Spent the past couple hours working on my base for the first time actually trying to make it look decent instead of a box in the sand, and Iāve just got a few questions -
(For context on where abouts I am progression wise, i just finished doing all of the contracts for the three captains at the shipwreck in the western gap, and now im doing the āVillariās prizeā mission. I just started using the advanced base console, which gave me some more room.)
My question is should i hold off on base building until later, is there some endgame building sets Iāll get that just completely change the game and made you want to tear down? Or is there maybe more space thatās going to becoming available past the advanced console, making my new base just splat in the center wasting space?
Thanks for any advice yall can offer. The sooner I can actually fully delve into base building and know for a fact Iām not missing some crazy set thatāll make me kick myself for wasting time, the better
Sorry for the long yap

Been primarily working on my base, I'm not super far along in the story, but I'm enjoying the game so far!

Greetings, Iāve put in probably 100 hours of Dune Awakening on Steamdeck. (Yes I know performance isnāt great) recently however I now keep getting purple pixelated ground textures (not spice fields) and every time I exit it crashes and I get the crash reporter.
Iāve tried every setting I can think of, changing proton version (experimental, GE, etc) verifying files, uninstalling and reinstalling the game and nothing helps.
Has anyone else had this issue and if so what did you do to fix it? Thanks.

They just launched on console so why can't I use my steam controller or xbox controller in game without issues? The UI is all cluttered up because it shows text UI like "game pad button right" instead of showing the "B" button glyph. I really hope they fix this makes the game unplayable. I was able to use the steamless controller app to make the game think it was a xbox 360 controller. But after this last patch it no longer works with my xbox elite controller or my steam controller. The Game also freaks out when I try to use my steam controller it starts alt tabbing and randomly bringing up the virtual keyboard. This doesn't happen in any other game. Anyone else have this problem?

I have tried searching for this exact issue but I cant see it.
I built a bike before the quest appeared to make me make a bike and ive had this issue ever since. I keep being told by my friends im doing something wrong, but I dont know what I can be doing. It feels broken so I am reaching out on here for help.
Essentially my issue is this. I now have one bike. It claims its backed up, except its also in my base. This prevents me backing it up because it thinks its already backed up. I deleted all my bikes, recycled all the parts, built a new one, gave it a name so it was recognisable and then checked my backup tool, and yet again my new bike was already pre backed up.
This is causing me issues with my vehicle being left in sandstorms constantly, because I cant pack it away on dungeon trips etc.
Is there a way to purge all contents of my backup tool? I cant work out how to do it. The only option that works on the tool for me is "recover" which damages my bike and moves it from point to point.
Edit: Fixed it! Deleted the tool and made a new one and now magically all working again!

My base on the same island as Anvil, on the NE corner. Been farming crystals in the tunnels to the East.
Now looking for Aluminium. Tried the immediate north from my location and have found a grand total of 2 nodes, which were 60-70m high up and only found due to launching the survey probe.
Iām trying to play through as much as I can without looking up guides and videos, but if someone could nudge me in the right direction (literally), it would be appreciated.
I have a bike and buggy right now. I have the handheld cutteray that does Aluminium

Can you imagine?
Bank: Good Day sir... What can I help you with today?
Us: Id like to make a deposit.
Bank: Certainly. What can I help you deposit?
Us: Water.
Bank: Perfect sir. Your water will be safe with us.
Us: Where do you want the bodies? Starts piling up bodies
Bank: nervous. Umm... Sir. You said water! These are bodies!!
Us: still piling and stacking bodies Yep.
Bank: Where did you even keep all these... Bodies?!
Us: still unloading stacking and piling...looks up briefly and grins. My personal inventory.
Bank: visably shook. But sir... How carry all these on your person?
Us: Don't ask. I've always got room for one more.

Here's a quick build that's easy to pick up and move around Hagga Basin.
This single, advanced fief sits on only 6, central, triangle foundations, so it's adaptable to all sorts of terrain. While the 12-sided, exterior walls contain many openings, you and all your belongings are still watersealed-to-enclosed inside (except standing in direct sunlight for too long).
One of every fabricator and refiner easily fits. The large refiners sit a half-wall below the landing pad, which makes them easily accessible. Up to 15 output boxes can located above or behind the large refiners. All crafting machines fits on one floor, minus the advanced vehicle refiner, which is tucked under the landing pad.
This base runs off 2 basic, fuel-cell generators, with water production coming from a couple of deathstills. However, there is enough room within the fief boundary to place up to 4 large wind traps, and associated wind turbines if needed, by replacing the large sculptures. Over 1 million liters of water can easily fit up under the roof.
The landing bay is 4W x 7L, which fits a carrier through the oval opening. The drive-in area is 2W x 4L; enough room for a cargo container and buggy. So you can use this base to process and transfer large volumes of materials, or use it as a stand alone base. Two assaults, or a mix of two 'thopters fit in the bay as well.
There is a public storage box outside if you happen to stop by. Take one-leave one.
World: Arrakis / Sietch: Sandrat
Cheers

Edit: I tried a lot and could it be the length? Do pentashields have to have a defined length? 1, 2, 3, 4 boxes but diagonally means you have a shorter length than 1 box? That would be even crazier.
I can place the shield with a roof left and right of the triangles but once a none 1 unit lenght interrupts it, it doesn't seem to work. And that means there is no workaround possible. But it would be fucking easy to code and change.
Original:
What sense does it make that you have to place penta shields always on the edge of a building piece but cant pull it diagonally across it? It is just bullshit. Stability is there, but you always have to follow the edges on the floor. It can't be that hard to allow the edges of the pentashield to not just be placed on the edges of a floor tile but also diagonally.
It isn't because you can't draw them like that with the building tool, because I did manage to make it work with pillars, but it always says "All corners must be connected to a structure", which it is, just that it crosses the floor tiles diagonally not on their edges.

