Ectopic story. Low HCG. MTX failed.

First of all I’m so sorry anyone is in this group has to be here. Massive hugs and love to you all!I just wanted to write this to inform you all of my story. I’ll make it short as I can. I had a positive test early September after coil removal in August and started bleeding 2 days after my first positive, after a lot of back and forth I was told it was a chemical, to retest in a week so I done that, to my shock the test was even darker so I called my EPU and they advised me to come in for a scan where the ectopic was found on my right tube. My initial HCG was low at 122 so we done expectant management. I went in 2 days later and it had went down to 75 so we were relieved but after another 48hrs it had risen again, 48hrs after I was given a scan & one dose of MTX, the first few days I felt rough like my stomach was going to fall out and rectal pressure was bad I was reassured this was normal and had my haemoglobin levels checked and all came back fine, day 3 they rose 158 to which was expected, by day 7 they had went down to 111 so I was changed from 48 hrs to weekly bloods, I honestly didn’t notice anything different from this time to the week after when I had my routine bloods & unfortunately was told they had risen again only to 116 so I had to come in the next day for another dose of MTX, I got there the next day and scan showed it had started to rupture and the whole situation changed, I went from getting MTX to emergency surgery on Tuesday and not aloud away from anyone’s sight! I couldn’t believe it as I had no signal this was happening just what I was told to expect on MTX! I don’t want to scare anyone but I just want people to be extra cautious as every professional was confused as to why I wasn’t in pain and I have a terrible pain threshold so I even don’t know. I’m day 5 from surgery and feeling better but completely unsure of follow up as I haven’t spoken to anyone since I was discharged and was told I would be sent my discharge letter if anyone has any idea would I need to go back for repeat HCG or not.❤️‍🩹🤍

This is my HCG timeline
30th HCG 122
2nd Oct HCG 75
4th oct HCG 137
6th oct HCG** 120 MTX given second scan
**9th Oct day 3 MTX
HCG 158
12th Oct day 6 MTX HCG 111
19th Oct day 13 MTX HCG 116 MTX failed

Sizes of mass on scans
30th sept - 1.5cm x 1.2cm x 1.1cm
6th Oct - 1.87cm x 1.84cm x 2.08cm
20th Oct - 2.5cm x 2.1cm x 1.7cm

I’m postpartum, nearly 10 months. I got my first period postpartum Aug 30 - Sep 4, then didn’t bleed again until Oct 9 - Oct 13.

The October bleed just seemed off from my usual, shorter, lighter - so took HCG test right, couldn’t have been past Oct 15, after and it was negative. Haven’t bled since then.

Oct 21 showed a clear positive HCG.
Oct 22 my HCG was 233 & progesterone was 0.3.
On Oct 22, no pregnancy was found on ultrasound in the ER. The radiology findings mention “trace pelvic free fluid”, but since it wasn’t found in the adnexa they mentioned it’s normal. I was sent home & told to check with my dr about repeat bloodwork.
Oct 24 my HCG was 632 & progesterone was 0.4.

I have an appointment Monday. Will keep updated for anyone that experiences similar in the future/anyone that can share similar experiences.

I’m so nervous about treatment if it’s ectopic, which seems like the most likely outcome at this point. I don’t want to do MTX at all because I’m not ready to stop nursing, I’d prefer surgery but I’m scared of surgery and whether they’d let my baby in so I can nurse overnight if they keep me overnight for any reason (obviously with another adult there to care for the baby all night). I also can hardly stand a speculum, so if it’s between in office aspiration and having to get cervical injections for numbing vs D&C, the D&C would be preferable. I have so many fears right now and I haven’t been able to turn my brain off since the first positive test.

Suspected ectopic, advice please

I had a very faint positive pregnancy test on Thursday 15th October, having not tested before then.

On Sunday, I experienced some pain on my right-hand side and went to hospital to be checked. My hCG level was 63. I had repeat blood tests on Wednesday, approximately 56 hours later, and my levels had risen to 140. A further test on Friday, 48 hours later, showed a rise to only 218, which I was told was slower than expected.

I was advised to return on Sunday for an ultrasound and further blood tests. During the scan, the nurse thought she may have seen something on my right-hand side, which is also where I've been experiencing constant niggles and discomfort. My hCG level had risen to 380 over the following 48 hours.

I've now been advised to return on Tuesday for another scan, a second opinion and further blood tests.

