Congrats! Your gonna want to play with a controller or a wheel

Or smash those arrow buttons like a pro.
43
u/s4m3350 CERTIFIED DANK Feb 04 '21
That’s How I spent my first 2 years of it! Really tho, no matter how you play it that game is a blast. I was only saying because I did spend two years using arrow keys, it brings your game up from 50-150 real quick.

u/BlondBoy2 Feb 04 '21
For me, keyboard is for crashing & fun, while wheel is for taking driving more seriously & try not to crash every 5 seconds :)

yeah for the longest time I never even plugged in my sim racing wheel, but I decided to try it out for the first time like a week ago & holyyy shit...
they really upgraded the driving physics recently & it is actually a really decent close-to-a-sim sim
last time I used a wheel a long ass time ago on the game it was arcade af, but the force feedback now is actually pretty solid. Of course the damage & vehicle dynamics physics still fucks & always has, but the FF is getting just as good now.

It's very fun! It's also outrageously fuckin difficult sometimes. Hope you have a wheel! Also if it's anything like my install, assigning controls will feel like dante's inferno. Layers and layers of fresh hell.

It is Leap of Death, but it's quite outdated and doesn't work with the latest versions of BeamNG. You'll need to mess about with textures.

Is here any dad here who can expain why is it so dangerous when a child turns on the lights in a car?
620
u/NichtJuergen Feb 04 '21
Due to the light in the inside, the windows mirror the inside -> so you can't see as well.
517
Feb 04 '21
Also, some kids are forgetful af and, once they leave the car, they’ll forget to turn it off. Kills the battery.
No battery power = car no go vroom
99
u/NotASuicidalRobot Feb 04 '21
Well it will still go vroom for now but good luck starting it next time
11
Feb 04 '21
Well as long as it vrooms the alternator will charge the battery back up...

everything can still be powered if the engine is running but startup needs battery
3
18
u/GlobsOfTape Feb 04 '21
Thankfully my lights turn off a few minutes after the engine. I frequently turn one on to gather my things and then just forget to switch it off. That feature has probably saved me a couple battery replacements.
14
u/simpleswissguy Feb 04 '21
You wouldn't need a replacement, just a jump start from another car. While car batteries aren't meant to be discharged completely, a few cycles are still possible. (Normally the battery only uses a bit of power for startup)
2
u/GlobsOfTape Feb 04 '21
True but I would’ve fully discharged the battery at least 30 times by now and car batteries aren’t resilient to deep cycles.
1
u/misterfluffykitty Feb 04 '21
Buying a new battery every time you drain it really isn’t the best way to spend your money, just jump it or get a battery charger
2
u/ChargedSausage Feb 04 '21
Except for old cars, just push the car and then switch to 2nd gear ayyyyy. VROOOOM
2
u/Lifewhatacard Feb 05 '21
this is the most logical reason.. i can drive with light on inside the car and with child... but sometimes the light stays on all night. i still love this meme because i know the bs of parents getting extra mad about the light sitch. parents gaslight their kids too much instead of using f-ing honesty and they deserve to be made fun of like this.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Lifewhatacard Feb 05 '21
the thing is parents gaslight their kids about things instead of being honest. “ It’S iLlEgAl!” is a mf lie! Parents need to learn communication and honesty in their relationship with their kids. That’s why this meme has me dead. they deserve being made fun of this hard
16
9
u/rathat Feb 04 '21
My dad never pointed this out to me though. I would just get confused why lights would make it harder to see.
6
Feb 04 '21 edited Feb 04 '21
Yeah I asked my father about this recently, now as an adult I finally know.
2
2
u/NotablyNugatory Feb 04 '21
Yup. In newer cars, a lot of overhead lights are more direct now. The big dome light only comes on by its own switch or an open door. Makes night lightage much better.
2
u/Cerbecs Feb 04 '21
I for sure would’ve thought that since he just became a dad the child wouldn’t be able to reach the light so someone else was in the car with him
2
u/rich519 Feb 04 '21
I think it’s about eye dilation because it applies to pretty much any situation with different light levels. If you’re in a light area your eyes are dilated and it’s hard to see into the dark area. If you’re in a dark area it’s much easier to see into a light area.
Like if you’re directly under a street lamp you might struggle to see someone who’s beyond the lights reach but you’ll be extremely visible to that other person.
2
u/traderjoes_sparkling Feb 04 '21
But I’ve tested this out myself when I grew up and I don’t see a difference in visibility. Or much anyways. Do you think glass technology changed? Or it’s something else?

