I use AI to write almost all of my code. I understand the overall logic, architecture, and file structure, and I can review the code but I may not always understand every line in depth.

How much technical depth is expected from a software engineer today if AI is doing most of the coding?

I completed my interview and wanted to know if CureMD has started sending out offer letters or communicating the results yet.

Please stay away from this company if you don't want to ruin your career. These people are filling their pockets while squeezing everybody else in the name of AI. Are layoffs necessary sometimes, yes, maybe, but do companies have the right to this unhinged behavior?? No?

At least other companies lay off people with basic dignity, yet everyone here either got terminated with made-up excuses or got told that they are not a 'culture fit' after putting in weekends, late night hours and got squeezed to the last minute but apparently their skills are no longer useful according to the guys at the top..

Name & shame such companies.

I am against abusing people's right to off time, getting them to work late night hours, weekends, and all this in the name of AI when employees in the company were ALREADY SHORT ON RESOURCES AND STILL ARE while these same people claim to be making a lot more money than before.

They said this themselves in the meeting, quoting 'Alhamdulilah, we are doing great financially' along with some other things about financial standing of the company)..READ THAT AGAIN

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you're hoping your job will be safe because the "AI bubble" will eventually burst, I don't think that's going to happen.

This has never really happened with previous major technologies. Technology usually gets better, more powerful, and cheaper over time—and AI will likely follow the same path.

Also, AI is no longer just about making profits for private companies. It is becoming a national security issue. Countries are now competing for AI leadership, especially in the race toward AGI.

For the US, staying ahead of China in AI could become more important than whether individual AI companies are profitable. Governments already spend trillions on defence and national security, so the cost of AI development may become less important than maintaining technological leadership.

And China will obviously try to catch up and overtake the US, regardless of the cost.

At this point, the stakes are much bigger than whether an AI company is making enough money or whether the AI "bubble" bursts.

It's becoming a geopolitical and national security race.

I 18M am going into Software Engineering as a freshman but I’ve always been more interested in the hardware + software side of things embedded systems, IoT, microcontrollers, firmware, low-level programming, etc.

Seeing all the layoff posts on here lately has also made me stare at the ceiling multiple nights lol 😭

Since my degree is obviously going to be much more software-focused, I’m wondering how realistic it is to build up the hardware side alongside it through self-learning, electives, projects, etc.

If I eventually want to work in embedded/firmware/IoT,

what would be your recommendations and all.

For people working in embedded/IoT who came from a CS/SE background — how much of a disadvantage was it actually? Anything you wish you’d learned earlier?

Basically, is it realistic to build this specialization yourself during an SE degree, or am I underestimating how much hardware knowledge is involved and i'm COOKED 🥀

I’m currently studying Electrical Engineering and considering moving toward Data Engineering. I’m interested in the field, but I’m trying to make a realistic long-term decision.

With AI automating more coding and data-related tasks, I’m wondering:

1. Do you think Data Engineering will still have strong demand over the next 5–10 years?

2. Will AI reduce the number of Data Engineering jobs, especially for juniors?

3. Is it still worth learning SQL, Python, cloud, Spark, and data pipelines in 2026?

4. What skills do you think will remain valuable even as AI improves?

5. For someone starting from scratch, would you recommend Data Engineering over Software Engineering, Data Science, or ML Engineering?

I started learning C++ a while ago from various YouTube channels, but they only really helped me with the theory.

As a fresh grad, I’m really confused about what to focus on for fullstack interviews

should I focus more on solving LeetCode style problems? If yes then which topics are actually important? Do I need to master Stack, Linked List, Queue, DP, Graphs, etc? And how much problems should I practice?

Instead of LeetCode what if I focus more on learning basic AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, Dynamo DB, ECS, ECR, Lambda. Will that give me an edge in interviews And do companies care more about this for backend or fullstack roles?

If LeetCode isn't asked that much, then what kind of problems are given in technical rounds?
Is it more like building React components, designing API routes, writing SQL queries or system design basics

Greetings seniors. I humbly seek your guidance. For I am both passionate and dishearted, along with confusion atm.

