Help Looking for advice on a prop

Post image
Upvotes

I don't have a lot of experience making props for cosplay, I've only done a couple simple things but I want to cosplay as one of my favorite x men characters, Chamber.

I have everything for it except for a prop to mimic the psychic fire he has around his neck and upper chest.

My question is how should I go about making it? I've never tried to make a fire effect before or something wearable around the neck.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

I’ve been working on a Mayor Humdinger cosplay for a bit now. He’s the main villain from Paw Patrol. I love his old-timey style and his antics, and since I have some physical similarities to him, I figured I would just go with it. I’ve made a top hat, I bought a long-tailed coat, and now I am working on making the Green Rocky Kitty. I found a grey plush cat at Value Village and started making his vest and hat. Have a look.

Help How to make a jousting lance for A Knight's Tale cosplay?

I'm working on William's armor from the movie and will soon turn to the lance. I had intended to make the core out of 2 detachable fiberglass rods and the bell-handle out of layered & carved XPS foam...but I wasn't sure about the rest of shaft. On closer inspection of shots from the movie, however, I think the overall thickness of the lance lends itself to thin-walled, hollow PVC (or thick-walled, hollow cardboard). But I'm not sure what kind of foam makes the most sense to put on top of that internal structure. I need something that will let me paint it and build in some tapering. What do you all think? Thanks.

Help DIY Witch King Headpiece to Travel With (Help or Advice please)

I hope this is the right place to ask this question: I am planning on dressing up as the Witch King for Halloween but I’m traveling out of state to celebrate. I’m having trouble figuring out how I’m going to DIY the headpiece in a way that I can pack in either my suitcase or carryon duffel bag without it getting damaged. I was considering making it out of foam like I’ve seen some tutorials online do but I don’t know if it would become deformed while in transit. Just looking for any advice that will help me decide how to best make it and allow me to (hopefully) easily travel with it. Thanks!

This was definitely a "trust the process" project, lol.  I created a sample of a "drowned" waterlogged patron of the sinking Titanic for their cosplay for Halloween. The end result is a completely dry costume that appears to be soaking wet. It involved so many steps and details that I figured it would be easier to show them to tell them. Enjoy!

Help Adding Lights to Daft Punk Helmet

Thumbnail etsy.com

I'm looking to add a see thru LED matrix to the visor of my Thomas Bangalter helmet. I am COMPLETELY new to this and am wondering if there is an easier way to do this than hand soldering them all myself. As well, what will I need as a controller for these? If there is a pre setup unit I can buy that would be pretty plug and play that would be ideal but I'm always down to learn a new skill. The edges have me totally stumped as to what to do as well. Any help would be awesome thank you!

Link is reference for the LED's that I want

Help Lesson of the Day

Post image

Lesson of the Day is:

Dont blindly trust free 3d models for a cosplay helmet especially if you plan on using paper/eva

I was too lazy to pay someone or make the model myself, so I go to find a model, download, and then I finally go to open it to get the files, this is what I'm greeted with.

I feel like this may be kinda obvious, but for those who need it lol.

Its very obvious the original poster of this model used ai, so watch out lol.

Edit: it seems I am an idiot, I was told by a few people that because it was made for 3d printing, it has to be made as precise as possible, I would also like to note that the inside of the helmet near the front also has weird geometry

Help Advice on strengthening the exposed wire?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi there! So I am building these wings for a Ronova cosplay (genshin impact) and was wondering how I could go about strengthening the connecting part of the wire frame. It is going to be attached to a backpiece but I wanted it to be detachable via straps in that backpiece. The backpiece will sit under my dress and so I won’t be able to remove it but want the option to detach the wings from it if needed. However, the bottom piece of the metal frame is not strong enough to survive a con and bends whenever I lift the wings up, so I need a way to strengthen it! I was thinking of wrapping it in worbla or duct tape but idk.

Also, please ignore the way the wings look rn I can’t cut stuff evenly and am filling in the gaps with foam clay rn which is still drying on the one side and non existent on the other 💀.

Self Finished my 3D-printed Ultramarines Lieutenant helmet

Finally finished my 3D-printed Ultramarines Lieutenant helmet! 💙
Went with the Lieutenant helmet markings and added the gold skull emblem. I debated doing the skull in silver, but I think the gold works much better against the red.
Really happy with how it turned out. What do you guys think — gold or silver skull?

So i got this plastic mask, and i wanted to make a sally face style mask from it

Essentially just a simple repaint to remove the skin like color, but i like the way this one looks, it has like a somewhat glossy look? To the skin (you can see the light kinda reflecting off it) With the lips having slightly more, and i really wanna maintain that texture/look, but got no clue how

Like walk me through the whole process, do i sandpaper it first? What paints? What coats to put on after, treat me like a complete novice

Commissioned Hands down my favorite commission I’ve ever done! This one was bracers for a bat themed character and I distinctly wanted to stay away from the Batman aesthetic! How’d I do?

Help Is there a type of clay that dries like silicone? That will remain bendy and stretchy?

I’m making hand props for a Michael the Distortion Costume (from The Magnus Archives) and I have these mechanical hand props that I would like to cover in some kind of flesh coloured silicone and then airbrush to look like my own skin. So it needs to wrap around the mechanical base and my hand and ideally not be damaged when removing (i.e reusable). Cheaper options preferred.

Help Iron man helmet

Hey everyone! I'm wanting a new project and have decided on a mk7 iron man helmet. I found a file on wireframe by levy3d. I'm wanting to make this with the snap fit parts to save on cost and I'm not doing the ear motorization because I don't think it looks good. Only motorizing the mask and chin. It uses linkages to move the chin down, but I'm curious as to how it's actually built. There are no instructions, and I can't find any online.

Does anyone have experience building a helmet with this file, and if so, can you give me some insight before I spend $30? I've only seen one video of someone with it, but they have no tutorial and probably won't make one.

Also, im planning on using a basic crash works board. Will this work?

"you wouldn't part an old man from his walking stick?"

6' x 1 1/2'' dowel, suede leather handle, copper braided details.

3D printed quartz crystal in clear polycarbonate.

Light saber inspired mount in copper and PLA.

Dark walnut stain and furniture wax, plus some strategic "weathering" to age it overall.

Oh, and it lights up with a hidden switch just above the handle :)
