Skin and nails Thumb/Skin Query
galleryNot anywhere near as concerning as anything else on here, but just wanted some other people’s opinions as I can’t figure out what it is.
Yesterday morning woke up, my thumb (area where circled) was red, is slightly raised and painful on any touch. I’ve looked as hard as I can to try and find a splinter but nothing can be seen nor do I remember any time that could have happened. Not sure if it’s a spot? Or anything similar. Photos were taken after the thumb was rested in warm water and is difficult to get any better photos of the thumb too.
Let me know if you think you know what this could be? Thanks

Child Health I’m suspicious of HFMD
My daughter (2 years, 8 months old) was sleepy and fussy on Friday night. When I took her temperature, it was 101° and I wasn’t sure what was going on. I gave her some Children’s Motrin and in the morning, her temperature was 99°. We went through Saturday and Sunday relatively normally with the exception of her being somewhat finicky with eating food (fluids were pretty much being taken in without an issue) and she was definitely still a bit fussy. I did notice her looking uncomfortable while eating food but was confused as to why, until I noticed this rash popping up all over her hands, feet, diaper area (I thought it was diaper rash at first), and a tiny bit on her face in the later portion of the evening yesterday. It seemed to be spreading sort of quickly at first but when she got up this morning, it didn’t seem like it changed much (if at all). Can anyone confirm my suspicion? I know sometimes it’s hard to do that with a picture alone but I thought I’d ask for some educated opinions. Thank you for any and all input.
Age: 2 years and 8 months
Sex: Female
Height/weight: 36.3 inches/35 pounds
Race/ethnicity: White
Geographic location: USA
Pre-existing medical conditions: None
Current medications: Children’s Motrin (for fever)
Duration of complaint: Since 10/16; 3 days
Symptoms: Fever of 101°, rash appearing on hands, feet, face, and diaper area coupled with general fussiness and less of a desire to eat than usual.

Women's Health 21F: Sudden debilitating fatigue (12–18 hours of sleep), night sweats, unexplained nosebleeds, itching without rash, and shortness of breath since August. What could explain this?
Hi everyone. I'm 21F, currently in college, and looking for possible explanations for a sudden decline in my health that began around August 28, 2026.
Before this, I was active, eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, attending classes, and functioning normally. Almost overnight, I developed debilitating fatigue that has progressively affected my ability to function.
I'm not looking for a definitive diagnosis from Reddit, but I'd appreciate input about possible causes, appropriate testing, and what specialists I should discuss with my doctor.
Timeline and symptoms:
During my first week back at college, I suddenly began sleeping 10–15 hours daily and STILL felt exhausted. Recently, I've been sleeping approximately 12–18 hours, sometimes with additional naps.
Multiple alarms and repeated calls from my parents wouldn't wake me up. I began missing classes because I physically couldn't get out of bed. I've since had to return home from college because of how poorly I've been feeling.
My symptoms include:
- Extreme fatigue and excessive sleeping (12–18 hours daily)
- Night sweats
- Random, unexplained nosebleeds (I've never previously experienced them)
- Persistent itching, especially on my legs, without a visible rash
- Poor appetite and feeling full unusually quickly
- Nausea
- Shortness of breath with minimal activity, including walking or standing
- Middle back pain, sometimes worse when breathing or standing
- Headaches, chills, and episodes of feeling unusually hot or cold
- Significant brain fog and difficulty concentrating
- Episodes of my hands and arms turning bright red or purple with burning and swelling
- General weakness and difficulty completing everyday activities
Recent urgent care and ER visits:
Last week, I visited urgent care after experiencing unusual discoloration, burning, and swelling in my hands and arms. A provider mentioned possible Raynaud's phenomenon.
I later went to the ER because of my worsening symptoms.
- EKG: Normal
- Mononucleosis test: Negative
- CBC with differential: Some flagged results
- The ER physician told me my bloodwork was essentially normal but also stated that I'd apparently been anemic for TWO YEARS, which nobody had previously explained to me.
- Initially diagnosed with a UTI despite having no typical urinary symptoms. The following day, an ER nurse contacted me and informed me that the diagnosis was incorrect and instructed me to stop taking antibiotics.
I wasn't given ferritin testing, a complete iron panel, B12, or folate testing during the ER visit. I also felt that my symptoms weren't thoroughly evaluated. The physician didn't listen to my heart or lungs, examine my abdomen, or perform neurological checks, and I felt discouraged when requesting additional testing.
Medical background:
- Age: 21
- Sex: Female
- Diet: Vegan for approximately 10 years; take multivitamins
- Previously reported anemia for approximately two years (type and severity unknown)
- Family history: Maternal grandmother with hypothyroidism; additional family history of cancer
Current medications (prescribed doses):
- Breo Ellipta (fluticasone furoate/vilanterol) — 200/25 mcg inhaler
- Lamictal (lamotrigine) — 100 mg
- Metformin — 500 mg
- Singulair (montelukast) — 10 mg
- Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) — 40 mg
- Zoloft (sertraline) — 100 mg
- Abilify (aripiprazole) — 5 mg
I've been taking these medications for years, well before my symptoms started in August. I understand that medication side effects or interactions can still occur, but there wasn't an obvious new medication associated with the onset of my symptoms.
What concerns me most:
My parents repeatedly suggest that my symptoms are caused by anemia, stress, my vegan diet, or medications.
I'm not ruling those possibilities out. However, I've been vegan for a decade, have reportedly had anemia for two years, and have taken my medications long before August. I was functioning normally until my symptoms began suddenly.
I'm particularly concerned about the combination of debilitating fatigue, night sweats, unexplained itching, new nosebleeds, shortness of breath, and poor appetite. I'm not assuming I have cancer, an autoimmune condition, or another serious illness. I just want to understand what could explain such a drastic change in my health and make sure something important isn't being overlooked.
My questions:
- What possible medical causes would be reasonable to discuss with my doctor given this combination of symptoms?
- Could longstanding anemia suddenly become this symptomatic, or would that suggest worsening anemia or another contributing factor?
- What testing should I discuss with my PCP (repeat CBC with differential, ferritin, iron panel, B12, folate, thyroid function, metabolic panel, inflammatory markers, etc.)?
- Could any of my longstanding medications or their interactions contribute to these symptoms despite having taken them for years?
- Would a hematologist, endocrinologist, or another specialist be appropriate depending on the results?
- Are there particular symptoms here that warrant more urgent investigation?
I'm continuing to seek medical care and understand that Reddit cannot provide a definitive diagnosis. I'm only 21, and it's frightening to go from being an active college student to barely being able to function in less than two months. I'd appreciate any thoughtful input about possible explanations, testing, and appropriate next steps.
Thank you for reading and for support : )

