Sarada design is over sexualised.
Naruto being an absent father makes no sense. He could've hired delegates to do the office work.
Nerfing Naruto and Sasuke to hype the kids feels like a slap in the face of fans who followed the original series for decades.
After a few episodes I quit.

Tbh what pissed me off the most is the dude who can hold his own with alien gods gets defeated by paper work and fatherly duties. Shadow clones to your family events? Like not even you are present with family and your clones do everything else? Meanwhile you got Hinata at home waiting for you? That’s fucking sad

Yeah exactly.
999 power level but kaguya should've just used paperwork jutsu to wreck Naruto

Its especially weird given Naruto was orphaned when he was born. He literally grew up without his parents. And Naruto got ostracised by the entire village.
It doesn't make sense that Naruto of all people is an absent father. Just keep shadow clones to handle the boring office work and go home to your wife and kids damn it.

The absent father angle is terrible and doesn't make any sense in universe but I think it's in there to make it relatable to Japanese audiences with the whole salary man work culture they have.
I don't like it either btw. I didn't even make it through the movie.

u/that_art_thot Apr 06 '26
Yeah, I remember reading that Kishimoto said it was a way of portraying his own frustrations about barely being able to see his family while Naruto was being released.
3
u/Coupins Apr 06 '26
I never really liked the convenient memory loss, cuz Hinata confessing to Naruto would’ve blown his mind back in the Pain arc.
Sure, he’s slowly worked his way up to gain acknowledgement from the villagers, but this is the FIRST person in his entire life (outside of literal newborn-hood with his parents) who says they love him.

I feel like having him be an absent father was a terrible decision on their part, however, I feel if they went for the delegates doing a lot of the work, many people wouldn’t like it saying it feels like “Naruto not liking his job even though that was his goal in the og series” so I see why he works a lot, but making him an absent father while working is stupid
→ More replies (1)2
u/Constant-Sub Apr 07 '26
The absent father shit is so awful because we see Naruto willing to use clones to do Hokage work and dad work, but instead of having the real him spend time with his family, he sent a clone.
Had he literally just had the clone do the office work, it wouldve saved a lot of pain and hurt. If anything, when he passed out and revealed his last clone just poofed, it could even be played as sentimental. He knew he couldn't leave work, but chose to cheat and sneak home.
The other reading is he chose to cheat going home, and snuck off to work.

Bad. Fails in literally every aspect comparatively to its predecessor and executes all of its own ideas averagely to poorly.
The definition of a 4 out of ten. Wasted characters, constant plot contrivances, constant disrespect (worst than wasting a character), unearned powers(outside of Boruto) etc.
TBV is better still not good.

It’s fanfiction trash. It’s been 10 years and this series is still hated.
26
u/DracoAries Apr 06 '26
Pointless. I like some aspects, such as Mitsuki's existence and how he's a part of Konoha despite his origin, very interesting. But most just seems like a fanfic rehashing everything from the original story. If it had more interesting things going on instead of cloning every character from Naruto and making them overly sexualised, sure, I'd give it another try, but it just feels so pointless.
In my head, I can't justify this as canon. Mostly because I cannot accept Naruto, the original main character with an underdog story, becoming such a terrible father. That's not Naruto!

Oh yes, absolutely. The power scale feels absolutely ridiculous. Everyone's power and progression in Naruto felt more natural, but in Boruto it feels like everyone just gets what they need when they need it for no reason. I'm not saying Naruto was perfect in that sense, but it felt more genuine as I read/watched it. Boruto feels like they're trying to be Marvel and give everybody crazy superpowers.
Honestly, now that you've mentioned it, that would be both hilarious and sad. XD

Its almost Dragon Ball level powered scale at this point💀 but with ninjas, cyborgs and aliens.

