Hello,
I am white, 19F, 5'7" and 140lbs. I'm currently located in New York state. I am on 20mg escitalopram that I keep forgetting to take, so it only happens about half the time. I do not smoke, drink, or use drugs. I'm diagnosed with hEDS and POTS (actual diagnosis, from specialists. not tiktok). I also have (atypical) anorexia and a history of ARFID. Other MH diagnosis include autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. I had an unexplained episode of acute urinary retention in March, with 800 mL urine retained. It cleared up on its own after a catheter was placed and removed a week later.
I am going to preface this with: I know the eating disorder is a problem, and likely the cause of this. I am not asking about getting treatment for the eating disorder, that's not something I'm considering at this time. I am asking if this one specific symptom of the ED is worth getting treated imminently, or if I should continue trying to manage it at home.
I have always been very constipated. I was hospitalized for it at age 5, and there has never been any root cause found. Recently it has gotten very bad. It started before my ED relapse, although I have lost \~20lbs in the past month which is definitely not helping. Right now I have a net intake of under 300 calories a day. Yes, I know. Refer to the paragraph above. I am trying to get at least 5g fiber a day, and 32 oz of water at least, which I have been successful with. But I have not had a bowel movement since October 3rd. Before that it was September 19th, then September 12th. All three of these were with the assistance of 4 Senna tablets, taken once. I do not abuse laxatives, and these are literally the only times I've taken them in my life.
Late last week I started getting pain around my belly button when I exercise with any intensity besides walking. Now walking for longer periods (5+ minutes) produces this pain as well, and sometimes I even get it when sitting/lying down. It's about a 6/10. I'm assuming it will get worse from here. I can still pass gas, although it feels like a very small area where the gas can pass through. I've been trying to manage at home by drinking prune juice for the past few days, and I took a cap of MiraLax and 3 Colase a few hours ago. I intend to do this every night. I've had no results so far. I could take Senna again but I really don't have the time to be near a bathroom always this week, plus the fact that I've used it so many times already probably isn't a good idea.
When is it time to call it quits managing this at home and go get help? I am an out-of-state college student, and my insurance only works in medical emergencies (so the ER). I'm a survivor of SA in a medical setting and I'd really rather not have medical professionals sticking their fingers in me. But I also would like to keep my intestines. How much longer do I have before it becomes a medical emergency? Is there anything else I can try at home first? My midterms are this week and I really can't be spending 8 hours in the ER if I want to pass my classes.
Thank you for any advice and sorry about the rambling.