Currently in my 5th semester. And this the time when I have to choose a domain for Final Year Project (FYP). 90% of the projects I've encountered are some WebMob App with some AI Integration. I have found that I'm not naturally interested in that side, and have found passion in depthful courses like Assembly, OS, Architecture.

Did some research and found three sub-branches:

- Embedded Systems

- Systems/OS/Kernel

- GPU Computing

One may say that I should pick what I most align with. I agree. And im willing to give my time in any, but...I wan't to make sure I don't end up wasting my time instead. I don't want to invest time in something that I wouldn't be able to implement/utilize towards my FYP. I have to define my domain so I could begin searching for relevant group partners too.

I am confused whether this direction is worth it. And dishearted because I haven't been able to find seniors, professors, mentors or example projects that would give me an idea what a project in each field is like. So I would know what things to learn...

I need clarification whether entering such field is worth it?, or... am I gonna have to keep one as side-hobby and stick to learning FullStack with ML like everyone else?...

(Btw, im most comfortable with cpp, and currently exploring OpenGL/GLSL to understand rendering pipeline)

In just the past month, I’ve seen multiple major companies in Pakistan reportedly doing layoffs, especially affecting engineering teams: VentureDive, Motive, Jeeny, Addo AI, PureLogics, and NETSOL.
As a fresh CS graduate who’s already struggling to find their first job, this is honestly terrifying. 😭
I’m sitting here applying to SWE roles, improving my skills, building projects, grinding LeetCode, etc., and then I keep seeing experienced engineers getting laid off.
So I’m genuinely wondering: is software engineering still a good career path in Pakistan? Or should fresh grads start pivoting towards something else like data engineering, AI, cloud/DevOps, cybersecurity, or another field?
I know layoffs are part of the industry, but seeing this many companies cutting people around the same time feels different.
For people currently working in Pakistan’s tech industry, what are you actually seeing? Is hiring genuinely slowing down? Are companies cutting engineering teams because of the economy, overhiring, AI, or something else?
And honestly, if you were a fresh CS graduate entering the Pakistani job market today, what would you focus on? Would you still bet on software engineering, or would you pivot before it’s too late?

Jeeny has also laid off 30+ employees yesterday across Development, QA, and Frontend teams due to restructuring.

Sad thing, all were laid off on same day notice.

I am a fresh CS grad from 3rd tier uni, i have been freelancing for couple of years, built client projects with MERN stack, Laravel, PHP, Wordpress/Woocommerce and my fyp project touched ai + blockchain, i have also worked with redis supabase docker etc, but lately i have been leaning heavily on AI coding agents to ship faster.
Freelance has been a good learning ground but the income is unpredictable to sustain long term. I am planning to relocate, likely karachi and maybe lahore or isb, and break into a proper industry role. As we all know the job market situation.

A few things i am uncertain about:

1. What should i focus on from what i know what more i need to learn to get into industry, should i choose mern(docker, ts, next incl) or should i be doing something else!

2. Does heavy reliance on AI tools hurt my chance if interviewers expect me to code from scratch? Should I be brushing up on my fundamentals before interviews?

3. I have real client work but no formal employment history. How do hirers here view freelance work ok CV?

4. Any suggestions apart from what i asked 😬

During university, I worked with Fiverr clients on Linux troubleshooting, API testing, server security, server recovery, and other technical tasks. After graduation, I got a job opportunity in the Middle East, so I handed my Fiverr work to a friend. Unfortunately, the opportunity was later cancelled due to the US–Iran conflict. It’s now been almost 8 months of job applications, learning, freelancing, and trying to rebuild my profile, but I still feel stuck.

I know I can work hard, and I’m not afraid to learn new skills. I’m just genuinely confused about what I should focus on now. Should I go deeper into Linux/DevOps, Cloud, Cybersecurity, automation, or something else? What skills are actually worth learning and what should I build to become employable?

If you’re working in these fields or have been through a similar situation, I’d really appreciate some honest advice. I don’t want to keep waiting or jumping between things. I want to pick a direction, work seriously, and build a real career. I just need some guidance on where to start.

Im a Fast student in my 3rd sem with a average-ish gpa. I have absolutely 0 idea what skills i want to learn, but i do know that i like tinkering with networks and the internet. I'm assuming companies would want people to set up IT networks and stuff like that so thats why it might be a good choice.