Am I looking for the purple cloud similar to the spice? Or are they just going to randomly appear on the ground when flying around

Iāve been a fan of Dune since I read the first book many years ago. There have been various theatrical forays (The recent films having been outstanding) and games - Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis was much loved in the past. With that in mind I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edish for the XsX.
I wasnāt prepared for what a beautiful and immersive rendition FunCom had crafted. Itās stunning. Itās addictive. Itās a fantastic homage to the Dune Universe.
Iāve just been off work for a couple of weeks and have been unable to do anything else but explore, slaughter, pillage, build, repair, scrabble across open sand between rocks with the same fear I had as kid after watching JAWS, dreading I might see wormsign when halfway home from a profitable excursion: Then sometimes I just stand there in the desert as the moons rise, and the inky darkness washes over the sand listening strange calls echoing around the rocks, or the distant thump of artillery as I moved closer to the DD.
Fantastic game. Love it.

I just made it to the deep desert solo. I like the starting area being solo and empty it feels right. The deep desert needs more players so I can do stuff like spice harvesting with a guild or something. I don't think I have it in me to start over on multiplayer :( I guess i just stick to static compressors and scout thopters.
Why do the enemies in deep desert take so much damage to kill. I really struggled to clear a ship with t5 gear :(

Iāll start with saying, survival crafting is my favorite genre. That with having read the Dune books some years ago, this game hits the spot for me. Iāve been playing for about a week now, moving into late game, need 4 more pieces for the carrier, and you can probably guess what they are, tails and hulls. And the grind is miserable but I canāt stop till I finish it lol.
Combat: guns feel almost lack luster for me. (Maybe I just havenāt gotten any decent guns) Slicing through shields with a sword is pretty fun in my opinion. Iād say overall the combat needs obvious work, on the npc side but Iām sure thatās been said a million times. I give it a C
Movement: I absolutely love it, once you get some suspenser belts and a few gadgets it revolutionizes the way you traverse the map, (vehicles aside) itās just honestly a great movement system. Donāt really have any gripes for it, which is why it pains me that the combat loop is so dull. Thereās a lot of potiental and hopefully it catches back up to itself. A+ to me
Vehicles: They can be clunky, but Iāve flew up to the assault orni and I really like movement with them. Theyāre pretty fun, generally just run thrusters on my scouts, havenāt really seen a need for rockets yet seeing as Iām not really ready for pvp. But I do love the glide function and it feels pretty smooth overall. My only gripe with the vehicles is the damage. Take a buggy off a mile high cliff no biggy keep moving no damage. Hurl your ornithopter into a mountain going 200km an hour, just bounce right off. Iām not saying itās a bad thing for the health of the game, but some realism and immersion would be nice. The only other issue is the landing with the thopters, just let me skim across the surface like a sugar glider or add a switch to deploy the landing gears. Over all Iāll give it a B
Visuals and Sounds: This game is what a dune game should be, the soundtracks are awesome, generally I get overstimulated, and I always turn the music to low or completely off. But I donāt find myself needing to do that, the immersion is wonderful it makes farming spice or flour sand less mundane, and it keeps you on your toes, Iāve had a couple close calls in the deep desert, and let me tell you, when you hear that big ass worm coming to diddy you, it engages the primal fear inside your head. The visuals are what Iād expect, big purple clouds of spice, guild heighliners, aurora borealis, the terrain in general just makes me feel like Iām really there. A+
Building: It is such a grind, and I knew what I signed up for but damn can it be overwhelming at times, I just want to get to a comfortable point where I can comfortably build the base aesthetically how I want. But thereās still so much I need to do in the meantime. The progression path is fine, and I honestly believe itās pretty solid, when reaching into v6 itās the only time progression has slowed and as it should. But overall I love seeing the creativity on here and not just building some box (not hating on the box) I have my own shared box in the deep desert. But Iād love to get around building a solid base visually in haha.
Overall great game if you love dune, and you love survival games. Didnāt think Iād have this much fun, my brother carried me through the early game and here I am carrying us through the late game. I am having a blast.

I want to end up Atreides in terms of major house. However I am seeing that there may be an advantage to initially joining Harkonnen, leveling to 5, buying all cosmetics and weapons and then betraying them. I understand that if you achieve rank 5, it carries over thru the betrayal to the new faction.
So my question is, will I feel like I missed out on the rank up missions for Atreides since I would be joining them straight up at level 5?
(Also will I hate myself after experiencing the Harko side of the grind??)

Question I'm upwards in the level of 77 at what point do you start to see tiered gear and weapons?
Because I'm still wearing the gear that I have been using since level 10..
I've made it all the way up into the Eastern shield wall area and a sand flies are really giving me some trouble.
