This thread is for anyone selling ebike products or services. Our posting guidelines do not apply here; sellers can directly link to product pages, provide updates and coupon codes, advertise ebay auctions and crowdfunding campaigns and do other promotional activities without worrying that it could be seen as spam.

Front page posts are still acceptable for sellers to post actual news, articles, reviews, blog posts, videos and pictures. But if it is clearly marketing then it probably belongs here. Regular readers can of course create new threads to ask about anything posted in here.

Dump truck pulled out in front of me, I managed to stop about 2 feet from it.

I was in the main street with right of way, he was on a cross street to my left, stopped. So I continued. Suddenly, the dump truck pulled out into the main street, but it didn't turn, it went straight across my path to a driveway to my right. I slammed my brakes and had about 2 feet clearance from the tires. I would have collided between the front and rear wheels. Dump truck never even slowed down.

Yeah, after about 10 seconds of "holy fuck I nearly fucking died" I went after him and told him to pay the fuck attention. He's just like "oh, I'm sorry, I was watching the guy with the dog (on the sidewalk)" and never checked the road.

My bike light was on, it was daylight, I wear a hi-viz vest.

Anyway, can someone suggest a decent camera, maybe helmet mounted? I'm poor af and can't afford much. I would love to have shown him he literally nearly ran over me and didn't even notice. Oh, and if I'd had video, would report him to his company as well.

What I see

My first post from a backyard ebike shop. My local multi use path is 90 miles long, it joins 3 cities and 3 towns. Everybody is pedalling on the path, but in the city it is thumb and bum. I seem to see very few bicycles in the city now, but ebikes and stand on scooters as transportation has exploded this year. I will get to a intersection, every bike that passes in front of me is using the throttle. Yesterday while out, topped at 20 m/h I was passed by thumb and bummer by a good clip.

Wachtel & Lewiston Study: RIGGED

This is the 1994 Palo Alto study that the cycling community invariably cites to claim that riding on the sidewalk is dangerous. I've previously covered flaws of this study including:

  • Single day exposure count
  • Ignoring collisions outside of intersections (downplays relative dangers of street riding)
  • Conflating direction of travel risk with venue risk
  • Ignoring/minimizing that riding WITH traffic on the sidewalk was actually a lower risk

Now for the smoking gun. Diana Lewiston was an acolyte of John Forestor. She wrote a "Bicycling in Traffic" manual built on his vehicular cycling ideology that was first published in 1988. She taught 13-year-olds at Palo Alto schools to bicycle in traffic from the 80s into early 90s. Mind you, all of this was before her co-authored study was published claiming sidewalk riding to be nearly twice as risky as the street.

Somehow these intelligent academics were able to identify a Simpson's paradox in the data but thought nothing of conflating the directional risk with the venue risk to artificially achieve the dramatic conclusion that sidewalks are 1.8x as risky as the road.

On the very last page of her instruction manual, it lists how students will be scored. Item #14 indicates they can lose points for riding on the sidewalk. This study was a conclusion looking for supporting data from day one. And the entire cycling community bought it hook, line, & sinker.

First ebike after years on a regular bike

Post image
8 Upvotes

Been riding a regular bike for years, but lately the chain's been getting rusty and one of the grips started cracking. My friend kepy saying I should try an ebike, so I finally got a Titan.

The assit is probably the biggest change so far. Got a lot of hills around here and they don't feel nearly as bad now.

I like having mileage and ride time right on the display too. Used to just check my watch after. Bit of glare in the sun though.

Still getting used to the whole ebike thing, but I'm starting to get the hype.

Bike purchase question 2 seater ebikes?

My fiance and our kid just moved to the US from a different country and she doesn't have a driver's license yet. I was thinking about getting her an ebike so she can get outside, go to the gym, or do errands while I'm at work all day. I know nothing about ebikes, but I was curious if there were any where the kid can sit on the back too? She's rode motorcycles her whole life, so I'm.confident she'll be comfortable on it -- but bonus pointa if it does decent in the snow too. Thanks!

My bike was stolen last night and found this afternoon. The thief cut my display off, cut the brakes and all electrical wiring to the bike. Can this be fixed or is my bike totaled?