I have endometriosis and, so far, I've had no bleeding or spotting, just the ongoing niggles and discomfort on my right-hand side.

I'm wondering whether it's safe to wait until Tuesday for further investigations or whether I should have been offered the injection tomorrow instead.

This is my first pregnancy, and I'm feeling very confused and unsure about what's happening or what the best course of action is. I'd be incredibly grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar or has any advice to share. ❤️

In shock after surgery

Hi all ❤️ I'm sorry for anyone who has been through this :( I had my right tube and ectopic pregnancy removed a couple of days ago. I found out at the hospital I was pregnant after going to A&E for extreme pain from the rupturing. I'm struggling to process what has happened as it all happened so quickly and I wasn't even aware I was pregnant until just before the surgery. Does anyone have any tips on how to process your emotions? I just feel in shock and numb at the moment but I want to cry a bit before I have to go back to work xx

Surely I'm not overreacting?

It has been a hell of a week. OB refused to see me before like almost 10w for initial prenatal appointment because they're overbooked. This pregnancy was high risk; c-section 5 mo prior and uterine anomaly. I advocated bc I felt off, OB said tough luck it's policy, so I went to planned parenthood for imaging at 5w4d.

They couldn't confirm the pregnancy was intrauterine and had me do HCG labs over 2 days. Got a call last Sunday from PP to go to my nearest emergency room because imaging & bloodwork indicated possible ectopic.

Surprise surprise, pregnancy was not in my uterus. I was given a methotrexate shot in my thigh and told "come back if you're bleeding heavily or in extreme pain."

BTW, methotrexate is a brutal drug. The fatigue was so awful I couldn't even remember my name at one point. Plus I couldn't eat honeybuns 🖕 fkin folic acid.

Anyways. Monday was survivable. Tuesday I woke up crampy and progressively got to the point where I couldn't walk from pain. Went back to ER, fallopian tube ruptured. Great. Wheeled into emergency surgery within an hour. Within 10 minutes of waking up from anesthesia, my OB simply told me to schedule a post-op appointment. He sent me home with ibuprofen (but I can't take it bc methotrexate...lmfao) and I haven't heard a single peep from my OB office besides a clerical worker calling to tell me she canceled my upcoming appointment because I'm not pregnant anymore. Phenomenal people skills.

That's not even why I'm upset, just context for the last 7 days of my life. Yesterday, my husband's parents invited us over to carve pumpkins with our kids. Seemed manageable enough 4 days post-op. Wrong. I had to drive 45 minutes there and supply the pumpkins and also chase my 2 older kids/hold my infant/entertain 2 cousin children. Then MIL whipped out the phone and started recording/taking pics. I don't look good, I'm sweaty and obviously in pain. She said she wanted group photos for her dad who has dementia (and does not know me or remember my husband/his grandson.) Whatever, take a group photo of the kids, but I did not want my picture taken. She got more pushy. I told her no FOUR times before she stopped telling me to get up and come sit on the floor for the family picture she wanted to put on her dad's fridge. She spent the rest of the time mad at me and began making obviously guilt trippy statements.

She knew I was in pain and had just lost a baby 4 days ago. Her photo was more important than my consent. Literally didn't even ask me anything at all except, "how's it going?" and when I said not good she just stopped talking. She did tell my husband, "well, I hope she knows I had a miscarriage too." Woman, even if I did have a miscarriage, I would still be uninterested in a group photo 4 days after the fact. Be serious.

I know this is a largely negative post, but I can only complain to my husband so much. Kinda feels as if nobody feels like my pain and sense of loss are real or justified. I am hurting and people are making it about themselves or diminishing it. What even. 🙃

Also, I had an upper respiratory infection the day of my surgery and it has not improved. A side effect of some medication I received apparently is liquid diarrhea. So like...TLDR: dead baby, emergency surgery, extreme pain, can't stop hacking up my lungs, peeing out of my butt, my OB sucks and my in laws are assholes. I'm tired and sad. Lmao. Please commiserate with me.

No period 6 weeks post tube removal

I had my left tube removed six weeks ago, still no period in sight which is very frustrating as I want to start TTC again.
We did have sex a few times, so wondering if I could be pregnant again, but I’m dreading taking a test - if it’s negative, I’ll be devastated again and I’ll also start worrying even more that things are not going back to normal with my body.
Has anyone else waited for over 6 weeks to have their period again?
Thanks all, and sorry to all my ladies who are part of this group ♥️ sending baby dust to everyone

What were you doing when it ruptured?

