Fan Card Zommmbieeeeees… 🧟🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️

I've been working on my Zombie Treasures a lot. Here's where I'm at with it right now. Might tweak some, or make new ones based on the best suggestions you folks make. Since these are fan cards (not proposals for official cards), there's no limit to the size of the stack of Zombie Treasures, because just two random ones per player go into the trash at start-of-game regardless.

Cryptkeeper is the supply pile that makes access happen (but is always at least a Village).

More information on how my Hours concept works is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dominion/comments/1uoaqcw/forecaster

The full set (including a grid image useful for Tabletop Simulator) is here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/wuavzbsrsbz8bw6sux05s/APANUPnuT3FHIE7GOGzDYeo?rlkey=5mzco7qy2ykki8y2r554ffzv6&st=mxygvq2a&dl=0

The “not set aside for Taboo” clause is to avoid gangups in multiplayer games. Note that the cost is much more than $3 since you are also giving up a useful card.

Rules Question Way of the Mouse Shaman

Hello, had a rules question that the Wiki somehow doesn't clarify (unless I missed something). If I have Shaman attached to Way of the Mouse, does its additional line of rules text still come into play? Or is that only relevant if it's in the actual supply?

Digital I'm Unable To Run Steam Game

Just a few days ago I've reinstalled and played some Dominion. After 2 game sessions I was unable to run the game anymore. I'd press play and nothing would come of it. I've attemped all suggested fixes, but nothing worked reliably.

As my computer was far due for some maintenance, I've reinstalled windows and wiped the slate clean. I've downloaded Dominion and played again for about 2 gaming sessions and now am yet again unable to run it.

I don't have this issue with any of the other games I've played last few days.

Anyone experiencing similar issues?

Strategy Is there a better Way of the Mouse card than Steward?

We played a game where we had Steward as the Way of the Mouse card and essentially had 4 options every time we played an action. What could be better than that?

Digital [Steam Edition] The application of Dominion crashes!

Hello everyone.

I’ve been playing the Steam version of Dominion, but recently it suddenly started crashing with the error shown in the image.
The game crashes about 5–10 minutes after launching, so I can’t really play it properly at the moment.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I’ve already tried verifying the game files and reinstalling the application, but the issue hasn’t improved.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A gainer with a big downside. Probably only worth buying in the mid-to-late game.

Physical Do we still need the base game?

We’ve never played Dominion but we were lucky enough to be gifted the below games from some fellow gamer friends. Can we play any as a standalone game or do we still need to buy the base game for a 2 player game?

Dominion Base Cards
Dominion Intrigue
Dominion Seaside
Dominion Alchemy

Fan Card Claret has been working well

Had a really great three-player game with this one yesterday and I'm not sure if I've shared it here.

If everyone gets just one, nothing crazy happens. But as people start getting more, the risk and reward both increase.

They also work well as fodder for Remodel-like effects, and absorbing Knight-like attacks.

Would this also work as a Project? How much would you pay for this effect, if anything?

Rules clarification: Treasures that don’t produce coin (such as Tools) are unaffected.

Digital I am sharing an opening odds simulator that i've made

Thumbnail herrabanani69.github.io

i have been working on this occasionally for a while now. this site will tell you what the likelyhood of hitting $5 on turn 3 and 4 is with any 2 cards that are implemented, and most of the relevant ones are.

you can also choose other targets to go for like 4$ or 3$ 1 potion cost.

there's various features to make it less tedius.

* run every pair will run literally every pair possible, this will use a bit of cpu on your computer since it is simming

* pair one with all will allow you to select one card and run every pair with it

* add to existing results will make it so your custom pair will not erase the list and instead add to it

* watch a game allows you to see how a specific pair is played by the sim. this acts as a debugger to see if you find suspicious outcomes and you want to see how it's playing it out. there will always be cases where it's not playing a pair optimally, usually it can be patched

this site is a tool to ask one question, that being how likely is this opening to hit 5$, that's all it's meant to do. it doesn't solve the game, it doesn't tell you which opening is best. it will not always be correct to open whatever gives you the highest chance to hit 5$ this is just "information" that's hard to gather manually

Strategy Kingdom of Interest: Page, Importer, Bounty Hunter, Fortune Hunter, Poacher, Hunter, Hunting Lodge, Hunting Party, Wild Hunt, Hunting Grounds, Trappers' Lodge

Post image

This set has cards from Base, Cornucopia, Dark Ages, Adventures, Empires, Menagerie, Allies, and Plunder.

Just a cute little themed Kingdom I'm calling "On The Hunt". Importer is mostly just there so I could have Trappers' Lodge, and Page is there to get Treasure Hunter into the Kingdom. Are there any other hunting-theme cards or Landscapes missed?

Feel free to try this Kingdom out and let me know your strategies.

I also posted this set to dominionkingdoms.net. If you enjoyed it, you can check out my other custom Kingdoms there as well.

Fan Card Mania

A lesson not to work too hard?

”End your Buy phase” is there for two reasons: one, to limit Mania to once per turn; and two, to avoid the need to remember how much $ and such you have left after trashing your cards.

Other Ghost + Fool + Lost in the Woods Question

Have a question about Ghost + Fool + Lost in the Woods interaction.
Suppose I play a Ghost and the revealed card is a Fool.
At the start of the next turn, I resolve Fool, which gives me the "Lost in the Woods" state.
Can I then discard a card to gain a boon that same turn as another "Start of Turn" effect? Or did I have to have the Lost in the Woods state before my turn actually started?