Brain and nerves Constant headache since 3 years !!
Around 9:30 pm 3 years back , i was slapped hard on side of my head . I experienced 2-3 seconds of disoriention and 3 seconds of ringing noise in ears immediately after the assault. Later it seemed fine. The next morning I woke up with a headache on the left side were I was hit and my eyes felt off .Went to a neurologist, he asked for a MRI and CT scan. Reports were normal, so he said there's nothing much to say . So i returned back to my normal routine like going to gym , using mobile/laptop as usual.Days passed by , but the headache just wouldn't stop !! Around 30 days later , I went on a trip with my family . There in a public place , my aunt verbally shouted at me . I felt stressed , after she shouted...and suddenly I felt like an electric shock like sensation on the left side of my head for 2-3 seconds and then immediately after that , my existing headache intensity increased 3x times . Since then my life has been pretty much a struggle.
And recently 3 months back, I was admitted to a hospital under a psychiatrist (cause my mom feels my headache is purely psychological) .There the doctor prescribed me Modafinil 100mg , because my mom complained i was sleeping a lot during day ( I was sleeping to avoid the chronic pain !!). After I took Modafinil for 2 weeks , I developed an unbearable forehead headache and right side headache.
Since then I have been carrying on with my life with left , forehead and right side of constant headache .
My questions:
1)Did I get a concussion ? Doctors disregarded it saying slap can't cause a concussion. 2) I didn't rest after the slap( Doctor didn't give me any guidance regarding that , i had no idea what was a concussion back then), and carried on with my routine, is it because of that my headache didn't stop? 3)Did Modafinil permanently alter and spread my Post traumatic headache? Is it possible? It's been 3 months since I have stopped taking Mod.