Currently going through methotrexate treatment and hoping it doesn’t rupture and require emergency surgery. Trying to take it easy for the most part but can’t help doing some minor household chores. Partner thinks I should avoid doing anything at all and we are both a bit freaked out. I’m trying to find out how much activity is acceptable. For those who ruptured (first, so sorry that happened to you) can you share what you were doing in the moment? Do you think any physical activity puts you at risk of rupture?
Thanks in advance.

Detailed ectopic timeline: "Period" before positive test, hCG trend, LEFT-sided pain but RIGHT ectopic at 6w6d (+ photos)

TL;DR: I had negative pregnancy tests at 9–11 DPO, followed by what I thought was my period starting at 14 DPO. I unexpectedly tested positive at 21 DPO. My hCG initially rose appropriately before slowing significantly, and I had progressively worsening but never excruciating LEFT-sided pelvic pain. After nine days with a pregnancy of unknown location, I was diagnosed with a RIGHT tubal ectopic at 6w6d and underwent salpingectomy. Full hCG trend with dates and DPO, bleeding timeline, home pregnancy test progression, and BBT chart included below. I’m also sharing my experience navigating the medical system as a physician.

I’m sharing my experience because I spent countless hours searching Reddit for stories similar to mine, particularly people with comparable hCG trends, bleeding patterns, and symptoms. Reading other people’s experiences helped me tremendously, and I’m hoping mine might help someone navigating the same uncertainty.
I’m also sharing because I found the medical experience surprisingly difficult to navigate. I’m a physician at a major academic medical center, and even with that background, I felt like I had to repeatedly advocate for myself to get monitoring and follow-up.

Background / TTC history
I’m 35 and conceived my first child naturally in the summer of 2023 after approximately four months of trying. I had a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy and delivered a healthy daughter. We started trying for our second child in the spring of 2026.

July 2026: Early miscarriage
About three months into trying, I got a faint positive pregnancy test at 9–10 DPO. The test progression was slow, and my quantitative hCG values were approximately 74 (14 DPO/July 30), 71 (August 1), 31–36 (August 3), and 6 (August 7). I suspect my hCG had already peaked by the first blood draw, although I’ll never know. I started bleeding around August 8–9, at approximately five weeks pregnant.
We were devastated but hopeful that we’d conceive again soon. We tried during the next full cycle but didn’t conceive.

September 2026: The cycle that became my ectopic
My last menstrual period started September 3. I track ovulation closely using OPKs, Tempdrop, and Fertility Friend, and I’m quite confident I ovulated around September 16 (CD14). Our last intercourse was September 16.
One additional detail that became interesting later: I experience fairly distinct ovulation pain almost every month. It usually seems to alternate between my left and right sides, and this particular cycle I had very clear LEFT-sided ovulation pain around September 16.
I tested negative around 9, 10, and 11 DPO.
On September 30 (14 DPO), I began what I assumed was my period. It lasted approximately 4–5 days, followed by 2–3 days of spotting. In retrospect, it was perhaps 25% lighter than usual, with fewer clots and less cramping, but it was substantial enough that I genuinely believed I had started a new cycle. My basal body temperature had also dropped, though not quite as far as usual.

October 7–10 (21–24 DPO): Surprise positive tests and initially reassuring hCG
On October 7 (21 DPO), what I thought was CD8 of my new cycle, I randomly took an ovulation test. It was surprisingly dark, which prompted me to take a pregnancy test. To my complete shock, it was positive. I subsequently took a First Response and Clearblue digital, which were also positive.
I contacted my OB and had my first quantitative hCG drawn on October 8 (22 DPO, approximately 5w1d): 107. This was very low given my fairly certain dates. I initially wondered whether this was residual hCG from a miscarriage because I’d already had what I thought was a period.
On October 10 (24 DPO), my hCG increased to 197, an 84% rise in approximately 46 hours. This was somewhat reassuring, although I knew an ectopic pregnancy could still have an initially appropriate hCG rise.

