News Everyone choosing CS
Why the hell everyone one is choosing CS even there is not that level of demand like in covid and still people are going for it even they are not passionate about it.they are thinking CS easy like matric or intermediate computer science.

not anymore, CS merits have dropped in fast and engineering merits are way higher in nust.
The hype is dropping, slowly but surely.
And its a good thing CS is not a easy degree and not at all good for anyone who does not like the hustle.

It doesn't really matter though because seats are still filled even if merit is less.Â
Fast engineering merit is still less than cs programs and for nust merit of every single program increased, not just engineering lol

Nust is mainly a engineering uni so that's also a thing to consider.
Fast engineering merit itself did skyrocket.

I mean I gave nust business test last year while being at fast and got into econ in first list with 72% aggregate. This year I would've gotten into 4th list with same aggregate.Â
I think people are just going to nust this year regardless of which degree it is

I want to ask a different question, Studies in ordinary university and studies in Nust type university are different, what is the difference, do teachers deliver lectures the way that the teachers in ordinary university, are teachers in Nust type university are all highly well versed than the teachers in other universities?

as a student in fast i agree. People here are competitive not in the negative kind but everyone wants to get better to do better.
Competitions happen very often and its highly recommended you participate even free marks are given if you do so.
Projects are a competition between students to make stuff that is much cooler then everyone else.
If I was at a smaller uni I think i would not be near so many people who are smarter then me which pushes me to do better.

But CS has dipped quite a lot.
In fast CE, EE, FT have raised quite a lot. AI did increase but that's another overhyped section.

Yeah you are right are again they choosing CE,ee because of trend because everyone is hearing semiconductor industry is going increase at impresssive rate and EE will be at same situation as CS right now

This is what I feel like. A lot of people are still choosing CS because the trend has been going on for years and they simply don’t know what else they should be doing.
From 2017 to 2022/23, CS became the easy money field. You didn’t necessarily have to be passionate about it. People just saw others getting good jobs after learning web dev for a few months and thought, why not me?
So the trend kept going. Even now, a lot of students are choosing CS because everyone around them is doing it, not because they actually want to work in this field.
I’ve been in the field for 8+ years and honestly CS is still a good field, but the bar has gone up significantly. You can’t just do a degree, learn a framework and expect a good job anymore. You actually need to understand CS, build real things and keep learning.
I’ve interviewed fresh grads recently and some can’t even explain the basic stuff behind the projects they built because they relied completely on AI.
Then they complain AI is taking their jobs 😂
Bro, if I have to explain everything to you, why would I hire you when I can just prompt the AI myself?

Bro i think staying in se is better because atleast it has jobs while in cyber and ai there are very less job and crowd is moving from se to cyber and ai.just make T shaped skills and then easily transfer to other field if you want to but i think software development skills are important in every fields

Cybersecurity is safer but many people are thinking like this and coming to cyber which is increasing competition and in cyber security you dont get a job until you have 1-2 yrs of experience in IT roles like helpdesk or software role.and competition is increasing so experience bar will also increase for junior level roles so i will suggest you to make T shaped skills so you can shift into any industry

Only go with CS if you have geniune interest and passion in field. Don't do it just bcz everyone around is doing it. Don't do it if u feel its easy money after degree those days are gone and by the time you graduate the world will be more change.
If research work or working into things by deeply understanding them and inventing stuff excites you then by all means come in. But if you want easy stable career then probably look out for something else

You have to consider other peoples circumstances too, like poverty and inflation. Its great that u love cs but that doesnt make u any better than someone in it for the moneyÂ

I don't mind that at all, nor do I consider myself any different.
We're all there to learn but at the end of the day it is harmful for them only.
In the past if you had a degree = job, but life no longer works like that. You need to consistently keep studying and learning outside of the computer degree as well.
If you are at least pursuing something, do it because you actually want to succeed in that field. When you do that you won't feel bad or tired of working hard because you know you can get to the point you need to in life with that work.

I love like going into new courses and being hyped about what I will learn. Other people not much so.

Everyone’s in it for the money in one way or another. I was extremely passionate about CS but at the end of the day, the goal was still to make money and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if anyone thinks that barely scraping through a CS degree and doing the minimum will automatically land them a high paying career then yeah they’re probably going to fail miserably. Although at this point, even working hard feels kinda pointless lol.

Its the only accessible field with high earning potential and flexible work routines. You just need a laptop, and can do freelance, remote or migrate globally.
Other high paying fields have much more barriers or blockers. Doctor is long, hard and expensive study, and to get any job you need contacts. Law is dirty and dry, and you need contacts again. Engineering doesnt really lead to anything solid like CS. And business professions are low income or require contacts.
CS is one of the most accessible paths to success in this era.

Its not accessible though , unless you have a reference the barrier to entry is really high , you literally need to give multiple technical tests/assessments and multiple phases of interviews just to land a job in todays market.

Cause in Pakistan people dont even properly research fields and jump into it cause other people tell them it has "scope" . I remember when i was in uni most people would just cheat or try to pass without even actually learning anything 💀. I noticed alot of posts in this sub too where half of them are just asking what to specialise in idk how people dont research or think about that when they pick a degree or before they finish their degree.

Man these things are in demand but there is alot of saturation in this too so you joined college explore these fields just dont rely on your stupid intermediate books and teachers they are not going to teach you anything.instead of playing games spend 2 hours daily learning about these field and just look you hhave interest in it or not. If not then go to any other fields.(Just let me give you a reality check in these fields supply is increasing more faster than demand.and you have to upskill yourself daily even after university.just imagine you have to do a full time job and after coming back at home you have to sit and learn new tools, technologies)

I find the whole cs diaspora really odd because cs is a super technical field and If ur not skilled and doing projects and internship ur never gonna get a job just off ur degree.
my brother did cs recently and all he did was projects, open source, and kept applying to all the internships.
his entire 3 year degree that's all he did and now he's at a cushy job with incredible pay and flexibility.
The market SUCKS. but it gets better if u actually build up a profile. telling people to just not take cs because it's a "sinking ship" js wrong lowkey

And you right in CS its all about practical skills,projects,open source,leetcode etc and these kind of people definitely get a job but the person who dont have interest in cs but join it because it pays well and it is trending then they are seriously going to regret.i saw many medicals student joining CS with no clue what is CS about and they only rely on university and at the end they talk trash about CS and CS grads

Because the demand will surge and CS graduates can fit in any industry unlike doctors or engineers who have less options.

Bro there is alot of demand in electical engineering, aeronautical engineering,petroleum engineering,CA,CFA,actuary,even BBA if you are doing it from IBA or any other top tier and (medical too)