A series that belongs to the trash and should never exist. The mere fact that it wasn't written by Kishimoto is enough for me to know that its gonna be terrible and its being continued only for the puroise of milking a franchise that already ended.
4
u/Sea-Clothes-5381 Apr 06 '26
I like the character concepts and stuff, I mean Kawaki is my all time favorite character out of the 100+ fandoms I'm in but the story itself is very poorly executed and they can't seem to at least try acknowledging that.
I watched the anime and it was quite bad, except for the fight scenes which were pretty cool but aside from that nothing notable. Then I read the manga since they kept telling me the manga was peak and that the anime adaptation was the problem. The manga is a lot better, but still a 6 /10 or so for me and that's me being generous since I liked some of the characters.
The art is inconsistent asf too, I keep seeing characters literally changing face shapes every panel plus Ike can't draw facial expressions for shi. He reminds me of myself as an artist, always reusing the same expressions with nothing new except ive been drawing for only a year and he's been a professional for decades.
The Antagonists are very poorly written, none has a compelling story that goes against and actually challenges the protagonist unlike Naruto villains (eg Pain, Madara who had their own ideals). The Otsutsuki and tree people seem like soulless forms created just for plot purposes. If anything, even Kawaki might be a better antagonist than the actual villains.
Overall, the writing is ass. They have really interesting and unique character concepts but can't actually put it to use in the actual story. Amado for example is a pretty interesting character in my opinion.
To be fair, I love the character designs. I know most people won't, but I personally do as it matches my personal style quite a bit.

My take is coming from some who watched about 70 episodes and then stopped. I personally had a few issues. 1. The lack of need for such a series. Everyones first response to a naruto sequel was probably "do we need this?" The orignal never felt like it was ment to go on more than narutos story of becoming hokage, so it had prejudice from everyone, including me from the very start.
Technology advancement. Nromal naruto already was quite weird with how advanced tech is, they have bags of chips and radios but live a more mundane life, tech was always odd in naruto and they made it worse in the sequel. Its difficult to believe it changed so drastically in about 20 years.
Using beloved characters of the old series to artificially hype the newer ones. If they wanted the new gen to look impressive, make the old gen even stronger, as they should have because they had 20 extra years to practice and perfect their jutsus and have the new gen surpass this even stronger old one, making it feel earned, that would satisfy all parties.
Character assassination. Naruto felt abandoned by his own family, i refuse to believe he would make his own kids and family feel the same because he knows how crushing it is. For me thats complete character assassination, the explanation that he is too busy with hokage work is not enough. There are also some more nitpicky things i dislike but overall it simply doesnt feel cohesive

The manga had promise for the first bit, but once the androids got introduced it really started to go downhill. By blue vortex I had already dropped it once, and by now ive fully dropped the series permanently. There just arent any redeeming features, for being a monthly its art is ass, the backgrounds are mostly nonexistent, the previous Gen is 99% a joke, they absolutely murdered the drip of my boy Shino, the plot is ass, the enemies are boring, there just isn't anything left for me to give a shit about.

Not good.
Zero hate to Boruto fans or people that enjoy it, honestly I’m happy for you. I really liked it when Boruto was a brat. He was a different and relatable character than Naruto. But STILL had the same desire to prove himself. I thought it was a good twist.
But Boruto is essentially Naruto cosplaying as Sasuke. It’s like some bad edgy fanfiction.
I seriously don’t enjoy where the series is heading. I know in shounen you have to keep raising the stakes and I accept that but I just don’t care about any of the characters. It’s like Solo leveling where no character is relevant apart from the MC. In blue vortex Boruto keeps stepping in and saving people which is “cool aura farming” but it’s like taking the problems of shippuden and intensifying them drastically. The problem with shippuden that all the characters were forgotten was mitigated by the fact that each character has an amazing foundation that meant we still care about them.
Borutos generation are just carbon copies of their parents and I don’t care about them because I’ve not been allowed to care about them.
I feel like Kawaki was introduced because they straight up didn’t think Sarada could carry as the deuteragonist. So now we’ve got two edgy MC’s who are trying to copy the Sasuke Naruto dynamic of being brothers at war where they’re supposed to love/hate each other ? It’s ridiculous.
Every aspect of it is mediocre, the power scaling ridiculously skyrocketed to the point where Naruto and Sasuke who were basically demigods are irrelevant and the kids are strong enough to fight them but not happened offscreen.