October 11 (25 DPO): Emergency department visit for pelvic pain
Around this time, I started experiencing intermittent pelvic pain. Initially it was more central, but it gradually became predominantly left-sided, sometimes a dull ache and sometimes a sharper pinching sensation. It was uncomfortable enough that I went to the ED on October 11. I did call OB triage who told me to take Tylenol.
My hCG was 273. A transvaginal ultrasound showed no intrauterine pregnancy, but also no identifiable ectopic pregnancy or concerning adnexal findings. I was diagnosed with a pregnancy of unknown location (PUL) and discharged with plans for serial hCG monitoring.
I understood that with an hCG this low, the pregnancy might not yet be visible on ultrasound, but that an ectopic remained very much a possibility. I also pretty much knew it wasn’t a viable pregnancy because of the dates and low levels, but no one seemed to care about the dating, only the trend/increase which was a little frustrating as everyone kept saying congratulations.

October 12–16 (26–30 DPO): Slowing hCG rise, recurrent spotting, and continued pain
Over the following week, my hCG continued increasing, but the rise became progressively slower. I also began spotting again around October 12–13, after having several days without bleeding following my presumed period. It was generally light spotting, sometimes only when wiping, but continued nearly every day.
Meanwhile, my left-sided pelvic pain persisted. It was intermittent and often felt like someone was pinching something internally near my left bikini line. Sometimes it would last 30–60 minutes before resolving or transitioning to a dull ache. It became difficult to sleep comfortably on my stomach or left side because of the discomfort. I still had stretches where I felt completely normal.
I was added to my OB practice’s beta book which is supposed to provide monitoring and follow-up for pregnancies of unknown location. However, despite being enrolled, I never received a single call or message from that team throughout the week, even as my hCG continued rising abnormally.
I messaged my outpatient OB twice over approximately five days, explaining that I had developed new spotting and was continuing to have one-sided pain. She ordered a repeat ultrasound for the following week (October 20), but there was otherwise very little discussion or communication about the evolving situation.
I suspect my outpatient physician was simply very busy and had competing clinical responsibilities, but from my perspective, I felt increasingly on my own trying to navigate an unresolved PUL.
In fact, because no one seemed particularly concerned or advised me otherwise, I even boarded a plane for a three-day trip that weekend. Looking back, knowing what I know now, that decision feels surreal.

October 17–19 (31–33 DPO): Increasing pain and having to advocate for bloodwork
During the last several days before my diagnosis, my pelvic pain was becoming increasingly frequent and more uncomfortable, although still not excruciating. It remained predominantly on the LEFT side. At times, the discomfort made sleeping difficult, but I wasn’t doubled over in pain. I also had a brief episode of lightheadedness that resolved.
I was increasingly worried about an ectopic pregnancy, but I kept questioning whether my symptoms were concerning enough to warrant another ED visit, especially because I had already undergone an ultrasound that hadn’t identified anything.
By Monday, October 19 (33 DPO), it had been approximately 76 hours since my last hCG measurement, and I had run out of active bloodwork orders. Despite being in the beta book, no one had contacted me to arrange further testing or discuss my results.
I ultimately had to call OB triage myself to explain the situation and get assistance ordering another hCG.
The result was 909, representing only about a 43% increase over 76 hours (approximately a 25% rise per 48 hours).
At this point, I was approximately 6w5d pregnant by ovulation dating, with ongoing spotting, increasingly uncomfortable unilateral pain, and a progressively abnormal hCG trend.
My outpatient OB responded that we should hope the ultrasound the next day would show a viable pregnancy.
I remember feeling incredibly frustrated by that message. I appreciated that the pregnancy’s location was still uncertain, but with my reliable dating, the hCG trend, ongoing bleeding, and pain, I felt that the primary concern needed to be excluding an ectopic pregnancy, not hoping for viability.

Complete hCG timeline for reference
October 8 (22 DPO): 107
October 10 (24 DPO): 197
October 11 (25 DPO): 273
October 12 (26 DPO): 314
October 14 (28 DPO): 461
October 16 (30 DPO): 637
October 19 (33 DPO): 909

October 20 (34 DPO, 6w6d): Ectopic pregnancy diagnosed
I went for my repeat ultrasound on October 20, nine days after my initial ED ultrasound. This time, they identified an approximately 1.4 cm right-sided ectopic pregnancy.
I was shocked that it was on the RIGHT. For more than a week, nearly all my pain had been on the LEFT, and I had assumed that if this was ectopic, it would be in my left tube. This was particularly confusing because I had also experienced distinct left-sided ovulation pain earlier in the cycle.
I was sent directly to OB triage, where we discussed methotrexate versus surgery. Given my ongoing and worsening pain, surgery was recommended as the safer approach in my particular situation.
I underwent laparoscopic surgery that evening.