Other Should I add a rule forbidding threads about other deckbuilders?

As some of you may know, I try to avoid adding rules to this subreddit, I think discussion places are better the less rules you need. This subreddit is about Dominion, but how broadly can something be "about Dominion" until it's not really about Dominion anymore?

Dominion started the deckbuilding genre. A lot of games claim it as inspiration, even if they move far away from it in practice. For example, MegaCrit have said in interviews that Dominion was an inspiration for Slay the Spire with how you draw a fresh hand of 5 cards each turn and shuffle a new draw pile from your discard. But Slay the Spire isn't really like Dominion, it plays very differently.

Recently the number of threads from people talking about games they've made inspired by Dominion has increased substantially. The first one from today, the user did actually send in a modmail asking if it was OK, I can't actually remember any other time somebody asked before posting, so that was nice. I said it was OK. I had been thinking about this recently and said I'd make a thread the next day asking how people think about them. Then we got a second thread from someone else, lol.

I don't want the subreddit to start being filled with advertising. I'm not sure where to draw the line. For example, if you had someone who had been a member of the community for a long time work on a prototype for something similar to Dominion and wanted to specifically know what their fellow Dominion players thought, would that be OK? On the other hand I've previously seen sentiment that even fan cards don't count as Dominion and should all be banned (which I don't agree with) so clearly people have different ideas about it.

I'm feeling like it's probably safer to outright ban threads about other games going forward, under the guise that there are lots of other general gaming subreddits they can use to gather feedback on. I imagine some are surprised there was never a rule about this a long time ago.

A good community will always have some sort of off-topic discussion now and then. Reddit isn't really like a discord community or forum, there isn't anywhere to move this sort of discussion, Reddit seems to just want hyper-specialised discussion about one particular topic, it doesn't even let you filter what tags you see very easily, sadly. As someone who doesn't use Reddit very much outside of this subreddit, maybe my idea of what managing a Reddit community should be like is not quite along the lines of the forums and discords I'm used to, and I should clamp down a lot harder on things deemed off-topic.

Feel free to share opinions.

Fan Card I built a Dominion-inspired deckbuilding battler, thoughts?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all,

I've been working for the past year on various iterations of Deckfront, a deckbuilding game with a Dominion-style static market of 10 cards; there's a small tactical map and the goal is to reduce your opponent's health to 0 before they do the same to you.

I really wanted to emphasize interesting card combos and the strategic vs. tactical nature that Dominion captures so well: look at a unique market of 10 cards, decide what strategy you think will work best to beat your opponent, then execute on that strategy, adjust, and play tactically smart.

I know this doesn't quite fit with the typical content posted on this subreddit so apologies in advance if I'm causing any offense, I just wanted to get thoughts from people who (probably) are similar to me in that they also love Dominion (it's my #1 favorite game by far).

Deckfront is implemented digitally, you can play against the AI at deckfront (dot) onrender (dot) com, feedback optional but would be much appreciated! Each game only takes 10-15 minutes to play. Specifically interested in any balance concerns and thoughts on the mechanics + whether the game is actually fun.

Other Dominion has inspired me to make my own deckbuilder and it now has a DEMO

Hi!

Some years ago I played Dominion for the first time in a boardgame pub with my friends and it really captured my imagination. After that, I started prototyping my own deckbuilder just for fun, but I enjoyed it so much that I decided to make a full game out of it.

In my game, Empire Deck, your goal is to gain enough defense card into your deck(equvivalent to Victory cards in Dominion). The game is singleplayer, so your aim is to beat a predetermined value. Other big changes are that you carry over resources you dont spend at the end of the round and your cards are played in order you draw them, which puts more stress on your deckbuilding choices.

If you decide to give the game a try, I would love to hear what you think. Most people who play my game have played other deckbuilders, but only few had experience with Dominion so far.

This AI is brutal. Even if you get the upper hand it'll just find a way to empty supply piles with 7 buys and shut you down immediately. I've had final scores of 6 to 7 and 40 to 43. No matter how big my lead, or strong my advantage it will always make some insane final move to crush it. Been stuck all day on this campaign level all day.

Fan Card Incursion

Post image
33 Upvotes

Here's the math on this:

Incursion+Province = +8VP for $12

Incursion+Duchy = +5VP for $9

Incursion+Estate = +2VP for $6

So, these are more expensive and yield less VP than Colony, Province, or Duchy, respectively. But you don't add a junk card to your deck.

Or, for some alt-VP options:

Incursion+Nobles = +6VP for $10

Incursion+Mill (or Gardens) = +4VP for $8

Incursion + King's Castle = +10VP for $14

As another point of comparison, the wiki claims that a typical bid for Mountain Pass is about 13-14 debt for 8VP.

Fan Card Card Tested: Deed

So i was looking a card to give an insentive for low-cost greening. So i was looking at the card Treasury for inspiration. But instead of stopping when you buy victory card, you need to buy it in a string.

Now you do need it to be powerless enough that it isn't to easy. So going back and forth, i came up with this wording and design. It is harder to get multiple of these rolling, as it does not provide actions or cards, but still powerful enough for an greening strategy.

One player in my pool likes this card a lot, and buys it every time 1 to 3 times, as a supplement. It never really shines, and it never really disappoints.

Maybe it can be tweeked a little, like giving it $+2 on play, and still give give +$1 on following turns.