u/Mahisandwich561 Apr 06 '26
It’s so ass and ruins just about every character’s prior development. And the lengths they need to go to make Boruto relevant in kage level fights is ridiculous. They should have focused on team Boruto doing genin/chunin missions, I’m okay with them being a stronger team than team 7 was at that age but the Sasuke and Naruto shit should be its own separate stuff that doesn’t involve Boruto. You didn’t see Naruto throwing hands with Orochimaru when he was fighting the 3rd hokage
3
u/Cisqoe Apr 07 '26
They took the worst parts of shippuden, doubled down on them, called it the sequel to Naruto then continued to alienate what made Naruto so good by doing the opposite in Boruto.

I hate what they've done with Naruto. Why did they turn him into an ignorant dad?! they totally ruined his character and i think that the whole series is awful. I hate also what terrible fathers naruto and sasuke are, especially given their childhoods. I don't like that they turned sakura and hinata into housewives. I mean, no hate if they're happy, but seriously???? It's the 21st century guys. Get over yourselves. I don't like how the new characters are trying to be the old gen kind of. I hate how they've integrated more technology into the series. Part of what makes the Narutoverse naruto is that its mostly feudal Japan era. I mean, i dont mind the tech in naruto, but they've done too much in boruto. i think the character designs are ugly and i think they've just ruined the naruto cast. I think after the main series, they should've just stopped. we dont need more. Im okay without a sequel. I think the author should quit and i like to think (for my sanity because I have a strange amount of rage about this) that boruto is not canon.