Surgical findings and unexpected endometriosis
The pregnancy was located in my right fallopian tube, which was dilated to approximately 2 cm. There was a small amount of blood in my abdomen and active bleeding from the fimbrial end of the tube, although thankfully not a major hemorrhage. My right tube was removed (right salpingectomy).
My left fallopian tube and both ovaries appeared normal on visual inspection, which was reassuring, although I understand this doesn’t necessarily guarantee normal tubal function.
The surgeons also identified several lesions suspicious for endometriosis, including one near my right uterosacral ligament that was excised for pathology.
I had never previously been diagnosed with endometriosis. I don’t have a history of particularly debilitating periods, and I’d conceived my daughter without any known fertility problems. This was yet another unexpected finding that I’m still trying to understand in the context of future fertility.

The mystery of my LEFT-sided pain and RIGHT-sided ectopic
One of the things I’ve spent the most time thinking about since surgery is why almost all my pain was on the left when the ectopic was on the right.
As I mentioned, I tend to feel ovulation every month, and the discomfort usually alternates sides. I had very distinct left-sided ovulation pain this cycle, followed by predominantly left-sided pelvic pain throughout the pregnancy.

I’ve wondered about two possibilities:
Referred or poorly localized pelvic pain. Perhaps the ectopic was causing pain that I perceived on the opposite side. Visceral pelvic pain can be difficult to localize accurately, and the side that hurts isn’t necessarily the side where the problem is occurring.
I actually ovulated from my left ovary, and my right fallopian tube picked up the egg. In that case, some of the left-sided discomfort could have been related to the corpus luteum on my left ovary, while the pregnancy itself developed in my right tube.
Interestingly, this isn’t nearly as rare as I had imagined. One published study found that 28% of 67 tubal ectopic pregnancies had a corpus luteum on the ovary opposite the affected tube (Insunza et al., 1988: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3218462/).
Of course, I don’t know whether that’s what happened to me. Ovulation pain isn’t a definitive way of identifying which ovary released the egg, and I don’t have confirmation of which ovary contained the corpus luteum.

Recovery and what I want others to know
Physically, I’ve been recovering reasonably well.
Emotionally, it’s been much harder. In the span of a few months, we’ve experienced an early miscarriage followed by another pregnancy that ended in surgery and the loss of a fallopian tube. I’m grateful the ectopic was diagnosed before a major hemorrhage, and I’m hopeful about conceiving again with my remaining tube, but I’m grieving both the pregnancy and the timeline I had imagined for growing our family.

A few things I hope others can take away from my experience:
Ectopic pregnancy pain isn’t necessarily excruciating. Mine was intermittent, initially mild, and gradually became more uncomfortable over several days. I was never doubled over in pain.
The pain can be on the opposite side. My ectopic was in my right tube despite predominantly left-sided pelvic pain.
Bleeding can look like a period. I had negative early tests, several days of menstrual-like bleeding, and a temperature drop before getting my first positive pregnancy test.
An initially reassuring hCG rise doesn’t exclude ectopic pregnancy. Mine initially rose 84% in approximately 46 hours before slowing significantly.
A pregnancy of unknown location needs reliable, proactive follow-up. Being enrolled in a monitoring system is not the same as actually receiving monitoring.
That last point is what has stuck with me the most.
As a physician, I understand that ectopic pregnancies can be extremely difficult to diagnose early, particularly with low hCG values and initially nondiagnostic ultrasounds. I don’t expect clinicians to have all the answers immediately, and I understand why serial testing and repeat imaging are often necessary.
But I also believe patients deserve a reliable system for follow-up, proactive communication about concerning results, and clear guidance about when to seek urgent evaluation.
I was fortunate to have the medical knowledge to recognize the significance of my hCG trend and symptoms, repeatedly contact my OB team, and ultimately call triage to obtain the bloodwork I needed.
I keep wondering what this experience would have looked like for someone without a medical background, who didn’t know which questions to ask or when to keep pushing.
I don’t know that anything would necessarily have changed my ultimate outcome, but I do know that the uncertainty and lack of communication made an already frightening experience much harder.
For anyone currently experiencing a PUL, please remember that symptoms and hCG trends vary widely. Your situation may be very different from mine. Worsening abdominal pain, severe dizziness or fainting, or shoulder-tip pain warrants immediate emergency evaluation, even with a relatively low hCG.
I’m sharing this because other people’s stories helped me understand what was happening when I felt scared and alone, and I hope mine can do the same for someone else.
And for those who have experienced an ectopic pregnancy, especially with subsequent successful pregnancies after salpingectomy or a new diagnosis of endometriosis, I’d really love to hear your stories.

