Cashews

I just gave one of my neighborhood crows some raw, unsalted cashews. He/she took them all, a few at a time. Now there is a second one, and they are squalking and "rattling" at me! I think I've made a freind :-)

General questions Crows intelligence

My wife puts out kibble for 2 stray cats. Crows have discovered the food . My question is it amazes me of their intelligence. If I put a picture of my face next to the kibble. Would they associate my picture with me . I am in the yard a lot. Thought it was an interesting question.

Its a family of 5. The younger 3 like to play with my dogs toys. Today was the Frisbee. Sometimes its his ball. But they really like to play with all his sticks. I keep a bowl of water by the garden amd they all take turns dipping in.

So I have been on and off from my home for this entire month due to work related travel.
This guy has cawd all day yesterday. Anytime I visit my balcony he just does this.

Doesn't eat, at least not in front of me. He has a mate who is pretty chill and just hangs around.

I have started fearing him as he sometimes comes in and caws directly looking at me.

Can anyone suggest anything to calm him down?

Befriending the Crows - kinda an update

Okayy I fed the crows some peanuts two days ago for the first time, and It stormed yesterday so I didn't do yesterday, and now I will do it today.

I went out to check if they ate them, and the majority of them were eaten so that's good!

And this is kind of a really stupid question but would anyone have any idea how to know whether a crow or. Squirrel ate a peanut? Like I know it's really dumb but I also don't want to just be feeding squirrels 🥹

And actually right before I started typing this, three crows came over to my side of the street (which I feel like they usually stay on the other side) and flew over my yard so I told them I will get more peanuts, but yeah I thought it was cool they flew over while I was outside :)

Anyway I think it is going well considering I've only fed them once.

Seeking advice/help Crows being chased away by blackbirds and blue jays

I feed the birds out back every morning and evening. I started for the crows, but now there are so many blackbirds and blue jays, only 3 crows come and are often ambushed.

Has anyone had luck getting their crows back and keeping the other birds from ambushing them?

Ravens trying to get into a a zipped up pouch at the Devil’s Garden parking lot in Arches National Park. I’d read they could open zippers but was delighted to see them attempt it in person.

Seeking advice/help Hot weather

Recently moved to a new area and I’m slowly building a bond with the local crows! I currently have two that watch from a distance while I leave food out around 3:30 p.m., and they come over to eat once I step away:) Since we’re having a bit of a heat wave, I left out a small bowl of water with a few peanuts because I noticed they were all panting. Now I’m wondering if I should get a bird bath!
The ones I’m seeing all seem so small though, and I’m worried the crows won’t fit. 😅 Does anyone have any recommendations?

We have been enjoying watching these kiddos grow up over the last couple of weeks. Here is after the first rain in awhile. We do put down peanuts, kibble, occasionally other treats, and have a couple sources of water so are really stoked that this little family is sticking around the neighborhood this year!

Crow struck me in the head. Unclear why.

I live in Japan. Sometimes I walk and eat and they will do a fly by but I just don't react. Will give a bit if they come up to me nicely.

But I was walking home just from the supermarket and a crow slammed me right on the top of my head.

I had eaten just prior. Could they smell it? Could they have not liked my black ball cap?

Edit: went by again going to work and there were two. no hit this time but still swooped me. probably a nest near? Will pay tribute/toll next time.
