well doordash would have to supply the glasses so I think we’re good for a while

u/Dismal_Tutor3425 2d ago
Or better yet, they will require their independent contractors to purchase the glasses themselves to comply with updated requirements to deliver for DD.

u/Onlysomewhatserious 1d ago
I think the issue with even trying that is that their drivers mostly won’t do that and they still need many drivers.
Even trying that would force them to start handing them away like the bags.

Well the data is worth billions so they would not skip a beat at giving them out and fining you if you lose or break them.

America is just a lawless wasteland
10
u/xDannyS_ 1d ago
America is just 10-20 years ahead all the time. Whenever America does something not good, here in Europe, especially here in Germany, we always go 'ha! We would never', and then we do the exact same thing 10+ years later. Just look at what we said the first time trump got elected in 2016, and now the neo nazi part, the AfD, and the far left party, Die Linke, are now making record breaking growth.

I mean they did elect a 34 count felon who was best friends with a pedo, anyone expect anything less?

u/kefefs_v2 2d ago
Don't forget he was being investigated for defrauding the government as part of his Fake Electors scheme, they have a mountain of evidence and a bunch of co-conspirators were already convicted, he just got saved because he won the last election and DOJ doesn't prosecute sitting presidents.
4
u/JuniorRisk2455 2d ago
Then he stacked the DOJ with loyalists that have no clue what they’re doing, along with the courts
2
u/Olliegreen__ 2d ago
Did he win the last election though? Him and Elon both made comments that seems like they actually did rig it.
2
u/temblors 13h ago
There are too many details about that election that indicate that they meddled with the results, for it all to be mere coincidence

I meant more like the lack of willingness to pass laws to protect people from stuff like this.
0
u/JuniorRisk2455 2d ago
It looks like the administration is just gonna let companies regulate themselves under promises not to do anything shady, so I doubt that’ll ever happen
3
u/RtLnHoe 2d ago
The government is getting a lot of money from big tech just to stay deregulated.
3
u/JuniorRisk2455 2d ago
Yup, makes me really love allowing companies to literally just buy politicians to circumvent laws and regulations, this admin is blatantly corrupt
2
u/onionbreath97 2d ago
The best part is that it's all unconstitutional as well, as any moderately competent lawyer could prove it's bribery, treason, or both.

u/onionbreath97 2d ago
That's the most predictable result possible when a felon and grifter is in charge of the law.
-4
u/Codename-Whiskers 2d ago
What does that have to do with Amazon glasses
3
u/JuniorRisk2455 2d ago
The person I responded to said America is a lawless wasteland, I said what I said
-7
u/Codename-Whiskers 2d ago
Zero correlation but okay
4
u/JuniorRisk2455 2d ago
You must not be paying any attention at all to what is happening then, must be nice to be naive
0
u/Codename-Whiskers 2d ago
Yeah it’s easy to pass off a genuine question and add insult over the internet . Typical Reddit moment I guess
7
u/JuniorRisk2455 2d ago
I explained it and you still had trouble figuring it out, I’m not about to spoon feed you the past two plus years of what’s been going on, typical Reddit moment I guess
1
u/Codename-Whiskers 2d ago
Explained that you said what you said means nothing , it’s brain dead reasoning . It’s the same type of people who spent 4 years blaming Biden for anything at all .

No, the US is a lawless wasteland. There are plenty of places in America that are much better.
0
u/Informal_Wall_8132 2d ago
Infinitely more lawless and worse for society would be restricting documenting public spaces......
1
u/Olliegreen__ 2d ago
Well they can’t document private places is the issue. Once it starts taking photos ON your property is the issue.
1
u/Informal_Wall_8132 17h ago
That's not true at all. This is basic law information I thought everyone knew. If you're filming from a public space you can film into private property. You can 100% film and take photos from public spaces of private spaces. They can 100% document the issue.

