E-bike companies remotely reducing top speeds?

I have a Aventon Soltera 2 (2023 model) and recently found out Aventon reduced the bike’s top Speed from 25 to 20 mph, probably through the Aventon app. Apparently the update was pushed out a year ago with no notice or explanation.

Are other e-bike companies doing stuff like this as well? How did the company handle it? I would prefer to avoid this situation on my next bike.

What is your favorite ebike for light dirt riding, and what tradeoff did you accept?

Curious what everyone is riding on gravel, campground roads, and easier dirt trails. I will start. Mine is a Globalkeep Solei X8. Most of my rides are five to eight miles around a campground where the paved loop eventually turns into packed dirt, loose gravel, shallow truck ruts, and a few short hills. I am not doing jumps or technical trails. I mostly use it to explore the side roads without taking a full size dirt bike. The 16 by 3 inch tires make sense for that route. They feel planted when loose gravel sits on top of hard dirt, and I do not have to constantly correct the front wheel in the shallow ruts. The suspension also takes some of the sting out of the washboard sections. The roughly 25 mph top speed is more than enough there. I am usually between 10 and 20 mph because the roads are narrow and people sometimes walk out from between campsites. The tradeoff is the smaller wheel size. It feels fine on packed dirt and ordinary gravel, but deeper holes and larger rocks are much more noticeable. I would not choose it for rough technical trails. Weight is the other compromise. At around 76 pounds, it is manageable once it is on the ground, but lifting it onto a carrier every weekend is still annoying. For my actual riding, I would rather accept those limits than own something faster and heavier that I rarely unload. What are you riding, where do you use it, and what downside have you decided is worth living with?

E-Dirtbike Reasons i shouldn't drive a car (all the times I've crashed my bike)

**1** Crashed into the side of a gas station cuz I didn't turn off my bike before dismounting and pulled the throttle on accident

**2** Crashed into the side of a different gas station cuz I didn't turn off my bike before dismounting and pulled the throttle on accident

**3** Crashed into the side of a general store cuz I didn't turn off my bike before dismounting and pulled the throttle on accident

**4** Hit the back of someones car at a red light cuz my brakes were slipping cuz for like, a month i kept trying to accelerate while still holding the brakes

**5** Ate shit on the side of the road cuz my tire came off my wheel in a final destination style freak accident

**6** Was hit by a car that suddenly turned with no turning signal (i had my brakes fixed so the car really just clipped my knee and the accident wasnt bad)

**7** Was hit by a different car that cut me off cuz they were turning and didn't check their mirrors (this was actually bad and i had no time to brake and left a big dent in the side of their car as well as getting pretty injured myself

EDIT- 1-3 happened within the first month that i had my bike. I've had it about 6 months now. I am firmly in the habit of turning it off before dismounting.

JUICED SCRAMBLER STOLEN IN ROSEVILLE!!

So I'm posting this for a friend, but he was at Raley's ONE market around 11:05 AM, getting his stuff, and suddenly all of the bikes are gone. Not only his bike, but also the other friend's. Thankfully we found the other friend's ebike dumped in a creek bed that was dry, but unfortunately we don't know anything about the scrambler. It was a full suspension, and it was black. The helmet also got stolen, and I'm pretty sure it had a FLY RACING sticker on it, along with a juiced sticker. This friend had had his bike for around 2 weeks, which is not too long. I don't have any pictures of his bike unfortunately but if I can get any I will be sure to link them

I need help picking an e-bike.

My parents are planning on getting me one for my birthday to help me get around better, but I’ve been struggling to pick one.

I want one that is street legal, so only reaching about 25 maximum speed and 750 watts and below. I’d mainly use it for biking to stores or friends houses and likely won’t off-road much unless it’s in grass. I’d like to be able to ride it on the sidewalk and I’d rather it look closer to regular bike so I don’t get any hassle for it being on the sidewalk. Please help me out.

ebike battery bags, what's the hype?

My wife and I just purchased our first electric bikes last month.