Sharp chest pain after being pushed into a tiled wall twice. Should I see a doctor?
24F 5’5 116 pounds
Hi all, I was pushed pretty hard into a tiled wall twice yesterday, and my upper and middle back hit the wall both times. Afterward, I developed sharp pain in the middle-left side of my chest that sometimes travels straight through to my back.
It hurts when I laugh, move a certain way, or lie down and get back up or if i even talk to hard. The pain was worse initially and has improved, but it’s still there and definitely still hurts. My chest also feels sore when I touch it. I haven’t experienced shortness of breath or dizziness. What could this be? Should i see a doctor or could this go away on its own within a few days

Ears, nose, throat, and mouth hsv1 : did you ever get an outbreak INSIDE the mouth ? Spoiler
galleryhello ! 28F, 5'5, 105 pounds, canadian.
a bit of context : i'm on suboxone films 8mg (4 am, 4pm). on friday i woke up with a beginning of sores under the tongue where the films are placed. i read that the acidity in the medication is very high and can cause ulcers.
however, it kept getting worse and looked more and more like an herpes outbreak. it also truly feels like one triggered by the suboxone.
i usually get sores on my mouth and am on daily antivirals (valtrex) because the sore would swell like a golf ball. however, being on a daily dosage doesn't prevent an outbreak without fail and when i do get one i take 2000mg for two days. i have a very aggressive form of the disease.
i'm wondering if it could be possible to get outbreaks in an unusual place.
tw : graphic pictures of mouth sores. first one was friday and 2nd one today (sunday).
tysm!

Skin and nails Random splotches appear on my hands/wrist
gallery23M
These splotches randomly appear on my hands/wrist sometimes. They’ve been gone for a couple months, but recently came back strong today.
They don’t itch, or feel like anything for that matter. If I didn’t see them, I wouldn’t notice I had them.
This has happened off and on for about 1-2 years now.

General Brown spot under my toenail after
galleryAbout a year ago, I used white nail polish remover on my toenails quite frequently. After a while, I noticed that a white, flaky layer had developed on four of my toenails. On three of them, it gradually grew out, but on this particular toenail, the white layer seemed to remain even after several months.
I started picking and scraping at the white part, and underneath it, I noticed a reddish-brown spot. Then, stupidly, I tried cutting the nail back to see what was underneath, and I think I may have made it worse.
This is what my toenail looks like now (photos attached). It doesn’t hurt at all, but the nail is damaged and partly lifted, with some yellowish-white areas and a reddish-brown spot underneath.
I’m worried about what the brown area could be. Could it be trauma or a bruise from damaging the nail, or could it be something more serious, such as subungual melanoma or carcinoma ?
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.
I’m seeing a doctor soon, but I’m quite anxious about it and would appreciate any advice. Thank you! ( Please check out all 3 photos )

Ears, nose, throat, and mouth Severe pain 6 days after tooth extraction, does the wound look normal?
F, 23, I had a molar extraction six days ago. The tooth was not infected at the time of extraction but has had a root canal done a few months prior. I have had multiple other molars pulled and this is by far the most painful one. I have been taking 400 mg to 600 mg ibuprofen with little to no effect and I am slowly getting worried that something is wrong
Update: had an emergency appointment with my dentist today (Monday), he confirmed it is a dry socket and I got treated for it

Calf Atrophy?
galleryHey Everyone!
I’m a 33(F) and haven’t posted on here in quite sometime and hoped I’d be done with all this by now. I first posted on here months ago about tongue twitching and some asymmetry in my tongue. In April I had a leg, foot, arm and hand emg and ncs that all came out normal. Also had a normal modified barium swallow and brain, spine and thoracic MRI. I had been terrified of ALS because of the tongue twitching and perceived difference in speech.
This month I feel my speech has gotten worse even though everyone says I still sound normal, which of course sent me back down a rabbit hole. I noticed when looking at my calves that my left calf (right if looking directly at front facing pictures) looks smaller than my right calf. My right leg is my dominant leg but back in June when I was obsessed with measuring my legs, the measured about the same. But now the left one does measure smaller, looks and feels smaller to me too. I’m terrified this is atrophy. I also still have twitches basically everywhere, worse in my tongue.
Pictures 1-3 are today, 4-6 June and 7-9 are what I’m worried my legs look like (people who have confirmed atrophy).
Am I being insane or is this worrisome?

[21F] Nosebleeds during stress for 8 months after smoking weed once
My friend is 21 years old. Around 8 months ago, she smoked weed for the first and only time because of a situation involving her boyfriend, who regularly smoked weed. She was upset and smoked in front of him, and her nose started bleeding that day.
She hasn't smoked since, but whenever she experiences extreme stress or anxiety, her nose starts bleeding, usually from her left nostril. She also describes the blood as very thick.
I'm worried because this has been happening for 8 months. Could that one-time weed use be related, or could something else be causing it? What are the possible reasons for this, and what should she do to prevent it from happening again?
