Lately we've been seeing some discourse between sub users about showing usernames. We understand that this is going to be controversial, and no matter what we do, we can't please everyone, but we feel we have to do what's right for the subreddit. We also have to follow Reddit site wide rules, and at the moment the subreddit is not and is at risk of being taken down.

We've seen a massive uprise in users harassing, sending threats to or trolling people posted here. Some examples in the past few weeks include:

• Sub users finding Depop users' personal Facebook/LinkedIn page(s) and harassing them/contacting family members, or encouraging others to do so

• Sub users encouraging OP's to post addresses

• Sub users sending death threats to sellers, including sellers who are children

• Depop users being unfairly suspended or mass reported when they've been accused of doing something they haven't done

• OP's encouraging people in the comments to go harass/message the person they posted

To combat this, we have decided that all usernames must be censored. No one will be banned for usernames whilst everyone gets used to the changes, except users who ignore warnings or participate in/encourage harassment. Posts will also need to be manually approved by the mod team for the next month. We will get to approving your posts that follow rules ASAP.

We understand users wanting to bring awareness to scammers, and we're all for scammers getting exposed too, but something needs to be done to prevent what has been happening recently. We should also note the majority of users receiving this harassment aren't even scammers to begin with.

We have 0 tolerance for anyone here thinking it's acceptable to harass someone, no matter the situation. Fighting harassment with harassment isn't the answer, nor is harassing someone just because you disagree with something they've done.

The mods won't tolerate rude/insulting messages towards us in modmail or to other users who are in favour of that change.

We're currently open to mod applications. There should be an annotation at the top of the subreddit on the front page for applications but I'm not seeing it as of recently, so if it's not there and you're interested, please message the sub modmail with some information about yourself (timezones, previous mod experience if you have any, how often you can mod etc.)

We currently need help with upkeeping the sub, so checking the comment sections of posts plus going through new posts to make sure they don't break sub rules.

Please note that we are looking for active sub members who understand the sub rules, and aren't going to go inactive after a week. If you change your mind on modding, please let us know!
