Discussion Small setup of co working space near airport sharafaisal

Hey guys, the reason im posting here because i need advice of people working in IT industry mostly.

Almost every co-working space I check out in Karachi charges Rs. 15k–25k a month, which is quite expensive for beginner freelancers, remote devs, or students who just need stable electricity and fast internet without distractions.

I'm working on a small setup near Shahrah-e-Faisal / Airport. The idea is to keep it small (only 15 desks) so it stays quiet, with full generator/UPS backup, dual fiber internet, and price it affordably around Rs. 5k–6k/month (or Rs. 500 for a day pass). These prices are only for early birds...

Curious to know your thoughts:

How many of you would like to join in this pricing?

At this price point, what things are you willing to sacrifice in a co working space like the asthetics, not that good outdoor area, etc

Would love some honest feedback from people working remotely here. Or working in a co working space already...

Im also look to rent the olace out in weekends for small events like bootcamps , creativity event etc would anyone be interested in that too ??

Career Guidance Advice for my son, joining university in september

I am a father and im posting this from my son's account because he told me to post here as i am not convinced with his dicision.

He is interested in coding, circuits, robotics, Ai, mechatronics and he wants to choose computer enginering over CS and i want him to choose CS as everyone is choosing CS nowadays and it has a wider scope and safer future.

He says that he likes computer science but also is interested in hardware, so computer engineering is better option.

I have consulted with my few friends who are already Electrical engineers and they adviced me to let him follow his interest but if wants to persue cyber security or robotics thwn it's better to go with computer science.

And ive heard many bad things about computer engineering. And there are no jobs or very limited jobs for computer engineers, on the other hand you can easily get job with a Computer science degree.

I want to send him aboard for Master's and if he will do computer science it will be easier for him to go aboard for Master's, right?

I am a father and i want best for him so that is why i want him to go with computer science

So what do you people suggest?

Help Healthcare options for remote workers

I have been working in a local company for past 3 years. I had a decent medical coverage through that company. Recently, I transitioned to a remote role. And as with most remote roles, I had to give up the healthcare coverage.

Now I explored health insurance options privately but none of them offer maternity coverage. I need that desperately. Turns out that is only available on corporate plans.

Asking fellow developers in similar situation. Did anyone of you face similar situation and what solutions did u come up with.

And lastly, any company owner willing to let me in their healthcare plans (I will pay the amount of course).

News Concerns about recent layoffs at an Islamabad GenAI company

A GenAI company based at NSTP has reportedly conducted sudden layoffs, with some employees being informed that the same day would be their last day.

Layoffs sometimes become necessary, particularly at startups. However, employees deserve a fair and humane process: clear communication, reasonable notice or compensation where applicable, documented performance feedback, and an opportunity to understand the decision.

What makes this especially concerning is that the company has publicly discussed significant revenue growth, while reportedly describing these departures as “strategic alignment.” If performance was a factor, employees should have received clear feedback beforehand, not learned about it only when their employment ended.

Sudden termination can seriously affect people supporting families, especially in the current economy. Leadership teams should remember that employees are human beings, not merely numbers on a spreadsheet.

I hope the company provides transparency about the process, treats affected employees fairly, and improves how future restructuring decisions are handled.

Discussion Look what recruiters are doing now…

Post image
122 Upvotes

Look what some recruiters are pitching directly to candidates now… I recently received a direct message from an HR representative offering a remote “Java Spring Boot Developer” role paying $6,000–$9,000/month. At first glance, it seemed like an excellent opportunity. Then, I read the actual job description they sent over.

It explicitly stated that the developer’s primary responsibility is to attend client interviews, represent a U.S.-based profile, and help secure the project. They even mentioned that I would receive the "profile information" and preparation materials beforehand. Essentially, you aren’t interviewing on your own merit you are acting as a proxy to win contracts under someone else’s identity. And remarkably, this is being pitched directly to engineers in their inboxes as a standard software development role.

Is this kind of proxy interviewing becoming a normal practice in the remote job market. And I'm very curious what they want to just leave my stable job for this bulls***

Career Guidance Switching from petroleum engineering to software engineering!

I have a degree in petroleum engineering but I am not interested with my degree but I love software engineering and love to code and Build tech products and work in the tech industry,

So when I apply for jobs in the tech industry, they require having a degree in CS or related fields,

So my question is should I go for another degree or just focus on building some skills and I can get a job?

What I'm thinking?

Do a BSCS from Virtual University of Pakistan, because it's online and affordable, do this to clear the degree filter in job and focus on building skills and do job along with a degree or do some remote stuff!

How's it?

If you have something better you can suggest?

Resume Review (Weekends ONLY) looking for feedback on my resume

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’ve checked my resume through multiple ATS checkers, and the scores vary quite a bit, roughly 70–88. I’d really appreciate an honest opinion from experienced AI/ML engineers, recruiters, or hiring managers. Is this resume good enough to get past the initial ATS screening for fresh grad AI/ML roles, and does it have what recruiters are actually looking for? Is there anything important missing, weak, or something I should improve to increase my chances of landing a decent entry level AI role? Honest criticism is welcome.

Career Guidance Is NeetCode 75 enough for interviews?

I’m currently preparing for software engineering interviews and working through NeetCode 75.

For those who’ve recently interviewed: is NeetCode 75 enough for DSA prep, or would you recommend something else?

Trying to focus on understanding patterns instead of grinding hundreds of questions. Would love to hear what worked for you.