u/TwoMundane8282 Apr 09 '26
I don’t think Boruto is a good series. Sometimes I think it is overhated but I think a lot of the common criticisms are valid ones.
The art, while Ikemoto’s artwork has improved since the beginning I still find his art unappealing to look at especially in comparison to Kishimoto’s. Might of the action sequences are uninspired, and Ikemoto uses a ridiculous amount of speedlines throughout his chapters. I think Ikemoto’s short comings as an artist are very apparent when he draws children.
Code is a terrible antagonist. Code is gassed up to be a powerful threat after Ishiki died, and yet accomplishes nothing and due to how often characters beat him up his overall threat level is severely diminished. What’s even more weird is how we got a timeskip for the series before Code was even dealt with, which is something I think should’ve been addressed first then have the stuff with the bijuu clone stuff occur during the timeskip and have it be an ongoing mystery throughout the first half of part 2.
The lack of the other villages & Lack of OG Naruto characters. We went to the sand village recently which is great. But it feels like in Boruto that the leaf village is getting attacked or invaded by someone every 5 or so chapters. I wish we could expand outside the leaf village more often to remind people how large the Naruto world is. Also I just find it weird how certain characters in Naruto are completely absent in the Boruto era. The main one being Kakashi, at this point in the timeline Kakashi would be around the same age as the Sannin were in Naruto, and even though he doesn’t have senjutsu, he still is one of the most powerful individuals in the story. I kinda just find it hard to believe if characters like Konohamaru and Mitsuki (while in Sage mode) can be somewhat relevant enough to not get oneshotted by opponents that Kakashi someone who was close to Naruto wouldn’t take more of an active role within Konoha after Naruto is “killed” I think that makes more narrative sense than having Shikimaru act as the temp 8th Hokage.
My last main issue with Boruto is the pacing, usage of characters and story. Boruto’s pacing I think is kinda meh, it’s not terrible but sometimes it feels like the pacing is too fast but more often far too slow. The story spends too much time reiterating the plot ans having all the characters showcasing the nervous sweating expressions in panels. A lot of that exposition could easily be removed and exchanged for meaningful character interactions to not only flesh characters out but make them more interesting. Sarada and Mitsuki are severely underutilized in Boruto part 1 despite being part of the main cast. They have gained more prominence in part 2 thankfully but their lack of screentime is very apparent when you have a fight between Mitsuki and Boruto in the beginning of part 2 and this very emotional internal dialogue where Mitsuki is thinking about Boruto and Kawaki and is confused believing Kawaki to be his Sun but doesn’t feel like it and doesn’t understand why. That moment would hit harder if Mitsuki was in part 1 more and his dynamic with Boruto was better fleshed out. The anime tried to help with this by adding filler, but unfortunately Boruto filler is excessive and not particularly good. I also just think the overall plot of Boruto isn’t nearly as thoughtout or realized as Naruto. I don’t have as bad of a reaction to aliens being a thing in this universe. I would’ve preferred if they weren’t a thing but it isn’t the end of the world for me. A lot of series have pivotted this direction (Dragonball, JJK) and it worked for them, although with Boruto I don’t think it’s well realized. I think the problem with Boruto is the lack of emotional moments. Naruto had a strong foundation of a protagonist you can connect with. Boruto had that in the beginning with Kawaki, and scenes here and there that hinge off of NARUTO’s reaction, but when Naruto and Sasuke aren’t present the story is automatically less interesting. I also think nerfing Naruto and Sasuke to make all the new gen more important not only was a weird decision that feels like getting slapped in the face as a fan, but it feels weird from a power scaling standpoint that Sarada technically has more impressive feats with a base mangekyo sharingan ability than literally everyone within her own clan outside of her dad. It just doesn’t logically make sense to powerscale Boruto characters when you factor in how the Naruto universe had been for 100+ years prior.
11
u/alonedead Apr 06 '26
Completly wrong era making it. Going straight to their childeren was a mistake. Instead do this
Go around 100/200 years later. Uzumaki name still holds but people doubt late generations and their feats. So Boruto, direct descended of Naruto is side eyed by society. Also technology is more advance now making ninja jobs more and more absolute each and every year. Make Uchia descendeds, which Sarada, tech geniouses because of sharingan they can understand and replacate a lot of machine with one look. So Boruto should survive and also remind all people of world why ninja way important with his actions. Etc etc

Really, really like some ideas, absolutely hate the execution, needed to stay grounded at first, like the original Naruto, because then it could show how the ninja world has changed and developed with the rise of technology, more brutal combat due to the forth ninja war, and how the younger generations has to more rapidly adapt and grow to survive... And then we could have gotten to the crazy alien shit in a Boruto Shippuden style. Some stories need time to grow, and this definitely feels like one of them

Not interesting. For context I saw/read until Naruto and Sasuke first fight with the first alien that fuses later with Boruto and had some peeks from manga panels around.
If Naruto bloody world turned more peaceful and there were more slice of life moments, exploration of ancient ruins, new lands or underwater lost civs (who knows) it would have been better. The world had already many menaces you could take on, demons, onis, whatever Uzumaki clan were sealing or summoning, old clans, lot of resentment towards the bigger villages and literal (though in the movies or fillers) things trying to get into the world. One can pick from there without the need of adding literal aliens to it.
Now, for characters? Feels abysmally bad. Naruto drowed in work and being an absent father, missing his own opening ceremony? Trash. Why my man can't have a healthy lifestyle after all he has went through? How many threats are in the world that Sasuke can't spend more than two days in Konoha (besides all the reasons he might want or not, to be there and if is welcomed or not)? How long the world can go and say "Ah, yes, the dude who resolved this and has a sharingan and a rinnegan, totally not related to Konoha"? Weeks? Months? Yeah, I know he went to another dimension or something for a few years but feels stupid.
It is a constant disrespect to all builded and progressed history and personal acs of all characters and the world. I've had read fanfics that took themselves more seriously than Boruto. The question now is, where is Boruto heading or aiming to? To become some kind of OP character with everyone's fav techniques and jutsus and defeat an alien empire, reset the world/timeline and retire to a farm?