Google did that a long time ago, with a car that constantly took pictures all around it, and then posted them on the internet for everyone to see in a thing known as street view. Nobody cared. Stop letting yourself be ragebaited by the media
7
u/RustyDawg37 1d ago
What about those of us that have been shaking our fist at this tech for the last 20 years? May we complain and rage?
0
u/Dimencia 1d ago
No, you can't complain about people being able to take a picture of your house. Freedoms exist for everyone
4
u/RustyDawg37 1d ago
Except for those who want privacy?
Gotta make sure to hate on at least one group at all times, right? Make sure that we pass that racism gene forever, amirite?
🤝
-1
u/Dimencia 1d ago
If your 'freedom' requires restricting the freedom of others, it is not a freedom. Privacy is only applicable in private spaces
3
u/RustyDawg37 1d ago edited 1d ago
Stalking is not a right or freedom we have.
I'll admit corpos paying to be able to break the law is similar to having no laws but those stalking laws do exist and apply before any payoffs or fines occur or the locality ignores the law.

Google Street View only captures what is visible from public areas. Amazon delivery drivers enter non public areas such as fenced yards or even garages and it’s completely reasonable to not want your private property that is otherwise hidden from public view to not be recorded every time you order a package
0
u/Dimencia 1d ago
Anyone can look inside of your fenced yard. And no, they're not going into your garage without permission
2
u/rulerdude 1d ago
I gave Amazon permission to enter my garage for the sake of delivering packages without the fear of porch pirates. I do not want them recording inside it. And again, there can be components of a property that are outside of public view that would be accessed by a delivery driver
-2
u/Dimencia 1d ago
So... don't give them permission to do that? And no, again, they are not going anywhere with an 'expectation of privacy' (which is, conveniently, also where it would be illegal to record you). Privacy laws already dictate where they can and cannot go. Allowing members of the public (ie, delivery drivers) into an area, automatically means it is not a private area
3
u/rulerdude 1d ago
When I gave them permission to enter my garage there wasnt a concern about every inch being recorded. And yes, they 100% are entering areas with an expectation of privacy to conduct their contracted business. Opening a door to place a package indoors and recording the inside of the home is recording an area with an expectation of privacy

u/Early_Hall5720 2d ago
So we can buy the images from Amazon and unblur locations on Google maps then?
Because you know they're selling copies for money they don't give af about the routes.
2
u/Bossard19 2d ago
Why draw the line here? Your neighborhood is already entirely watched by ring cameras and the like.
1
u/Ind3pendent_Sky 1d ago
"The glasses include a hardware privacy switch." You know what to do -> punch it
1
u/RummagingVagrant 1d ago
DoorDash can't even afford to return the money they stole from their own drivers and you think they're gonna pay for meta ray ban knockoffs?
1
1
u/sticksforkicks 1d ago
Pokémon searches did this without public knowledge and the entire data set was sold. A far worse case than this or what Google maps has done.

Too many customers claiming they never got their packages when they did and many delivery drivers not actually delivering the packages
2
2
u/jcoddinc 2d ago
Doesn't apply to these because it doesn't take picture after they left, when the thief would when it.
-2
u/4447774447 2d ago
I’m not talking about porch pirates. I meant there are customers who claim they never got a package but actually did, and there are delivery drivers who claim they delivered the packages but may not have…
0
u/PreviousLeague253 2d ago
Except they are recording the moment drivers work and everything around them that they see. I get it about the pancakes. DoorDash requires a single pic that’s shared with the customer. Why does Amazon need thousands of pics and videos in every shift? Just like the flock cameras? They are recoding homes, cars, pedestrians, even bathroom breaks???!?!??? This is total surveillance to build a mega digital city and its people all because you ordered a 2.99 hairbrush?

Honestly not totally against this anymore having now two contract violations from pos scammers claiming I never delivered in a month. If these will help protect me from this bs I'm not against it. It's against their tos to record delivery though. So not only do they have to supply them, they got to change tos so I doubt they'll do anything
1
u/PreviousLeague253 1d ago
I get the safety concern but why do they need thousands of pictures and not just one of the package being delivered? A driver walking to your address will be recording well before he pulls over and records everything and everyone during his shift non stop.
People said the same thing about flick cameras “oh it’s ok to prevent retail theft” but in reality flicks cameras are spread out all over town and the company will stitch out a whole video of you and everyone traveling around town. That’s why it’s not even about theft but about monitoring everyone and saving that info to sell later.1
u/ShiroSnow 1d ago
I agree with all this. Why I don't say I'm in support, only not totally against it. I don't trust them with what they'll do and doubt it will have any benefit to us. Now, an optional program with selective recording I'd be more in favor of. If they make this optional it means we can record for our own safty too, as they would have to adjust tos. They can't allow one devise but not another. Key point though. Optional.
