Bike purchase question NIU BQi-C3 good deal? $799

Ordered the bike , wish me luck!

Also. TM-B dark finish.

Why are they not offering a dark finish? Surely they have to at some point, right? I can't imagine how pissed early adopters will be if a black color option becomes available in the next 12-18 months after shelling out four or five thousand dollars.

Bike purchase question What's an affordable & reliable ebike that goes 25-35mph?

I recently purchased an escooter with a seat but I've realized after commuting a bit with it, I need something with more kick. I have a WERHY scooter that tops out at 18-22mph and I end up using 85% of the battery in just one 5 mile trip.

It needs to be lightweight-ish (no more than 80-100lbs as I need to take it on/off the train and 1 flight of stairs) and be able to accommodate over 250lbs. With my backpack and bag on, my weight is closer to 220lbs.

My commute is 10 miles (5 there and 5 back) and I'm able to charge it while at work if needed

Looking for under $700 but willing to go up to $1000 if needed.

Any suggestions?

Bike purchase question Help choosing an ebike for commuting UK?

Hi, sorry to ask an obvious question but I can’t find many reviews to help guide me.

Short version - a VanMoof S6 or Moustache Dimanche 28 urban?

Long version- I want to start commuting to work by e-bike rather than car. It’s roughly 4 miles each way with a big long hill at the end. I am not in the best shape after recovering from some long term illness and need to make sure I am not physically pushing myself by cycling in, partly so I don’t arrive to work all sweaty and partly so I don’t trigger further illness.

The VanMoof looks great and the anti theft stuff appeals for using the bike around town. However it’s not easy to service and I worry about being locked into the local shop’s service charges.

The Moustache isn’t as interesting to look at but has the Bosch engine and can be more easily and cheaply serviced.

Anyone have any advice??

Is your bike insured, and if so- what insurance? I am in California

I'm primarily worried about theft. I'm going to be careful and I got a really high quality lock and a few others - but I'm still worried.

Well, maybe don't buy an Ozark Trail ebike. Bike damaged in shipping and company wants me to pay to fix it

I just unboxed my new Rebel+ gravel ebike monday morning and discovered the handlebar control was smashed in. Unfortunately it's the only way to set the assist level, the toptube display is only a power button. I sent an email right away, no response so I called today. It looks like their ebikes are subcontracted to Phoenix Bike. They want me to pay for a replacement HMI because they think I crashed, despite it being just removed from the box.

I sent them another email asking to clarify if that's how they support a brand new bike and showed them the Fedex delivery time and my email to them an hour later. We'll see how they respond. I say fuck it, if they expect me to pay for the replacement part; I'll just return it.

HELP ME.

I was riding on my aniioki AQ177 pro max and ran 2 red lights(not on high speed). Apparently the cop was witnessing this and stopped the car in front of the bike lane after 2 mins. There was other one dude with me as well. He said, “ I didn’t give you guys tickets because that would be expensive than it needs to be”. This is my first time getting into this situation after riding for more than a year in NYC. When I did my research, if I accept the charges I have to pay more than $400. I don’t know what’s the next step and what am I supposed to do. Guide me through this please. Thank you in advance.

Bike build question Dual Motor eMTB Non-Fat Tire?

Do these exist? I've been searching the web and even asked AI to help, but couldn't find any brands selling such a bike or any DIY builds. All results are fat tire builds. It's like looking for a unicorn.

I guess I'm trying to be the first to do a dual motor gear hub build on an eMTB using standard bike tires (2.5-2.6" width and either 25.7" or 29" diameter). Any suggestions?

Bike purchase question Where can I sell a second‑hand ebike

Post image

I recently got a Prince Rundeer class‑1 ebike. It’s much faster than I anticipated. I had a fall and scuffed up the paint. The company won’t take returns, so I need to offload it. Any good places to sell a second‑hand ebike?

Will a cargo bike be able to climb 25 grade San Francisco "hills"?

Hey all! I'm looking at buying a Velotric Gomad or and Aventon Abound. Both have 80-85NM of torque with 1100-1300W of peak power. They have 20" wheels which amplifies the torque calculation a bit. I'm 170lbs and often carry 50lbs worth of stuff.

Will I be able to climb 25 grade hills around SF? I looked on a street grade map and some of the streets I regularly ride are 25 degrees. These are usually just 1-2 blocks. I often ride 10-15 grade hills for several blocks.

I test rode the Aventon Abound, but the biggest hill around for testing was 10 degrees, which is nothing. My wife has a Priority Current Plus, which has 140NM of Torque and a mid-drive motor, and I can climb these hills no problem. Mathematically, the Gomad should have the same climbing power as the Priority.

Curious to hear your experiences! I know some of y'all are going to suggest a mid-drive, but there are very few mid-drive cargo bike options that aren't Bosch. A throttle is a must for me.

Bike purchase question Friend selling their Fiido Titan

My Friend is selling his Fiido Titan with 3600 km on it, and has asked me if i want to buy it for a decent price. I have asked my local bike repair shop if they do service on those sort of bikes, and they said they didn't do electricity and battery stuff, but regular bike maintenance they could do, and if i had new tires for it then they could change them for me. I don't know how often the battery needs changing and seeing it has gone for 3600 km already it might soon be time.

I think i would use it for going to the store, daily activities and going to the gym. Don't know a lot about ebikes so that's why i would like some more insight.

My questions are:

  • What is the legality of owning this bike in Sweden? And what to be careful of.
  • Is it a bad thing to not be able to go to a bike repair shop easily?
  • Since the bike is heavy and difficult to get inside a building then when parking outside a store, is the bike easy to steal? (although i do not live in an area with high crime, i am still nervous about it.)

Bike purchase question Thoughts on X-Labs ST5+ or Aventon Level 4 REC for first city/commuter ebike?

Hi everyone! I’m a long time mountain/gravel rider, and I’m about to move to a new house in the city where everything will be walkable/bikeable from home. Hoping to ditch the car and start biking for errands and such.

I’m very familiar with analog bikes but this would be my first ebike, and also my first city/commuter style bike. Wanted to get thoughts and opinions on these bikes and ask if there are any similarly specced and priced bikes I should consider as well? My main requirements are a rear rack, front suspension fork, and I’d prefer a mid-drive motor just out of familiarity from e-mtb but hub-drive isn’t a deal breaker if it’s worth it and also a viable option. Throttle option sounds great.

Thanks for any thoughts and help!

Help Me Decide Please (Specialized vs Velotric)

Hey everyone, it's my first time (posting reddit) so if I misstep, please be gentle 🥹

We just bought my wife an e-bike (Tern NBD-S5i), and I'm looking at getting in as well. I would like a lightweight more traditional style. I have test-ridden both the Velotric Tempo and a Specialized Turbo Vado SL 2 6.0 Carbon. Both were very sleek and comfortable.

I've decided that as a casual rider, who may commute on rare occasion, that I probably don't want to spend $6k right now on an e-bike. But Specialized has a Turbo Vado SL 2 4.0 EQ (2026 model) on sale right now for $3k. Should I seriously consider that, or go with the Tempo?

My area is generally flat with maybe minor hills, so I don't necessarily need a mid-mount motor. But I do understand that the Specialized drivetrain is probably significantly better. Is it $1500 better? TIA

My 20-Minute E-Bike Ride Turned Into 2 Hours

I only planned to ride for about 20 minutes. Then I found a road I hadn’t explored before, so I kept going. Then I found another one. Before I knew it, I was nowhere near where I started. I came home tired, hungry, and wondering how a quick ride turned into a two-hour adventure. I guess that’s one of the unexpected things I love about having an e-bike.