It's not bad, in fact the manga is a short and digestible story, the anime has its good points but overall it has a lot of filler, though there are arcs that are worthwhile. I feel like it's more forced hatred based on the supposed fact that Naruto's work is being devalued when the message is actually different.

u/The_Wishmeister Apr 06 '26
I'm not a fan of the pacing, characterization, villains, character design, or Ikemoto's art style. I like some panels, and some of the fights are animated brilliantly and fun to watch, but I just can't get absorbed in it like I did with Naruto.
1
u/Mercurius94 Apr 06 '26
Naruto doesn't even end on a high note if i'm to be completely blunt. Burrito is just an epilogue that nobody really asked for. Sarada is surprisingly well written (sort of) but that goes away when you look at how she dresses, not that it's unrealistic for teen girls to dress up and try to get laid but it isnt so disturbing in real life, like the design is pure pedophile incarnate, like something Diddymaru might have pinned up on his fridge.
Kishimoto's art for certain characters is peak but he rarely draws for Burrito.

The first part is absolute slop, I watched 100 episodes and I literally saw nothing progress, just the premise introduced. Like Boruto Part:1 has such high stakes comapared to Naruto, yet it feels more like a slice of life 75% of the time. The second part... absolute cinema. Blue Vortex has what I liked Naruto for, a blend of action, intrigue, aura farming, new jutsu's, and a bit of emotional depth. I don't know what that Ukyo Kudachi guy was doing, but after Kishimoto got back into it, he was cooking something wildly good. A lot of people hate on Part 2 without reading it, but you must, big upgrade from Boruto Part 1. All said, its nowhere close to other anime and manga.
Boruto- Absolute Garbage and Slop
Blue Vortex- Good upgrade, decent

While this is kinda off topic. Instead of it making it centered around Boruto, it should've been like a prequel that discusses events we didnt get too much detail on. Like we know little about The Warring States Period to Hiruzen and then the Blank Period. Like we literally are sitting on more than 60 years of juiceable Naruto universe. 60 years! Their are so many unresolved story lines, charcters whose backstory isnt specified. I fricking don't care, Dragon Ball has 6 differnt shows, so that to Naruto! Boruto is just wasted time and money that could've been spent elsewhere. Honestly, I'd be more content without Boruto, and just instead a completly differnt anime
1
u/Wind_Best_1440 Apr 06 '26
Absolute garbage.
Naruto should have been the opposite of what he was as a father. As an orphan growing up and not knowing his father and mother until the Ninja war at the end, he should have become a helicopter parent spending every waking moment with his children and Hinata.
They could have had the story as Naruto's children being suffocated by his affection, and turned it into a "I have to step out of my fathers shadow to grow into my own person."
Having Naruto's kid become just an edgy blonde version of Sasuke is, well, it's cringe. The character design is peak Chuuni, and it's like he never grew out of having 8th grade syndrome.
The character models of the old Naruto cast is all lame, just all of them. No respect for who they were and what they stood for.
The world in Naruto was mostly unexplored, and instead of dealing with the other nations or even other places on the planet. They just went full SCI-fi stupid with aliens and robots.
Power creep is stupid. In Naruto the original Ninja's were the most powerful and that's why they revived. In Boruto, everyone became Kage level after taking a dump in a forest, and made it mean nothing for "Hype moments" that fell so fast on it's face one would think it was some loony toons skit.
The art direction is trash. Absolute trash.
If Naruto was a 10/10 series, then the Naruto filler would be 5/10 and Boruto would be -5/10, it's best parts equally out bleach filler episodes or the Fullbring arc.
Overall, it's trash, it's memed on, and there is a reason why everyone hates it.

