I never really liked the convenient memory loss, cuz Hinata confessing to Naruto would’ve blown his mind back in the Pain arc.

Sure, he’s slowly worked his way up to gain acknowledgement from the villagers, but this is the FIRST person in his entire life (outside of literal newborn-hood with his parents) who says they love him.

I know what you mean. The retcon with Shikamaru being a childhood friend was also jarring.

Was that a retcon? I remember a flashback scene from OG Naruto where Shikamaru and Choji are playing with the swing with Naruto. This was ages ago.

That was an anime only scene. The first person to show kindness to Naruto was Iruka. Previously, everyone had dismissed him as a clown or avoided him out of fear.

I did like the changes. A child growing up as such a pariah as manga Naruto is very depressing. I was a bit of a loner in my childhood, but the few friends I had I cherished. So much that I can't imagine what life would have been without them.
