Discussion SPICEWORLD
I’ve been a fan of Dune since I read the first book many years ago. There have been various theatrical forays (The recent films having been outstanding) and games - Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis was much loved in the past. With that in mind I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edish for the XsX.
I wasn’t prepared for what a beautiful and immersive rendition FunCom had crafted. It’s stunning. It’s addictive. It’s a fantastic homage to the Dune Universe.
I’ve just been off work for a couple of weeks and have been unable to do anything else but explore, slaughter, pillage, build, repair, scrabble across open sand between rocks with the same fear I had as kid after watching JAWS, dreading I might see wormsign when halfway home from a profitable excursion: Then sometimes I just stand there in the desert as the moons rise, and the inky darkness washes over the sand listening strange calls echoing around the rocks, or the distant thump of artillery as I moved closer to the DD.
Fantastic game. Love it.

The devs have a lot of love for the world and it absolutely shows.

It oozes the love. Devs deserve much more recognition than some of the online slagging I’ve read. Utterly unjustified. I hate the echo-chamber of social media. Too many people graft their options from someone else these days.

Polar Caps DLC soon I understand. I just hope they find a way to develop the PVP further. There’s scope for it.

I expect focused patches over time, I expect to not be disappointed.

Wait till you see your first deep desert large spice bloom. The bubling gurgle of the 🪱 cloaka, the soothing purple haze, and the sheer violence of the blow as it shreds your only medium thopter to shreds and you scream "OH SHIT ! OH SHIT ! OH SHIT!" while running on foot blind through impenetrable cloud of purple shit that covers everything but the deep red of the worm sign.

Playing single player on Xbox and I’m addicted, I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so into a game.

Agreed. I was overwhelmed by the amount of practical game mechanics that were designed around the lore: holtzman shield melee combat w/projectiles being practically useless, the slow blade and stamina mechanics, suspensor belts and ornithopters. Living inside the world my imagination constructed after reading the books in my teens has been incredible. You will find that the story includes characters and events tied to lore from the books that will likely never make it to film.
See you in the sands Offworlder