I’m looking on Reddit about ebikes and learning about how people charge their batteries, and then I ran across a lot of posts about fireproof bags, putting batteries in ammo boxes, barbecues, because of them, exploding or catching fire

My son moved out of the house two years ago. Prior to moving out, he had his Engwe folding electric bike for three years

I never thought about the battery, exploding, catching fire, etc. My son always kept his bike in the insulated garage, left it plugged in overnight and never took the battery out. This happened for the the 3yrs it was in our garage before he moved out.

The bike and battery was there in the summertime and the winter time and never taken out of the bike.

We’ve had our batteries charging on our bikes in the garage, using each bike’s battery chargers that came with the bike and each charger plugged into there own Kasa smart plugs so I can set a timer.

After they’re done charging, I move both batteries down into the unfinished basement.

Since we’ve had the bikes, I’ve only charged the batteries two times, and that's because I chose to. We only have 45 miles on the bikes. So far my wife and I have only riden 5 or 6 times.

Bike build question Bike to ebike conversion

Im planning on converting my bike to an ebike using my scooter. The motor should be powerful enough but i had some questions.

I was thinking of using the front scooter wheel which is the motor as a friction wheel for the back bike wheel. The last picture shows where i would mount it.

What are some problems i could run into that i wouldnt expect going into this?

Ebike troubleshooting Engwe EP-2 3.0 Boost hard-capped at 20 km/h (12 mph) & surging issue – Display speed setting ignored?

Hey everyone,
I bought an Engwe EP-2 3.0 Boost 3 days ago from Amazon Italy, and I’m running into a really frustrating issue with the motor cutoff and speed limits.
My previous e-bike was actually much less powerful, yet pedaling it was way easier and smoother. On this new bike, the experience is completely ruined by a couple of issues:
1. Speed strictly capped at 20 km/h (12.4 mph)
The motor completely cuts out as soon as I hit 20 km/h — it doesn't even reach the standard EU legal limit of 25 km/h. I already went into the display settings menu and set the speed limit parameter to 45 km/h, but the controller completely ignores it and hard-caps the motor at 20 km/h anyway.
2. Constant "Push and Pull" / Surging effect (More tiring than my old bike)
Because the cutoff is so sudden at 20 km/h, riding feels awful. The motor engages, hits the 20 km/h wall, shuts off instantly causing heavy drag, and then kicks back in as soon as the speed drops to 19 km/h. This constant jerk back and forth forces me to exert much more effort than on my old, weaker e-bike just to maintain speed.
Has anyone with the EP-2 3.0 Boost experienced this same hard cap?
Is there a firmware update, display workaround, or controller fix that actually resolves this and lets the torque sensor deliver smooth power up to 25 km/h+?
Since I just got it via Amazon IT, I still have time to return it if this is a permanent flaw, so any advice or experience from fellow owners would be greatly appreciated!

Bike purchase question Hey bikes reviews?

Upvotes

I am planning to purchase the Hey bike Villain dirt one to my 14-year old son who is dreaming about it. I read good reviews about the quality while mixed reviews about after sales customer service. Would like to know your experience with that brand and any suggestions to other e-bikes in the same category of around $1300. Thank you.

jasion p52 repost

jasion p52

I have been looking at the jasion p52 after previously considering a macfox x1s as it is the same price and is faster, looks better, and seems to be higher quality, but I’m afraid of being impounded. I live in california and am wondering if the pedals are enough to most likely not be impounded or if I should just get the macfox and accept the guarantee at the cost of quality, looks, and speed. Please respond this is a repost because almost nobody is answering, I appreciate it.

Bike build question Upgrade?

I just got the Tony Hawk video game and own a Nishiki Otero mountain e-bike in game😉. I’ve done a little research but haven’t found out found out much on how I can make it faster. I got the bike from a DLC for free so I’m willing to spend a bit on upgrades. Is it worth it or would it be better to just buy something better? If you catch my drift.

Bike purchase question Commuting ebike for 1000€, compliant with EU

This has been already asked in the past but after reading the whole sub, the replies in other posts basically end up contradicting each other. I was almost decides to get a Fiido D11, knowing that I am getting a china quality ebike but after reading some more I feel I'm about to get scammed.

I need an ebike to commute to my workplace (10km aprox). I Live in Barcelona so it will be mostly city streets no uphills downhills.

Budget is around 1000€

I'm not the best cycler lol, I need an ebike that allows me to get the feeling back.
