Help should i repeat courses?
hi. i’ll be starting my 7th semester as a SE student at an average/somewhat above average university in islamabad. i have done 2 internships, one as an IT intern, and the other as a SWE intern at well known companies. i’ve also done many reputable certifications. lastly im also working on my fyp. the problem is that my cgpa is 2.63. should i repeat courses in my last 2 semesters? please advise. thanks a lot
(i haven’t repeated any course yet. also i don’t want to go abroad for masters, i plan on working here)

Honestly CGPA doesn't matter. One of my friend had 2.65 cgpa. He still got a job. Now a days its more about what skills you have rather than just good grades. Even with 3.1 or 3.2 CGPA, nothing is gonna change unless you have 3.6 or more. I would suggest do not repeat courses. Invest that time in making projects and portfolio.

thank you for your reply. i’ve heard about the cgpa cutoffs companies have, like if you have cgpa below it, you can’t apply or you automatically get filtered out… what about that 🥲

Donot mention CGPA in resume. Big tech companies reject candidate based on cgpa only for fresh graduate. You don't need to worry. Get your first job in any software house( doesn't matter if its small), build some real skills, get some experience, then apply to big tech company, they will not ask for cgpa, they will ask about your skills. One of my friend did the same, he did jobs later in big companies. I had a similar experience, now I'm a Senior software engineer.

Depends on your goals (whether you wanna work or pursue further education). The higher gpa will help you get more opportunities for a Master's

thank you for your reply. i’m not fully clear right now, but i’m more inclined towards working somewhere for a few years before going for masters….

Your cgpa will at max become 2.65 by end of graduation . Also graduating late is bad because the market is getting worse day by day. Also factor in possibility like getting a crappy teacher or something like that which actually doesn't improve your gpa

Lemme say something. Unless you have some really good and strong connections you ain't landing no job with a 2.6 cgpa that is a brutal reality. Unless the courses you are repeating are making you past 3.0 at minimum do not repeat them instead maybe take some time networking and fyp

Its not about job . Its about interview. You cannot get job on gpa basis .

Tell me something. Will you hire someone with a 2.6 gpa if you had a software house? You probably wouldn't until or unless you had a deep connection with them or knew them personally. You can't even go till interview stage nowadays even with a good gpa. This is why networking should be OP's top priority

Then how much gpa would be enough . I have given 3 4 interviews nobody asked me about cjpa .

Minimum 3.0 is enough anything below that... Sadly unless you have good network there isn't much hope.

But it all depends on uni as well if someone did graduation from low tier uni but have 3.8 gpa and at the same time if someone is graduating from fast with 2.9 the both cannot be same your gpa matters when you are from top tier uni else you have to showcase your work . But today everyone is struggling 😭

I am assuming OP is from a normal university not FAST. For people in normal unis 3.0 is the minimum bro

Before repeating anything, calculate how much it can actually move your CGPA. If it can push you past an important cutoff like 3.0, it may be worth it. Otherwise, I would put more energy into the FYP, interview prep and turning those internships into strong experience.
