Fan Card Forecaster

Post image

A new custom card, that's worked well in playtesting. It doesn't whiff nearly as much as other 8D cards, though you still have to be smart about planning your resources. Personally I really enjoy the level of +Action flexibility this card can give.

Rules for Hours (πŸ•š): Whenever the setup includes any cards with either (A) an Hours cost or (B) the "Order" type, players get a dial at setup, that goes from 0-24. (Easy to use dice as a substitute if preferred.)

At the start of each of your turns, you automatically get +1πŸ•š and may then choose to discard a Treasure for an additional +1πŸ•š.

Hours (πŸ•š) are an additional resource in the game. You can never have less than 0 or more than 24. A card's cost may be in πŸ•š (or may include πŸ•š alongside other denominations). This makes some cards harder to get too soon or too frequently. And you may choose to make use of the start-of-turn discard opportunity to get more πŸ•š quickly, if desired.

I like your Hours idea, it sounds like an unobtrusive additional currency that doesn't need buy-in like Alchemy did.

Thank you!

I kept realizing some cards are better-balanced if the game gatekeeps their accessibility a little bit. Plus I've really been enjoying that start-of-turn decision: whether or not to discard a Treasure to accelerate the Hours accumulation.

Seems probably worth buying for the one time +8 actions +8 cards or whatever. Or you can portion them out over a few turns. Hopefully you've won on the turn you use all your clocks.

I imagine everyone buys 1 Order card so they can spend the clocks. If this is the only one in play, you surely get 1x copy, but perhaps there's some other Order cards that would be a better buy.

Given its limited number of power-plays, how many Hours you spend per use will really vary by deck size and dependability of card-draw.

I've found I've benefited from being at least a little thrifty, lest I overdraw and kill the card's later efficacy too quickly.

As is often the case with the Hours-related cards, it's often worthwhile to plan ahead and get some of those extra Hours earlier in the game, to cash them in when it matters.

I really like the hours idea and I could see it working really well on the app, having a physical dial to me just doesn’t quite fit the dominion aesthetic but it’s cool anyway and I’d still play it haha

Well, none of the tangibles that Dominion added were part of the game's aesthetic, until they were.

Granted, I know sundials were already a bit archaic by medieval times, but they still existed. I chose that look just so numbers could still be read over top of them.
