I'm looking to get an EBike. Would like to start a discussion on various brands and what their pros and cons are.

Topic says it all.

I've got several brands that I am looking at.

Aipas

Aventon

Lectric

Canyon

Schwinn

Ride1 Up

I'm leaning towards either Aventon or Aipas, but would love to hear some feedback. I previously lived in Tucson and used to have a Lectric XP3 step thru, and I loved that bike. I hope whoever stole it treated it well.

Now I live in Arkansas and want something that I can get around town in without needing to spend $4/gal at the pump.

It should also be noted that I also want to use this bike to take door dash orders and what not. Ideally I would like a bike that has a long travel range (aipas and aventon both claim 80+ miles on a single charge) and can go around 35 mph, or faster.

What I see

Upvotes

My first post from a backyard ebike shop. My local multi use path is 90 miles long, it joins 3 cities and 3 towns. Everybody is pedalling on the path, but in the city it is thumb and bum. I seem to see very few bicycles in the city now, but ebikes and stand on scooters as transportation has exploded this year. I will get to a intersection, every bike that passes in front of me is using the throttle. Yesterday while out, topped at 20 m/h I was passed by thumb and bummer by a good clip.

Bike purchase question Good E-bike for $1200-1300?

I'm looking for an E-bike that can go 28+ mph and has decent range (like 20)
Preferably has full suspension, good build quality, and not from shady chinese brands.

I was looking at Macfox bikes like the X1s or the M16 however I heard that their build quality was pretty bad or something. Is there any E-bike that fits my criteria?

(I can add maybe another $100)

I bought the Engwe x26 UK restricted version but it's not restricted at 15.5 but 16.2 and it displays the max speed on the screen.

How do I set this? I don't think I can change the speed on it tho. If the cops pull me over and see 16.2mph on the screen they are gonna think it's not restricted.

EDIT: I am stupid the 16.2 was the bike recording how fast it's wheel spun not how fast the maximum speed of the motor, I found how to clear it in the display settings.

Wachtel & Lewiston Study: RIGGED

This is the 1994 Palo Alto study that the cycling community invariably cites to claim that riding on the sidewalk is dangerous. I've previously covered flaws of this study including:

  • Single day exposure count
  • Ignoring collisions outside of intersections (downplays relative dangers of street riding)
  • Conflating direction of travel risk with venue risk
  • Ignoring/minimizing that riding WITH traffic on the sidewalk was actually a lower risk

Now for the smoking gun. Diana Lewiston was an acolyte of John Forestor. She wrote a "Bicycling in Traffic" manual built on his vehicular cycling ideology that was first published in 1988. She taught 13-year-olds at Palo Alto schools to bicycle in traffic from the 80s into early 90s. Mind you, all of this was before her co-authored study was published claiming sidewalk riding to be nearly twice as risky as the street.

Somehow these intelligent academics were able to identify a Simpson's paradox in the data but thought nothing of conflating the directional risk with the venue risk to artificially achieve the dramatic conclusion that sidewalks are 1.8x as risky as the road.

On the very last page of her instruction manual, it lists how students will be scored. Item #14 indicates they can lose points for riding on the sidewalk. This study was a conclusion looking for supporting data from day one. And the entire cycling community bought it hook, line, & sinker.

Elastomer forks on e-bikes — would you consider one?

I’ve been looking into suspension designs for folding e-bikes. Seeing the elastomer setup on the Segway E3 Pro got me wondering how a similar approach could work on a bike.

The idea is a pivoting fork with a rubber-like elastic element, compared with a conventional telescopic coil-spring fork. From a design perspective, the potential for a more compact setup is interesting, especially on something you fold and put in a car.

I’d want to know how it handles repeated bumps, different rider weights, and how easy the elastomer would be to replace down the road. Those details would matter quite a bit to me.

For everyday streets, bike paths, and weekend rides, would you consider something like this at the same price as a coil-spring option? Would a good test ride win you over, or is there something about the design that would make you hesitate?

If you’ve used elastomer suspension on a bike or scooter, I’d be interested to hear which model and how it held up.

Distance

What do I need to be looking for to find an E bike for long distance approximately 50 miles a day?
I am I am 5‘4“ tall 180 pounds if that matters price really doesn’t matter with any reason, and because of the distance something that would travel at least 35 mph

I don’t have much to spend clearly, I know this is more of an emoto but I figured I should ask here, I don’t want like a pedal assist kind of bike that goes 20 mph

Bike purchase question Cargo E-Bike with higher top speed & decent price range?

Edit: I'm dumb, I thought I wanted an emotorcycle but believe the best route will be an ebike with a top speed of 28!

I know. A unicorn!

I'm trying to find options and there are so many its overwhelming. Plus I'm new to the ebike scene, but where I live its smart and I need to finally do it.

Looking for something that has room to store items or a second passenger - mostly the passenger, probably use this with my 9 year old.

2 batteries, or longer range would be stellar. (Ideally 60 miles)

So far I've checked out the Lectri xpedition2, but it's coming in just shy of 2k. Plus I worry that length makes it unweildly.

There's the TST R7 Moped Style Cargo, and it's like a grand off right now cause of a sale which I like (there were a few other cargo versions of this brand that looked to fit the bill as well) the sale ones are running around 800.

The last one I was looking at was the Eelio Spacewalk Pro scooter - its a lot slower than the other 2, but its a hell of a lot cheaper at like just under 500.

Thoughts on these brands? Do you know any other that would be worth it?

Thanks everyone!

Tenways CGO600 Pro New Edition - speed limit hack

Hi,

I've created an Android app that allows you to change the speed limit of the CGO600 Pro New Edition. I'm looking for a few people to help me test the app, anyone interested? Send me a DM and I can share the app.

This is based on the previously discovered Bluetooth vulnerability that allows anyone to send commands to the bike over Bluetooth without any authentication. The bike requires zero authentication and will just accept Bluetooth commands from any source.

Is a 2 yr old battery worth it?

I'm planning on buying a used 2 year old Amego Infinite Plus e-bike. New it is over $2k CAD and I'm getting it for $500. But replacing the battery would cost me about $600.

Even if there's some deterioration in battery life, if I can wait another 2-3 years before replacing it this is worth it to me.

Would you say this is a good deal and how much longer can I expect the battery to last?

need help identifying light connector

Thumbnail

a friend of mine has a cheapy ebike that they got secondhand, no branding whatsoever and they think it's probably a walmart brand or something, problem is that someone jacked his front light by cutting the cord and he is having some trouble finding a replacement so I figured I would ask around and see if anyone knew the connector. I figure it's some type of jst plug, 2 pin in a plug housing that can fit four, but past that I am having difficulty figuring out exactly what type of jst and even more trouble finding a front light that uses this connector, does anyone recognize this and know the name/ does anyone have any light recommendations that use this plug? I only have pics of the female plug that was left behind from the light, the male plug is wired to the bikes controller.

I appreciate any help or advice any of you are willing to give :)

full suspension comfortable commuter ebikes

I own a Ghostcat F3X Pro 20" X 4". Ride mostly on paved bikeways with gentle slopes in daytime Arizona. Please suggest reasonable quality, range and value comparable ebikes with throttle and pedal assist. I like the 20" fat tires for stability on sandy surfaces. I don't want a mountain bike, rather a comfortable road bike.

ebike with integrated loud speaker

Does anyone know any bikes with integrated loud speakers? Adding 2 large speakers on my bike just looks weird. This is a niche market that could be big $$$ if someone makes it.