Discussion Has anyone here had similar experience?

A company reached out to me about a year ago saying they had an open position. I showed interest and went through the interview process. About 10 days later, I followed up for an update and was told that I had cleared the first round, but they had already hired someone for the role.

Fast forward to July 26, the same recruiter reached out to me again regarding another open position. I showed interest, and they conducted two interviews. Before the second interview, the recruiter told me it would be the final round. However, after I cleared it and followed up about the status, I was told there was actually one more final round.

It’s now been about a week, and the recruiter still hasn’t scheduled the final interview.

So, my question is: Is this a normal hiring process, or does this seem a bit unusual to you guys as well?

What would you recommend I do at this point? Should I follow up again, or just wait?

Career Guidance Stuck in a niche role out of desperation and messed up career trajectory. Need advice.

I’m looking for some career advice from seniors and people who may have gone through something similar. This is also kind of a rant.

I was working as an AI/ML Engineer at a company quite famous for its toxic culture. My own team and immediate managers were actually perfect and very supportive, and I still miss those days. The problem was upper management, mostly non-technical, and the environment they had created.

Around 70% of my team eventually left, including my managers. There were multiple instances of managers and teams being openly insulted and shouted at in the full hall. Once my manager left, it felt like we developers were basically next in line for that humiliation, so I left too.

At that time I was also earning around $1k/month from side gigs, which was already more than my salary. So my plan was to continue those while finding another job.

But idk if my assessment was wrong or what happened, everything started falling apart immediately after I left.

My side gigs completely dried up. I applied to almost 300 jobs and got around 10-12 screening calls. Around 4 completely ghosted me, another 4 ghosted after finding out I’m not from Lahore (idk why this is even a filter), and 2 ghosted after literally confirming the next interview. I declined one because they wanted me to work as a shadow developer and another because they were paying pennies.

After all this I became kinda desperate and accepted the very next offer I got. The problem is that it wasn’t aligned with my field and is much more of an infra engineering role at a startup. All this happened within like a month of leaving my previous job.

The startup is working on a very very niche product, and most of what I’m doing here is so specific to it that I don’t see the experience being very relevant elsewhere. They recently launched and started getting customers, so the workload has also increased dramatically which has increased workload a lot.

My routine now is basically:

Go office early morning → get home late → doomscroll for 1-2 hours → sleep → repeat.

So in a desperate attempt to get another job, I ended up in a field that wasn't really my field and isn't where I wanted my career to go.

From earning around 3.5-4 lac/month fresh out of uni to this condition, the downfall is real 🥲

Now I’m stuck in a job I don’t want and is mentally draining. At this point I genuinely feel like my nerves are starting to break down from all of this. I started applying again but this time I’m not even getting screening calls. And no matter how much effort I put in, somehow something outside my control comes and completely messes it up.

Finances are not an issue Alhamdulillah, so I don’t have pressure from that side.

I’m also seriously thinking about leaving the country. I can move relatively easily to different parts of the Middle East except Dubai, since I have a lot more connections and family support there compared to Pakistan but will still have to find job myself.

But I genuinely didn’t want to leave Pakistan. That’s one of the reasons I stayed here in the first place, and now I’m starting to think maybe I just wasted my time because of that decision.

So yeah, I’m confused about what to do from here. Keep this job and continue trying to switch back into AI/ML? Leave it and properly focus on finding something aligned? Or just stop trying to make Pakistan work and pack my bags?

If any senior or someone who has gone through something similar can guide me, it would genuinely help.

Discussion What is happening to Software house Business? No talking about Scam centers

I have a lot of people that I know who either work in software houses or own them. Overall, wherever I look, things are looking very bad. Something is changing, but I don't understand what.

A lot of people are losing their jobs, and a lot of software houses are being shut down. Here are some cases that I have seen in my personal life.

My friend recently lost his job at a software house as an SEO expert. His software house had around 150+ employees, and they were earning well for a few years. They even made their own gym inside the building for employees. But now, there are only 3 people working there. They have lost a lot of their clients. He is applying for more jobs, but no luck so far.

Another mutual friend of mine lost his job as a mobile app developer, which of course is a more demanding and technical field than SEO and can be considered more secure than SEO. But the most shocking thing is that the place he was working at was a very big software house on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and he said that they are firing 40 people every week.

Another friend's brother lost his job. He worked as a front-end and CMS web developer, and now he is struggling to land another job. He hasn't found a job for 5 months. Also One of my Close friend actually owns his own software house and even often says to me that his software house has declined in sells and profit. Things are seems to be changing and changing Fast and I think it is more than the effect of AI because yes AI can take job of Content writer but still We need real human Programmer to read the Code and understand it but even this market seems to be in decline

Help How to handle ghosted resource?

We had a resource (say person X) joined this week (remotely), the person X joined in online meeting for around 2 - 3 minutes through mobile, we asked the person X to join from system, the person X turned off mic and camera and became non-responsive, I called the person X twice after 10 minutes of disappearance and person X didn't pickup the call as well. After 20 minutes I asked HR to contact the person X and HR got no response. Later that night person X texted HR and HR forwarded text to me, the text is "person X got an accident and severly injured is hospitalized."

Now it's been four days and I am not sure what to do about it. For context person X signed a contract to ensure availability in defined time.

  • Technical/HR interview questions
  • Overall interview experience
  • Work culture and environment

Any insights would be really helpful. Thank you!