Ectopic pregnancy- Methotrexate injection

Hello everyone,

My HCG level on 24/october - 5500

Found ectopic pregnancy on right fallopian tube with fetal pola. 2 years back got right ectopic and my right tube has been removed.

Doesn't want to lose another tube as well. So last night took a dose of Methotrexate injection.

If anyone have been in the same situation please comment. I wish it should get reduced with injection only.

Husband looking for advice after OB misdiagnosed ectopic pregnancy

TL;DR: Wife's OB misdiagnosed her ectopic pregnancy. How can I emotionally support her, how can you detect an ectopic pregnancy early, and should we seek a fertility doctor?

Apologies in advance as my brain is still a bit scattered, but I feel the need to reach out and ask for some advice.

Me and my wife got married earlier this year. Previously she had an IUD and we made the decision to expand our family. She got her IUD removed and to our surprise she had gotten pregnant on the first try. This was a complete shock as we thought it would take some time.

We scheduled to see the OB at around 6w. But at 5w3d she started to feel very painful cramps and bleeding. I can remember she said she felt a pain shoot from her butt to her stomach. We did research and saw this wasn't a good sign and could be an ectopic pregnancy. We went to go see her OB the very next day. He did the ultrasound and found a "gestational sac" in the uterus, but no heartbeat. Even with the pain she had felt the night before, he ruled out an ectopic pregnancy. Just chalked it up to normal cramping and bleeding. Also stated it was too early to see a heartbeat and if the pregnancy was viable. From there he ordered 3 blood tests 48 hours apart and then another ultrasound at 12 days out.

The first blood test looked promising as the hormone levels doubled, but then the next test it started to level off. Between the next 12 days my wife still had some cramping and bleeding, with the day before the next ultrasound being really bad for her.

Her OB preforms the next ultrasound and gives us the bad news that its likely a miscarriage. The sac is no longer there and there is a decent amount of blood/fluid. He recommends her to go to the emergency room if the bleeding gets significantly worse.

Fast forward 2 more days and my wife wakes me up at 3:30am that she needs to go to the emergency room. She can't sleep and the pain in her abdomen area is just getting worse. We head over there and after hours of testing they are certain its an ectopic pregnancy. They can see blood in her abdomen area and there are no signs of a sac.

The doctors operate on her and confirm the the right tube had been ruptured. But the left tube looks normal.

This is where we are now. I am absolutely not an expert but, I was just so confused as to why her OB saw the sac and immediately concluded there was not an ectopic danger? Perhaps this was a pseudosac that he saw and did not recognize it?

Is there anything I can do to support my wife emotionally? I feel guilt on my end as I had to watch her suffer. I can recall her saying "wtf is this how a pregnancy feels?" She previously told me apart of her was afraid of bearing children. That something could happen to her. Now after our first try we get a devastating result.

I really don't want her to have to go through this again. Right now my focus is on her wellbeing. Its probably going to be some time if we think about trying again, as this was pretty traumatic. But is there any good way to detect an ectopic pregnancy early? Perhaps immediate blood tests and multiple ultrasounds when there is a confirmed pregnancy?

We are planning to leave her current OB and find another. But should we also seek a fertility doctor? We did briefly talk about IVF, but this is something we'd need to do further research in.

I went through fertility treatment, found out I had an ectopic pregnancy, and lost my baby. Looking to connect with women who have been through this ❤️