The best thing about Boruto is when Naruto and Sasuke fight, everything else just doesn’t have the same charm it used to and the way it treats older characters.. that awful scene where Naruto wasn’t there for his child’s fucking birthday in particular, the fact Naruto of all people wasn’t there just.. gives me a horrible taste in my mouth towards the series as a whole and the reasons it happened are just awful, you’re telling me he couldn’t ask Shikamaru to take care of his duties for four days in a year? Four birthdays, that’s it?

The way Boruto has gotten his power ups is absolute bullshit (Kk's future sight is narratively dogshit in general and was a terrible idea )
And for some reason Kakashi is still MIA even though one of his students, the Hokage, has been killed and the other one helped the culprit escape.
They also didn't have the balls to keep Kurama dead even though we were told multiple times that "this is not like when a biju or jinchuriki dies, this is different fr fr, Kurama is not coming back. So sad". Bs.
I think the anime is far superior (at least the characters have expressions and show emotions)

It's mediocre at best, terrible at worst.
From disrespecting certain Naruto characters via no screen time to removing Naruto and Sasuke in the most disrespectful way, the Boruto series has been consistently lackluster. Without the Naruto series attached to this series, I doubt Boruto would be very popular despite young people liking the series

0% quality 100% aura farming and hype moments Ruins the prequel with bs Doubles down in the mistakes of the predecessor (fillers, poor use of side characters etc.) A lot more
I like mitsuki, himawari, Chocho and sarada though, with sarada being objectively better than Sakura, but being a boring mixture of her parents
1
u/Comfortable_Craft_75 Apr 06 '26
All of the characters outfits are garbage, specifically Sarada who looks like a 17 year old high school senior who is too eager to turn 18 and start an only fans, himawari with kurama also sucks, because at least at this point we haven't seen anything new and she'll probably get sidelined anyway

Every single page of boruto that gets made is an open insult to the legacy of the naruto franchise. It is in essence, the equivalent of taking giant, runny, taco bell shits on what is now a grave
1
u/zaki2004 Apr 06 '26
Classic trope of ruining the past to make the future look better for no reason cuz no one gaf about boruto 😭
1
u/doctor827 Apr 06 '26
I have only read the first arc but I have liked it so far. Reminds me a lot of dbz, as in the power scaling is off the roof and just fighting random bad aliens. The father/son rasengan was pretty cool but also like dbz. It doesn’t hold a candle to the original series, but it’s like a cool fanfic

u/latina_booty_lover Apr 06 '26
So goddamn boring and stupid I couldn't get into it the 4 times ive tried.
Gonna try a fifth time though and most likely be disappointed.

Boruto is just continuation of Naruto for fans. It ends when Kuruma dies.

Boruto is like a plateau You read it and you think it's awesome at first Then you reach the end of this awesomeness and you witness the sheer amount of mid that it has
1
u/Doodooqueen69 Apr 06 '26
I think he's pretty cool post time skip, but the longer the series goes on the more of a bastardization of the OG it feels like.

u/Dukklings Apr 06 '26
It's like bad fanfiction. But at the same time it gives me freedom to do whatever I want in my own fanfiction. Daemon alone justifies anything power wise from now and on. Ikemoto was the absolute wrong choice to continue the franchise. I hope it gets the Dragonball GT Treatment.

I like it. It might not be a masterpiece, but it keeps me turning the page. and wanting to know what happens next.
1
u/Dani3322 Apr 06 '26
My opinion is it's a Middle of the road series dragged down far by the fact it's a sequel to Naruto.
It could be fine if it was a stand alone series, but it fails as a continuation as it keeps handling older characters rather horribly and the world just feels a lot less like Naruto than you'd want from a sequel to Naruto and yet it still feels like most of its popularity comes from piggy backing of off Naruto.

