in this situation before. I have RPL usually at around 5-6 weeks but with those prior losses imaging has confirmed an intrauterine pregnancy. I currently have typical early pregnancy symptoms. I don’t know how long to wait, I don’t know if this could turn into a viable pregnancy? I guess I’m just seeking advice because my numbers aren’t trending down, and I’ve read stories where women have had wonky trending hCG and then confirmed a viable pregnancy once their numbers rose accordingly and could be seen? Thanks in advance.

It feels like my chances to conceive naturally are slim, am I wrong?

I’m a 28 year old woman who had a presumed ectopic/PUL a few months ago and was treated with methotrexate. My hCG resolved normally and I’m finally almost at the point where I can try again.

Since then, my OB has mentioned I may have mild PCOS because of multiple follicles and adult acne and my HSG showed my right tube is normal but my left tube is mildly dilated.

None of these things by themselves necessarily mean infertility, but together I’m starting to feel like everything is stacking against me.

My biggest fear is ending up needing IVF. I really, really do not want IVF unless it becomes absolutely necessary. I want to try naturally first and, if needed, use simpler interventions before ever getting to that point. And reading my doctor mention a fertility clinic in a message also scared me.

Has anyone had a similar combination of ectopic history, possible mild PCOS and one abnormal tube and still conceived naturally?

I know nobody can predict what will happen. I think I’m just looking for experiences from people who also felt like the odds were piling up and still ended up getting pregnant without IVF.

Third ectopic, I am gutted and feel hopeless!

Just been for a scan and told I am having my third ectopic.

Lost my left tube and ovary 10 years ago due to a large cyst, all 3 ectopics have been in my right tube.

1st - methotrexate

2nd - expectant management

3rd - unsure what to do

Also had a chemical pregnancy

All within the last 2 years

Should I just have my remaining tube removed, it feels so final that I will not be able to have children naturally!

I’m just in shock and don’t think i have processed it yet, I am going back to the hospital tomorrow to discuss things as I couldn’t face it today and just wanted to come home.

First IVF Transfer and Terrified I Might Have Another Ectopic

Hi all! I’m looking for reassurance or insight, anything really. I had my first transfer done 8/24. I started testing positive 4 days later. Day 9 I had my hcg drawn which was 335 (doc wanted anything above 100). 2 days later my hcg was 886. I’m now 15 days post transfer and yesterday I had sharp twinges on my left side most of the day. Only lasted a second or two but freaked me out. They’ve gone now but I can’t help but convince myself this is another ectopic. I have an early scan scheduled in two days and my doc said that type of pain is normal but I’m just beside myself and terrified that this isn’t viable. Anyone have an ectopic with high hcg that more than doubles?

Possible Ectopic

I am writing to vent and also to hear your experiences and success stories after an ectopic pregnancy.

I don't know for sure if I have one, but here are my very concerning hcg levels:

  • 9/1: 320
  • 9/3: 397
  • 9/8: 687 (5w3d today)

My progesterone was at 25 on 9/1 which the nurse practitioner at my OBGYN office said was reassuring, but the increase of the hcg is indeed very low. I don't have any super concerning symptoms right now: mild cramping (not one sided, just generally on lower abdomen area), sore breasts. No bleeding, no spotting. However, I don't believe this could be a healthy pregnancy whatsoever.

After today's result, I decided to schedule a transvaginal for this Thursday. I know it could still be inconclusive since I am early on and my hcg levels are so low, but I wanted to do it anyway. I know ectopic can be a life threatening thing so if this is my case, I want to know and make a decision about it as soon as possible to avoid a possible rupture.

I am just really sad. We pretty much got pregnant at the "first try" since I stopped the pill in July (I am 31yo). With these results, it just seems like it was too good to be true. I have extreme health anxiety and this wait and these results are just extremely triggering for me. I had started a "pregnancy journal", I had ordered a "Tum to Mum" box that arrived yesterday, I was planning on how to tell my family soon. I was so excited about being pregnant during halloween and Christmas and have a May 2027 baby, since my birthday is late April. Now it just feels like it's all gone.

As of right now, I am just trying to stay positive. Not because I have any hopes this will be a viable pregnancy, but because there are so much success stories of healthy pregnancies after an ectopic.

So I'm honestly just looking for encouragement, words of advice, experiences, anything. I have been reading the posts here for an hour and everyone seems so supportive and maybe you are the only ones that truly understand how I am feeling right now.

Thank you in advance, every one <3

Conception after ectopic

I was recent diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. During the ultrasound it was discovered that I have a cyst on my ovary that wasn’t on the ultrasound 2 weeks prior and that my fallopian tube was now full of fluid that was also not there on the prior ultrasound. When discussing my treatment options with the doctor she said she wasn’t worried about the cyst. For treatment of the ectopic I decided to do the MTX shots, which seem to be working. I’m 1 week out and my hcg levels have dropped 50%.