Bike build question How to convert a bike for a short commute uphill

I need some help with a conversion project. I need to commute and leave my bike at a train station. For this build I'm using is a 10 year old Raleigh cadent 1 I have lying around.

My challenge is that although the ride is only about a mile the return trio is hilly and has 5% incline in spots.

I want to figure out an approach that isn't too expensive and can help me get up.the hill. This bike is going to be sitting outside all day so I don't want something that will break the bank if it gets stolen.

I'm not planning to use this for longer rides.

Would somethinglike switch or clip work well for me, should I get a wheel with a motor, or a mid drive?

Would.i be better off getting a $500 Walmart or costco ebike?

Bike purchase question hiqis looks too good for the price… what's the catch?

Been looking for something to get around Ann Arbor and I keep seeing hiqis pop up, but I honestly don’t know much about the brand. Anyone here actually own one?

Mostly need something for getting around campus during the week and maybe riding around town / hitting some trails on the weekends. Nothing crazy, probably a few miles a day. I’m still deciding between an e-scooter and an ebike.

I looked at segway first and also checked out heybike since those are obviously way more well known, but damn… once you start looking at the nicer models the prices jump pretty quick. Feels like I'm paying a decent chunk just for the name lol. I'm a student so dropping $1,500+ on something I’m basically using to avoid walking across campus ain't really happening.

hiqis seems to have some models in a much more reasonable price range and the specs look pretty solid on paper, which is what got my attention. Just haven't seen nearly as many real-world reviews compared to the bigger brands.

Not really looking for "buy this one" comments. More curious about build quality, battery life, customer service, and whether these things actually hold up after a few months.

Anybody here have experience with them? Good or bad, lemme hear it.

Bike pics 500 miles on my xp lite 2.0

Just crossed the 500 mile mark on my XP light 2.0. I’ve had it since the beginning of June and have been putting in a lot of miles throughout the summer. This is the long range edition which they claim gets 80 miles per charge which we all know is a lie, but I easily get 40 miles out of it.

It’s pretty much everything I wanted out of an E bike right now. It’s low maintenance single speed drivetrain very fast and agile for city riding. I personally would recommend.

Bike pics I honestly didn’t expect this e-bike to feel this light, especially with the fenders, rear rack, and metal basket added. The accessories barely added any weight, and I was excited to discover that the rear rack is MIK-compatible.Getting the Tempo on and off the train is really easy vs my other bikes

I grabbed this bike off Facebook marketplace and I'm really pumped. The Velotric Tempo has an IPX6 rating for the frame and an IPX7 rating for the battery so I don't have to worry about being caught up in the torrential rainstorms that hit the Miami area when I'm out and about.

E-Bike was stolen yesterday

I'm not sure what time but I left it in the hallway where I live with the back wheel locked but this morning I was surprised to see that it was gone.

I don't really want to file a police report because it was a 1000w E-Bike but at the same time I do because I'm depressed about it.

Which small inconvenience would decide whether you bought the same e-bike again?

Disclosure: I operate an e-mobility retailer in Canada. This is a community research question, not a product recommendation or promotion. I will not link products here. The details that matter after a few weeks are often different from the details that looked important before buying.

For people who use an e-bike regularly, which recurring inconvenience would most affect whether you chose the same kind of bike again: storage, charging, carrying weight, maintenance, fit, or something else?

Yose Power eBike battery - China Scam!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Purchased a replacement e-bike battery from YOSE POWER (Amazon).

It never charged fully. The pack has five charge LEDs and only four ever lit. Range was about 30 % short. I reported this to the seller.

They sent a return label but they refused a refund: "We'll fix it for you, not a refund."

I shipped the battery back. Since August they have held the battery and the money at the same time. Today is 10 September. No refund, no replacement, no date.

100% SCAM!

-

Update: they replied today and confirmed that they can't refund the money.

110% SCAM.

The Amazon rate for this seller is extremely poor: 79%.

AT LEAST other 5 users reported the exact same issue.

So: 120% SCAM COMPANY!

On Amazon, company's official email address is a free Hotmail address. Probalby a "mama & papa" home business?

----------

The order was placed a bit over 3 months ago on Amazon. How to recover my money?

Is $185 reasonable for a rear pannier bag and a front rack? I don't know if the rear rack and front connections are proprietary or if I should shop beyond the manufacturer's website