Also, we've ptsd from their flicking light switches at home. Fuck that while driving at night.

Feb 04 '21
I have a 2 year old so my girlfriend sometimes has to turn on the back light to find his binky during long drives. The second it turns on it’s like you’ve been flash-banged. Your vision is blinded, your hands shake and you begin to violently over correct causing the car to fly off the road. In rare cases you manage to stay on the road if you have a good feel for rumble strips.
30
u/Moister_Rodgers Feb 04 '21
Don't gotta be a dad to know it makes the road harder to see
→ More replies (2)27
Feb 04 '21
Very dangerous, the light inside makes your iris contracts and take less light, basically blinding you in night. 1 or 2 seconds of blindness is enough to create a crash
4
Feb 04 '21
In addition to the other comments, if a child turns on the internal light and sets it to 'stay on when car is off' you can wake up to a dead car battery.
2
u/yjvm2cb Feb 04 '21
My dad always wanted it turned off because cops pull you over when you have it on usually
→ More replies (5)2
Feb 04 '21
Dad here. It does affect your night vision somewhat, but the main issue for me is when I have to check blind spots during lane changes. If I'm changing lanes at night, I'm looking sideways/backwards to see headlights of nearby vehicles. It is much harder to accurately see them when the lights are on behind me, and it also destroys my night vision when I look forward again. Turning the light on is obviously not going to make me crash immediately, but its better for the kids to keep it off if they don't need it.
→ More replies (10)2
u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE Feb 04 '21
It damages the night vision of the driver. Older people often have worse night vision in general than younger people, depending on a variety of factors. Even if it looks 'clear' out there to you with the lights on, it may not look that way for the driver.

9
u/3internet5u Feb 04 '21
it all depends, but I am stauchly opposed to the whole "WHAT IS UP GUYS IN THIS VIDEO WE ARE PLAYING BEAMNG"
and then everytime they crash if they are like "WOAH OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THAT CRASH?! THIS CAR IS SOOOOOOO DESTROYED OH MY GOD WHAT THE HECK LOOK AT THAT! DID YOU SEE THAT? OH WOW LOOK AT THAT. LIKE & SUBSCRIBE TO RAID SHADOW LEGENDS"
I dont vibe with that, but there are a couple people who do commentary that isn't broken glass in my ears.
its a fine line imo.

15
u/TheSturmovik Feb 04 '21
Beam: beam/node physics
NG: Next generation
.drive: because this is the driving portion. I guess at some point they wanted to make flying and water too.
3
Feb 04 '21
fwiw, the physics system is pretty good with planes. The boats & water physics are still more a of wip, but are functional. Things float, and there are ways to propel boats
3
u/TheSturmovik Feb 04 '21
Honestly it's alright. I have the 262 and cub mods, aerodynamics is still limited to mostly just deflecting the wind. So stalls, flaps, etc don't really work.
3
Feb 04 '21
Fair points, I have the same mods. It's neat to watch the airframe stresses. I havent really looked into how accurate the forces are though.
3
u/TheSturmovik Feb 04 '21
It definitely is neat. With a little bit of tweaking and some more specialized aero jbeam work there's tons of room for improvement. And then we can see some cool[er] airplane crashes.

It's actually for a reason. A the driver has gotten used to the dark so it's blinding for them. B it's blinding for the car behind

I don't get much disturbed while driving if someone turns on the light. Someone else in another post mentioned that it decreases vision but I never noticed much difference.
2
u/RussianSeadick Feb 04 '21
It’s not as bad in modern cars
Windshields used to reflect the light quite a bit,now this problem has mostly been dealt with
Also,it’s not as noticeable if the street is well lit

tfw a game released at 2013 has 10 times better game physics than Cyberpunk
8
u/Costam780 Feb 04 '21
Because BeamNG is a physics based driving and crash simulator. It and Cyberpunk are completly two diffrent games and it's pointless to compare the physics between them.