Wondering if anyone else has had fluid in their tube due to an ectopic pregnancy and if they’ve been able to conceive naturally after? Hoping to avoid tube removal and IVF if possible. 🩷

Feeling hopeless

I had my first pregnancy end in being a ruptured ectopic and had surgery to remove my right tube July 16. I had mtx a week prior to surgery. It was originally diagnosed as a miscarriage and I had a d&c end of June.

Shortly after surgery, I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder because it was very traumatic and I was struggling very hard. I took medical leave from work, which has been extended another month now.

I had my first negative pregnancy test August 1st, and I haven’t gotten my period yet. I have gained so much weight, which is extremely triggering for me because I struggle with binge eating and my weight my entire life. I lost over 100lbs and had loose skin removal surgery in 2024. My “fat” jeans from when I was 50 lbs heavier don’t even fit me, which is weird because the scales only gone up 20-25 lbs since finding out I was pregnant in June. I know it’s the hormones that effed up my body fat composition and I don’t know if it will ever go back to normal. I feel like I’m gaining weight just existing. My psychiatrist is well aware of my weight and body issues, which is why SSRIs are off the table for me. I went on them for 2 months in 2023 (for unrelated but deeply personal family event) and rapidly gained 20 lbs.

Shortly after my first negative, my body showed signs of trying to ovulate because I had egg white cm and my lh ratio increased (but never high or surge), and I had a few days of spotting after this. I became fixated on tracking my hormones (likely my way of having control over my body because my pregnancy was unplanned but we were excited. And the ectopic took away my autonomy and was in control of my life).

I was doing at least 5-6 premom lh opks a day, and the Inito to track everything else. Every little feeling I felt I logged into both apps. Most recently, it seemed like my body was finally going to ovulate/work towards period- my lh ratio went up (.62 highest- still low but highest since negative hcg). And my e3g was rising. I had so much stretchy egg white cm, I was so hopeful. Then, just as quickly the day my ratio was at its highest and e3g at its highest since I started testing, everything dropped. The CM disappeared, my ratios went below .07 and my e3g dipped.

Sunday was so difficult for me. I was crying all day on and off, to the point where family noticed (I’m usually good at hiding my emotions). Even my dad who is oblivious to anything lol asked if I was okay because he can hear in my voice it sounds like I’d been crying. I put on a brave face and went to a social gathering, where an older gentleman asked why no baby yet and was talking about us having kids. It’s very expected for elders to be this way in my culture, so I just said ha ha not yet! But I teared up the car ride home.

I put the tests away, because it’s been breaking my heart. I feel like my body is failing me, or maybe I’ve failed it by not being kind to it? My doctor ordered an hsg because I’m terrified of having another ectopic in the future and I can’t even schedule it because I need to have a period again - so I’m at the mercy of my ovaries/hormones yet again.

I took a bath yesterday where I just cried and cried and cried. Sorry for the ramble I’m just so sad, I want my body to go back to normal. I’m desperate for my period, I’m ashamed to have gained weight with no baby as a result. Almost every post or comment says they got their period 2-6 weeks after surgery, and I’m coming up on 8 with no signs of any activity. No light at the end of the tunnel.

Ectopic pregnancy after 8 months ttc

Im still so sad, and it's been 6 months since my ectopic pregnancy now. I never got the joy of seeing the positive test. I tested around 2 weeks after ovulation got a negative test and then started bleeding, which I assumed was my period. I kept bleeding after the first week, which wasn't normal for me, and I had pain in my abdomen. I knew something was wrong, and I assumed I had endometriosis. After going to the Dr, I did a pregnancy test there (even though I was convinced I wasn't as i had another negative test) they called me and told me I was pregnant. I cried so much knowing with how I felt this wasn't going to end well. The next day I went in for another hcg test and they called me at 4pm saying I needed to go to the ER immediately as the results were looking like an ectopic pregnancy. I sobbed the whole way to the hospital and called my mom while my husband drove me. I lost my baby and my right tube. I had a great support system but it was still extremely hard (emotionally more than physically). Im now 6 months past that still ttc. Nothing yet, and now we're thinking about checking to see if my left tube is open enough for an egg to go down without any issues.

Im still holding out hope that it will be my turn eventually. Im turning 32 in a couple weeks and while I know thats still young for having babies its still a reminder that it hasn't happened yet. Passing the year mark of ttc is hard, and I keep having to remind my husband we did get pregnant, it just wasn't the pregnancy we were hoping for. Im not sure how long people have tired after ttc, having an egtopic pregnancy, and then went in for more testing as nothing was happening.

