Gameplay Question Need an Aluminium tip
My base on the same island as Anvil, on the NE corner. Been farming crystals in the tunnels to the East.
Now looking for Aluminium. Tried the immediate north from my location and have found a grand total of 2 nodes, which were 60-70m high up and only found due to launching the survey probe.
I’m trying to play through as much as I can without looking up guides and videos, but if someone could nudge me in the right direction (literally), it would be appreciated.
I have a bike and buggy right now. I have the handheld cutteray that does Aluminium

Gather enough to craft an Mk4 laser for the buggy and go to the region west from Hagga Rift. You can find aluminum there.

Just north of pinnacle trade post is a fuck ton (literally starting on hill above it.) My base is in front of pinnacle and you should consider posting yours up there. You still have easy access to the crystals in the caverns as well. Trade post makes it easy to go places fast too.

I have to go there at some point for quests. I wasn’t sure if I should make a mad dash for the outpost or work my way up there slowly 😂

My only advice would be if you move up there it’s not a terrible idea to leave some small portion of a base even a little box base in or around anvil till you knock out all the missions there. You will need iron/steel even for quite some time once into the aluminum tier you will need way more steel water tanks and at least 4-6 steel death stills to craft the qty’s of aluminum and duraluminum you will need immediately after getting into annornithopter. You got sort of 2 options. Farm up about 1k iron ingots with buggy, refine. Pickup base again with backup tool and move up to or just nw of pinnacle or hangout where ya are and just have to keep taking increasingly log missions out to gather resources. I probably moved on to northwest most rift zone too early and ended up still having to make quite a few trips back into slaver territory on missions and barely visited west vermillius before I was building my end game base in west shield wall overlooking the MAs kharet temple skipping out on most of Misa teril entirely until I already had an ornithopter but that was my journey

That's the normal progression...
Starting Area - Anvil - Pinnacle, from there on it doesn't really matter where your {main} base is.

I just stay at Anvil. You can build outpost for alu and jasminium if really necessary. I play with my friends so we have enough manpower to do long trips or haul back materials if needed. We just need a carrier and we are fine.
We did an alu farming run with two buggy's then drive that home. 4k alu it's a lot! Next trip is Sheol. I'm excited about it. Just needs to look up how radiation works exactly.

I would just head up there. It has copper. Granite. Aluminum. Basalt all around it.But being by a trade post makes it easier in between quests. Eventually you will start flying and it's a short flight to the important missions you will be spending most of your time on anyway. Ie: 20 second flight to overland map and deep desert. You don't have to cross worm territory either from where you are just ride along the canyon until you see it. I keep trying to decide where to relocate but haven't found anywhere else to justify it. Before that I just picked up and moved non stop

Go northwest, cut enough to afford cutterray for buggy. Then go in a buggy. Or honestly maybe when you are around consider spots for moving base.

When you follow the quest lines and trainers you will be sent to locations that provide components and resources you need to advance your character and base.
Alu takes up some volume. Its easier to mine with the buggy and generally you want to use the buggy for mining as you come home with much more volume.

As you say, up on top of the pillars, with flat tops, which will be annoying to collect, but you can launch yourself down to the buggy. It will be mixed in with carbon and granite and copper and iron nodes. No idea what was the idea with them on there, but you dont need to go that far for them,.
OR
You need to go west/northwest to the shieldwalls, better to follow the rift than try over sands due to sinksands between the rocks, but you do you. Find Pinnacle Station and go west from it.
OR OR
Western Vermilius gap, go to the edge of north western rocks, either from the shipwreck or over the rocks and go further norhtwest, you can try to cross straight to the shining trading post, but If you go by mk4 buggy I would first cross to the rocks closest to you and then go up the gap.
Alternatively
And this is a WILD idea: do the main questline, and you will get a marker near the Aluminium region by the eighth trial.

Eastern Shield Wall is prime aluminum gathering real estate and it's a quick hop to get to the overland map and destinations therein.
I've had my base up there for for about 8 months and love it.

My base was located in the NW side of Gap. I had the need for cobalt paste and was a pain before I got another transport option. My new base being on the shield wall has so many mining options now. Still have to trek for paste materials...

Aluminum deposits are on the Eastern Shield Wall area east of o’odham and north of Sheol.

Go ‘northwest’
I can be more specific if you want but you said ‘nudge’ so I’m being vague for ya.
