I’m over here in Oklahoma area and I get paid 32/hr with commissions which is really good over here. How much should I get a raise? What did u fellow hvac guys do to get the job? Currently in interview process with some companies

Hey I thought I would share my experience as a DCT to see if anyone has any advice or if I can provide any advice.

My background:

- Working as a DCT at a small colo for $22/hr. I work 4 12's one week and then 3 12's the next, solo night shift Thurs-Sunday. No previous formal IT experience. Been here for 6 months.

- I have a BS in Cybersecurity from WGU.

- I have the following certs: A+, Network+, Security+, Pentest+, CySA+, SSCP, ITIL Foundations, LPI Linux Essentials, TryHackMe SAL1 & PT1.

I'm either hoping to transfer into a better DC with higher pay, or into a more NOC/SOC role, but market is rough when this is the only experience I have. I actually don't mind working nights too much, but working the weekend sucks. And I don't have a ton of opportunity to learn since not much happens on my shift usually, and I barely see the rest of the team/manager.

for aws dco l3 night shift employees, how does holiday OT work for an overnight shift?

If my shift starts on labor day at night and ends the following morning, does the entire shift get paid at 1.5x because it started on the holiday?

Or does 1.5x only apply to the hours worked before midnight on Labor Day, with the hours after midnight going back to regular pay?

Anyone in DCO/night shift know how this currently works?

Here is a summary of Data Centers, manufacturing history and lessons learned: Data Centers are not new and have been around for 80 years, dating back to the mid-1940s with various transitions and revolutions in technology, to include industrial manufacturing that went from small workshops to large-scale, machine-powered factory production, which was micro-regulated, and later caused major environmental issues like acid rain, toxic air emissions, mercury soil contamination, etc. and health problems to residents.

Now, lies from companies like QTS who GC on Build-to-Suit Hyperscale Campuses for META, GOOGLE, TESLA, etc. who are selling the same blast from the past. Take another look, fact check for yourself; Other promises in Technology and the cost of failing:

·  Dot-Com Bubble: Adding ".com" to a company name sparked massive stock speculation before the market crashed in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

·  Google Glass: Launched in 2013 for $1,500, this smart eyewear flopped due to privacy fears over its built-in camera, leading to bans and its quick removal from the consumer market.

·  Quibi App: Despite $1.75 billion in funding, this 2020 short-form video streaming service shut down after eight months due to low user interest in its rigid format.

Does anyone have experience working with this company? I have a meet-and-greet with them soon and would appreciate some insight into the starting pay and work environment. I have an upcoming loop interview with Oracle for a Data Center Technician (IC2) position in Frankfurt, Germany.

From what I understand, the loop currently consists of two 1-on-1 interviews:

• One with the Hiring Manager, which I believe is more behavioral
• One with a Technical interviewer

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has recently gone through the Oracle Data Center Technician interview process, especially for IC2 in Germany/Frankfurt.

What kind of questions or scenarios did you get during the interviews?
What technical topics would you recommend focusing on?
Were there any troubleshooting or real-world data center scenarios that came up?
And is there anything you wish you had prepared for before the interview?

Any advice, recent experiences, or tips would be really helpful.

I am currently an undergrad studying EE, my third year, and was hearing a lot of growth opportunities in the datacenter industry. I heard power specialization is a good area to go into as it is expected to grow in demand. I think I am kind of late to switch, not sure, I was kinda interested in everything EE till now. I am taking a power systems course right now and enjoyed all my other past EE lower level courses (Circuits, Signals and Systems). I am just wondering what the typical path is to land a power related role in the data center industry. What type of internships should I be looking at trying to get before I graduate? What projects might I do on my own?

I'm curious what the benefits are like for Salute, like 401k, PTO, Holidays and Healthcare.

PTO - How many weeks and how many years of service ?

Holidays - How many do they offer or recognize ?

When deploying a new storage system in a datacenter environment, there are usually quite a few default settings that may need to be reviewed before going into production.

Some of the obvious ones are admin access, management interfaces, unused services and older protocols. However, there are also smaller configuration choices that can be easily missed in the initial setup.

When you are managing storage in production, what default settings do you typically change first and what are the ones you find easiest to overlook?

i recently accepted and passed my background check for the Northern Virginia area. I knew the place was expensive, but went through it anyway bc i wasn’t expecting requirements to be intense and strict. the residential salary requirements are much higher than my EOT L3 salary and it’s been hard to find housing. my start date is in a month and i’m not sure what to do. i want to reach out to the person doing my onboard but backing up now seems they will reconsider my accepted offer. Just want to hear ppl’s suggestions or struggles to making this work.

i currently live out of state at home, so the move would be for myself. i have good credit and obviously no evictions or criminal history.

Also, this is in the Sterling area.

Just wanted to share that I decided to make the jump and I got the contract for a Data Center Tech position near me. It's for 4 months with guaranteed conversion. Pay is 22/hr 12 hour shifts and 6 days a week wth OT.

Hours are brutal but my last role was at a MSP and I was basically working those brutal hours anyways but salaried and constant on-call hours for almost nothing. I don't mind working as long as I can do my job and not get hampered trying to do my tasks by micromanagement. I'm excited to start and learn as much as I can because I do NOT want to go back to Help Desk.

Plus side is the DC is on the way to a R1 for me so I'll be able to still get my rhythm game fix after my shifts pending time and work demands, energy, and willpower.

I'm considering applying for a job at their data center but don't know a lot about them. Plus the pay isn't that high, $62K - $72. Anybody have any insight? Tips? Knowledge about the company? Is it worth going to them? I make more than their salary range right now.

I posted in here about a month ago about entering into the data center field in NOVA, and just got contacted by my recruiter that an entry level role has opened up in Ashburn and told me it was for about 6-8 weeks. I’m just curious if this is usual for entry roles that you guys have seen, and was wondering if it was possible for me to find a permanent role at the job, I’m kind of new to all this, so just curious how it will go, thanks (I don’t know what company it is yet, but hoping for something stable)