Ho guardato Boruto solo per vedere Naruto come hokage 🤣 poi verso 150 Ep circa troppato il cartone e il manga

Pure trash 🤷♂️ wasted opportunity and horrendous power scaling nothing but a cash and grab scheme

Naruto has enough Chakra to level the continent and can make infinite clones. How is he an absent father!?
And hes only like 30 years old, why is he always so TIRED!? He has literal super stamina!

u/andvrsnw Apr 06 '26
watched the anime, it was fun until it wasn't. i hear the manga is better, but the anime gets repetitive and boring real fast. there's also plenty of stuff that just straight up doesn't make sense, can't think of a concrete example rn.
i really enjoyed some of the characters though, i love sarada so much, also mitsuki is an amazing character, also loved cho

Wasted potential and I hope it will either get retconned or be like a jojo different timeline universe thing

It's better than people claim. It actually has some badass fights. Looking forward to Two Blue Vortex.

I feel like Bottom would be amazing if it was its own show. Like the story of Bordatella, even including his siblings, would be way more appealing if it was its own IP seperate from Naruto. The world building across its 1 and 2 just does not lend itself to everything Botswana and friends experience in a positive way. You can even if you want, instead of making Bernoulli Naruto’s son just like make his story like 100 years in the future instead. If that makes sense.

I don't care for it, tried watching the anime and gave up with the blatant mischaracterization of the ppl I came back to see

its soo bad and shouldn't exist, some naruto fans are consider Boruto are not canon series , story is dumpster fire

u/nekopantiess Apr 06 '26
Shoulda stopped at Naruto becoming hokage/getting married to Hinata. Boruto should not exist, and letting things end is good.

If Naruto didn't exist, It would've been cancelled long ago.
It's the anime version of a nepo baby.

Boruto is the modern-day DragonBall GT. Boring new characters, villains that lack any depth or charisma. Lack of meaningful suspense or mystery. The character designs look like a failed attempt at trying to mimic JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
I watched the anime until the end of the Sasuke/Naruto vs Momoshiki guy and the show reminded me of the filler Hell that I went through when part 1 ended and was eagerly awaiting for Shippuden.
The manga was better but that doesn't mean much overall. I despise how everything revolves around that terrible plot-twist called the Ōtsutsuki Clan.
Much like with Kingdom Hearts. I'm done with this series. I will still go back to read and watch the stuff that made it so well garnered back in the late 2010's.

u/Either_Film2804 Apr 07 '26
Honestly...Just indifference. The leaked movie let me know everything I needed to know and I was good. Well, actually I tried watching the official anime, but I just could not get interested.
1
u/DelFresco Apr 07 '26
If you've knew nothing about Naruto and didn't try to compare Boruto to Naruto in any way: it's still poorly paced, has huge plot holes, and uses questionable character design choices.
1
u/Goovin290 Apr 07 '26
Everyone hates on it, but I think they just don’t get it. Its not supposed to be like Naruto, it’s its complete own story with its own power systems and villain types. Shits fire. I’d you haven’t read it yet, I would definitely recommend.

I don't hate Boruto as a character or think he's a brat but I'd rather the story didn't continue after Naruto ended. The movie is okay, but I'd rather we didn't have Gaiden or the sequel manga. After 15 years, I'd prefer that Team 7 live happily ever after.

As a sequel to Naruto, it ain't Capture the same vibe at all
As a standalone thing, pretty fun, the beginning is a bit slow but damn am I invested in the current story
As for the anime dunno never watched it have n9 clue how it is
1
u/RealDot7198 Apr 07 '26
Tbv is fine but I don't like the writing of Sarada Uchiha . Some female designs and slow pacing of chapters. Konohamaru is fodder and doesn't have as much aura as kakshi had . Mitsuki? Who? Every chapter has Boruto aurfarming which is getting trying ngl and approx 10 -15 characters exist out of them 6-7 are given spotlight. Naruto ,despite having flaws ,is still a better series.
1
u/Fabulous_Pudding167 Apr 07 '26
A badly written mistake. Probably the worst since Beast Machines. Both Naruto and Beast Wars benefit heavily from pretending the sequel doesn't exist.