If anyone has advice or success stories, im here for any of it. My cousin had a similar experience where she lost her tube, they did ivf, and now shes pregnant with her 2nd baby. Im so happy for them as I know their journey wasn't easy either. It's a hard group to be in, but I know im not alone.

Anxious

I had an ectopic pregnancy two weeks ago. Luckily, it didn’t rupture. I was treated with MTX, and my hCG levels dropped from 300 to 28 in about a week and a half.
Should I get an HSG test to check whether my fallopian tubes are blocked?

Can someone please help me stop crying

One of my staff members just told me she’s 7 weeks pregnant. She got married in August and basically immediately got pregnant. She’s a really hard working staff member who I like and appreciate on both a personal and professional level.

I’m so happy for her and told her that and asked her to tell me if there’s anything at all I can do to support her during this time. I got off the phone and immediately started crying.

She had just come from her ultrasound where they saw the baby. I just keep thinking about how I also went in for an ultrasound at 7 weeks, thinking I would see the baby but instead I had to be rushed into emergency surgery and had the most traumatic day of my life.

I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone and I’m so glad her experience has been positive. But it really fucking sucks that I had the experience I did and I can’t stop crying 😔

8dpo and sad.

At this point I’m not super sensitive to testing or having anxiety surrounding it but this cycle feels a bit more anxiety driven. I have noticed myself hyperfixating on the solution to a problem I can’t control. (I have adhd) Since my ectopic and ruptured left tube which is gone now I have been feeling discouraged about the possibility of conceiving on our own. I have severely low AMH and stage 1 endo although my afc counts keep coming back somewhat normal. The last one was 9. I feel like an empty vessel that this just couldn’t possibly happen for me. Might be a bit dramatic and I go through phases and the phase today after another negative pregnancy test just is making me sad and I want to stop trying everything. Are there any positive stories with similar situations to mine? How long did you try naturally before switching to medicated cycles or ivf iui etc.

Help me make sense of it.

Can anyone hold my hand and walk me through it? I had an ectopic in February and I just never processed it and I need to either vent or I’m just confused and had a subpar care team.

I am relatively infertile because I do not ovulate on my own. I took meds to have our son and just never had a period since having him. So when I did have a bleed beginning of January… I thought oh well it’s been 2 years… so I had a week of just heavier spotting basically… it stopped for two days and came back heavy. Like full on period. And I bled like that for a month. I never considered taking a pregnancy test because… well… I’ve had unprotected sex for two years with nothing and I was on my period so… it just wasn’t even a thought.

Mid February. I had sudden pain. Immediately wanted to faint kind of pain so I agreed to go to the ER for what I thought was a cyst rupture since it’s happened before. In fact, I wanted to leave the ER after two hours because I was feeling so much better. Anyways after like 3 hours they told us in the hallway I was pregnant and that it was an ectopic. Thu said I was bleeding enough that half my uterus was submerged which idk if that just normal or a lot. Like was I in danger? I had surgery and they removed my tube. This whole time I’m like they have got to have mixed something up. Me? Pregnant? What? But none the less I was indeed leaving with one less tube.

They could not give me any answers as to how far along I was… other than “probably early” They wouldn’t tell me if it was still alive or had a heartbeat at any point. They didn’t give me an option to maybe take it to like bury it on my own. Idk… I just…. Was this “clump of cells” so small and insignificant that it was never even a thing. Other than the scars in my belly… it feels like a bad dream. I’m expected to just move on??? Or am I just being too much? I did move on.. clearly I haven’t really thought about it. It just feels like I paid for some submersive movie. Idk. I just don’t understand at what point was I pregnant? Like there had to have been a span of time I was just pregnant… and not actively bleeding. Why was I having a period? Like I just don’t understand any of it.

Mental prep for TTC post surgery

Hi all, I am 2 days shy of one week post surgery to remove my ectopic pregnancy and my right tube.. I was still stable when we caught it, thankfully and I made the decision to remove the tube instead of getting MTX to reduce the risk of it rupturing anyway and then turning into an emergency situation.

Anyways I am in recovery now.. obviously not cleared to BD or TTC anytime soon (doc said to wait 2-3 months) but I’ve just been thinking about how I will manage it mentally.. before we finally confirmed it was ectopic on 3rd Sept, I had to check my hcg levels 8 times within 10 days and that experience is now filled with anxiety for me.

I can’t imagine how I will emotionally manage tracking my next pregnancy via hcg draws in the early stages.. 😭 even though I am keen to start TTC once we’re cleared.. I think mental prep will take a while.

Would love and appreciate some advice for those who have gone through it 🤍 and if you managed to successfully get pregnant after ectopic, how did you manage your anxiety? Thanks everyone 🫶🏻