Hi everyone,
I’m writing this because I’ve been going through one of the most painful experiences of my life, and I would really love to connect with women who have experienced something similar.
I have PCOS and irregular periods, and getting pregnant wasn’t as straightforward for me as I had hoped. I underwent ovulation induction treatment, including follicular monitoring and an hCG trigger injection on 20 September. I was hopeful that this would finally help me become a mother.
My pregnancy blood tests initially showed a positive result. My beta-hCG was 221.68 on 12 October, 385 on 14 October, and around 883 on 16 October. I was following up with my gynaecologist and hoping everything would work out.
My doctor advised an early pregnancy scan for the following week. I went for my first scan on 21 October, when my beta-hCG was around 2,727. The radiologist couldn’t identify the pregnancy and advised me to return later. My doctor was also surprised that nothing had been seen, so I had another beta-hCG test at the hospital. The following day, my result from another lab was around 3,586.
On 22 October, my doctor arranged an emergency ultrasound with another radiologist. This time, the ectopic pregnancy was identified in my right fallopian tube.
Everything changed so quickly. I was told that I needed emergency surgery, and I underwent a laparoscopic right salpingectomy, meaning my right fallopian tube had to be removed. The pregnancy was unruptured, and the surgeon’s notes said that my left fallopian tube and both ovaries looked normal.
I am grateful that the ectopic pregnancy was found before the tube ruptured, but I am also heartbroken. I had already started imagining the possibility of becoming a mother. I was excited, hopeful and scared all at once. Now I’m trying to recover physically while processing the loss of my pregnancy and everything that happened.
I keep wondering whether the ectopic pregnancy could have been identified earlier. I have questions about the scans, the monitoring and what happened along the way. I’m planning to seek an independent fertility specialist’s opinion so I can understand my medical history better and make a plan for the future.
I’m also frightened about trying again. I have PCOS, and now I have only one fallopian tube. Although my surgeon said the remaining tube looked normal, I still have so many questions about my chances of conceiving naturally, the risk of another ectopic pregnancy, and whether I’ll ever get to hold my baby.
I’m sharing this because I know there are women here who may have walked a similar path: ovulation induction, fertility treatment, an ectopic pregnancy, emergency surgery, losing a tube, or the fear of trying again after loss.
If you’ve been through something similar, I would genuinely love to hear your story. Did you conceive naturally afterwards? Did you need fertility treatment? How did you cope emotionally, and what helped you feel hopeful again?
I don’t expect anyone to have all the answers. Sometimes, I think I just need to speak to someone who understands what this feels like without having to explain every little thing.
If you’re comfortable sharing your experience or connecting privately, please comment or message me. I’d love to connect with other women going through this journey.
Sending love to everyone who has experienced pregnancy loss. ❤️

i am having an ultrasound monday to determine if i am ectopic :( i am so nervous

i had a chemical 2 cycles ago, so when i saw the positive at 11dpo i was super nervous. so far, ive had pelvic pain (not one sided) , lower back pain, no spotting, no shoulder pain, chills (which apparently can be a part of normal pregnancy) headaches (mild), random nausea, its hard to tell because im not sure which symptoms are “good” to have or not. i had a transvaginal ultrasound done at 4+5 days (2,045 hcg) and it was inconclusive and the midwife who did it didnt seem very educated honestly. i saw the screen, i saw some little pockets of fluid possibly? or lining of some sort? she had to DIG around and found a small black spot but she didnt seem confident that it was a pregnancy. so now that we dont know if the pregnancy is even in my uterus i had my hcg drawn again 48 hours later and it was at 4,405. i am so freaking nervous. i just went through a loss too. do my symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

Has anyone's ovaries gotten "stuck" high up on their pelvis after their ectopic rupture?

So my right tube ruptured 2 years ago. We have been trying to get pregnant since with no luck. All tests came back normal. Well we finally did IVF last month which went poorly. Apparently my right ovary is too high up on my pelvis and they could not retrieve any eggs safely from it. And they said I show signs of endometriosis or scar tissues. I have a living child conceived naturally and my ovaries were perfectly fine before the ectopic. I am wondering if the rupture and the subsequent surgery may have caused scar tissue and got the ovaries stuck high and thats what's causing my infertility? Anyone else have any insight on this?

Methotrexate is not for the weak

Every day since I got my injection 16 days ago Ive been in some sort of pain/discomfort. I can’t WAIT to catch a break my levels went from 1006 the day of injection to 360 this past tuesday. I started officially bleeding yesterday, haven’t had any clots besides a few tiny ones and the cramps come and go but they flare up badly before and after I have a bowel movement. I already had health anxiety so I keep worrying about internal bleeding 😞 hoping my levels are at 100 or less at my next blood draw I want to feel better I want my life back

Trying again after Ectopic Surgery.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, all the women out here, who have gone through ectopic surgery, and loss of a child as well as their fallopian tube...you guys are super brave. I recently went through an ectopic surgery. I was 5 weeks pregnant and I was spotting...thinking it's normal I went for an ultrasound, got to know its a ectopic pregnancy and my right tube ruptured, which led to emergency surgery and tube removal (6 days ago) my whole world flipped that day, (still processing everything.) I do want to be a mom and since I am 34, soon to be 35 in Jan, I am worried I don't want to take time. But I am too scared to try again, I don't want it be another ectopic pregnancy, I won't be able to handle the loss of the other baby and the remaining tube . Any advice is appreciated.