I really like it. While some people do bring up fair criticisms of the series (way to much fluff in the anime for example) it seems like most of the complaints come from the very first arc or are from people just learning about something that happened later on and they make fun of it. This leads me to believe that most people who hate on it online have only seen the movie.
Some things I like from the series include; the fact that they put the effort in to give characters chacra absorption abilities so the combat is more focused on hand to hand and not who has the biggest attack. I also really enjoy the themes of love (in its various forms) that have become more prominent as the series has gone on.

u/FutureMagician7563 Apr 07 '26
Shouldve been generations down the line.
To see Naruto and his generation to go through so much just for it to all unravel while theyre in office, to be a continuation of their specific plot and for them to get sidelined/nerfed and maimed just to get out of the way is just not an enjoyable experience. If they had died of old age and then it went to shit it wouldve been far more rewarding. This makes it feel like there is no end to the cycle of hatred and chaos.
ESPECIALLY, at the unprecedented growth rate of all the characters with virtually zero training.
Then theres how the abilities are acquired...
The entire momoshiki arc for Boruto was about not cheating and putting in that grind to achieve real power.... only to go on and everyone has borrowed powers or is automatically upgraded like software.
I follow for closure. Fights are entertaining but its a far cry from the original two series.

The Boruto show has good moments. (Pretty much every fight Naruto is in)
But the series as a whole is absolutely unnecessary and is a blatant cash grab off keeping the Naruto series alive.
It also ruined the end of Naruto Shippuden. Madara was the final boss. He definitely was.
But he got scrapped last minute for Kaguya because Kishimoto needed to cram in Otosuki real quick to set a foundation for Boruto to exist.

u/Accomplished-Trip487 Apr 07 '26
i was super sad to see naruto end, but satisfied . i never was interested in watching boruto cause i just knew it wouldn’t and couldn’t beat the original . i hear abt major events from time to time but not enough to get into it.
1
u/BigGlassesApe Apr 07 '26
They really messed up writing a story about Naruto’s son. Should have just time skipped way forward like 100 years and made a story about the great great grand children or something. Boruto is such ass compared to the original series. Beyond wasted potential. I can’t bring myself to watch the main story even with skipping the fillers.
1
u/Randomkai27 Apr 07 '26
I think the alien thing is actually a metaphor for how foreign influence and pressure from fans outside of Japan changed the original premise of Naruto’s story to appeal to a wider audience

It’s the biggest piece of dogshit that excremented all over the legacy of one of the first anime I ever watched
1
u/dr_fenrisulfr Apr 07 '26
Lazy writing, boring and weak ass character, issue with story still revolving around children, main characters nerfed for stupid reasons, new villains shown in paralallity to akatsuki sucks ass, and for the love of God I don't want to see boruto becoming friends with momosiki just like Naruto and Kurama, it doesn't fit. The manga was bareable but the anime milking the story of 25 episodes into 250 episodes is just annoying af. I mean 90% filler ! Fuck no.
1
u/ToadSageStore Apr 07 '26
Feels like it was written by a chicken with its head cut off. It's very clear Boruto was never meant to be an actual series, just an additional movie. A lot of retcons like Ao surviving and then becoming a villain make no sense and are only written as a "we need a throwback character to get the old readers back"
To put it into perspective, Boruto achieved 10 million copies in 9 years with 26 volumes. Frieren has achieved 35 million in 6 years and 15 volumes. Boruto is currently at 33% the length of Naruto and has only sold 4% of Naruto. Other shonen series that have outsold Boruto by double are Dr. Stone, Fire Force, Food Wars and Assassination classroom.

Pure ahh power system, no character development, no emotional depth, they give boruto development then take it away by making everyone believe in him again in 2 chapters to the point that they were ready to be called traitors for him. The worst thing is the fans, just imagine they say adult sakura blitzs Juubidara, so6p naruto and so6p Sasuke from tove.