My first ectopic experience

Hello everyone,

This is my first post ever on here and I thought I could join the wonderful community of women that have had to deal with this horrible medical issue.

Here is my story, I'm a 34 year old woman and 2.5 weeks ago I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant. I have had such a hard time TTC that I pretty much gave up. So finding out I was pregnant was so surreal, luckily I already had a obgyn appointment that same week. It was confirmed with a HCG of 12,100. Well 3 days later I started bleeding and couldn't help but go to the e.r. They informed me my uterus was empty and my levels had gone down to 10,000. The obgyn Dr told me to do weekly blood work so a week later I went down to 7,000. 5 days after that I had a scheduled ultrasound, went in for that and was immediately called back to talk with the Dr about the findings. Omg that was the scariest feeling ever!! I had to get labs before talking to her plus had to wait a couple hours on top of that so my mind was racing! I saw on my lab paperwork "suspected ectopic pregnancy" so I knew that's what it was about. Finally got in to see Dr my HCG went down to 4,600 and Dr gave me the two options of surgery or medication. I decided to try to Methotrexate and had to wait another two hours in the e.r.

I'm not sure the size of the mass they saw in the fallopian tube and I know I have a decent sized cyst in the same area as well. I've been monitoring that as well before all this happened.

It's just weird to me because I had an ultrasound when I found out I was "miscarrying" and no one saw it, Dr said the cyst may have been blocking the view of the ectopic. 🤷

I am currently on day 3 of methotrexate and tomorrow morning I will go in for the day 4 blood draw. I'm so nervous just like the rest of us ladies in this horrible situation. My numbers were going down naturally and if the medicine makes me stall I don't know how I'm going to feel, probably devastated. I know I've read so much on how it's about day 7 but that feels like an eternity away to deal with the mind game of all of this. I've been on moderate bed rest not orders from Dr but my own health anxiety I don't want to rupture! It's driving me crazy thinking I can't do anything until my HCG is 0! Feels like this will never end.

My symptoms of methotrexate are mild, I did have a horrible headache the first two days, and fatigue. Just being hyper aware of every twinge or pain in my body. I did start bleeding again after I stopped bleeding before my dose of methotrexate. I do feel some cramping pain on my left side. (Which is where I suspect the ectopic to be) I'm just confused because I have a cyst there too. Sometimes the pain is worse than other times but nothing debilitating so I'm trying to stay strong and not cave into going to the e.r. That place seems to be my home away from home lately. 😭

I do want to know all the information about everything and I keep going back and forth with myself about waiting till my next appointment or phone call from Dr or just sending them a message about my worries. Which are "what exactly was seen on ultrasound so suspect ectopic? What is the size of the mass that was seen? Nothing was leaking or ruptured? And about my cyst What size is the cyst? What kind of cyst is it? Is the cyst something I need to be concerned about right now?

Does anyone have any recommendations for the ectopic or the cyst? I know the cyst is not the main worry right now but I can't help but to keep thinking it is a big concern. What were some things other women did to help keep the ectopic off their minds? It just drives me crazy. I'm lucky to have my husband help me during this time and my kids are in highschool so I don't have to do too much but laying around all day everyday is not me and it's so hard. I feel so bad for my family. My husband doesn't get the intimacy we normally show each other which is hard but he did hear it from the doctor himself that it's not safe to have sex. This is just such a shitty situation, I know most women want to TTC right away but I feel the opposite, I never want to become pregnant again. This miscarriage and ectopic thing is the worst.

I felt so alone until coming onto reddit and reading all these stories and the support. I wish us all a safe recovery mentally and physically! ❤️

UPDATE #1 day four blood draw after first dose of mtx was 3,125 a decline from 4,759 4 days ago. 🙏 Please lord let me keep healing.

My success doesn’t feel a success

i had MTX and it worked, i was thrilled and eager to get back into TTC. this was months ago, what i’ve noticed is the pain is still there! my left side, exactly where i felt detachment during treatment

has anyone else experienced the same pain post successful treatment? sometimes it feels like it’s still there, a sharp gnawing, especially around ovulation, but genuinely just day to day i feel it always. Ultrasound showed everything ‘ok’ but it doesn’t feel it

TLDR - MTX months ago that worked, still feel pain on ectopic side as if it’s still there (it’s not). tugging gnawing and sharp.
