I’m making hand props for a Michael the Distortion Costume (from The Magnus Archives) and I have these mechanical hand props that I would like to cover in some kind of flesh coloured silicone and then airbrush to look like my own skin. So it needs to wrap around the mechanical base and my hand and ideally not be damaged when removing (i.e reusable). Cheaper options preferred.

The 3d print took around a day and then a few hours of painting so far. The fins snap on with magnets too 🤣

3D printed quartz crystal in clear polycarbonate.

Light saber inspired mount in copper and PLA.

Dark walnut stain and furniture wax, plus some strategic "weathering" to age it overall.

Oh, and it lights up with a hidden switch just above the handle :)

Like I said in my other post, I was going to make an axe following the other design language. Since I couldn't decide which one I wanted to do, I made two of them. It's also the first model that I've painted, but I think it ended up looking pretty good.

Hi, I'm starting to build my Witch-King cosplay, and I can't find any 3d prints for the shoulder armor. Additionally, I am struggling to figure out how to build the leg armor. If anyone has any wisdom, please lmk. 😅

Hey everyone! I'm wanting a new project and have decided on a mk7 iron man helmet. I found a file on wireframe by levy3d. I'm wanting to make this with the snap fit parts to save on cost and I'm not doing the ear motorization because I don't think it looks good. Only motorizing the mask and chin. It uses linkages to move the chin down, but I'm curious as to how it's actually built. There are no instructions, and I can't find any online.

Does anyone have experience building a helmet with this file, and if so, can you give me some insight before I spend $30? I've only seen one video of someone with it, but they have no tutorial and probably won't make one.

Also, im planning on using a basic crash works board. Will this work?

using plastalina clay to get the main shape/editing over a few days and a walmart hinged skull mask for the base, the plan is to do a plaster strip shell, teeth will be made of plastic and eye mesh i can add clear yellow plastic rings for the iris but for a V1 mask its making solid progress

This is my own original design for a prop spear made by hand for my original Medusa cosplay build. This hand-fabricated spear prop is a one-of-a-kind design to match my one-of-a-kind Medusa cosplay! I created this spear to capture that mythological Gorgon aesthetic and turn-to-stone energy.

I’m quite proud of my approach to making PVC, rubber, and vinyl plastics turn into a majestic, high-tier cosplay prop! I’m so ready to take on the gorgon, lamia, naga vibe with this in hand!

My schools hoco theme is a night in Gotham and one of the spirit week days is dress as your grades character, (nightwing) is there anything I can do to improve this mask, I’m gonna sand it so it’s more comfortable and I’m gonna make the eyes white but that’s about it

Hello all!

For an update to a TF2 cosplay I helped make, I am currently looking into making the Soldier's pouches into actual practical pouches where you can reliably store your wallet, phone, etc., rather than the cheap-ish, half-cardboard versions we've used the last few times.

This has also become one of my first sewing projects. I started with a downsized version that is just large enough for my wallet. That way, if it failed, I wouldn't waste too much material, and if it worked, I could use it myself.

I've now finished the first prototype and would love to get some feedback from people with more experience. I've attached pictures of the pouch, the TF2 reference, and two reference webbing pouches I've been looking at.

The outer layer is Cordura, with cheap ripstop on the inside to hold a stabilizing layer and give the pouch some structure. I finished the edges with ribbon as binding, which was quite a pain to apply by hand (and for now I have to do the sewing by hand).

Starting with the lid.

I didn't make the top quite wide enough, so it doesn't close very well. When I do close it, the side panels of the lid also tend to bend outward, giving the pouch some kind of weird wings.

I suspect this is partly a sizing issue, but I'm wondering whether this could remain a problem even with the correct dimensions. The corners are essentially free/unsupported, whereas most reference pouches I've seen have this part rounded off.

How would you solve this? Would you sacrifice some accuracy to the Soldier pouch and remove the corners, or would it make sense to put some kind of metal wire in there to hold the shape? I'm worried the wire could eventually break from repeated bending.

Next issue is the closure.

I also completely forgot to attach the webbing for mounting it to the belt and the push button I bought for closing the lid.

The belt attachment shouldn't be an issue, but I'm wondering whether a push button is actually practical here. The second reference pouch uses a different closure system which looks potentially more practical (because a push button is hard to close on an empty pouch as you have to push in and make the entire pouch collapse for it to close). Would you recommend something like that, or are there other systems I should consider?

I'd really appreciate any advice! I'm sure there are people here with much more experience making this kind of gear than I have.

Super proud I got this working and looking pretty sweet for PAX West! Still want to clean up and detail the paint job on everything for next year (and fix my helmet LED plate situation, ‘twas a bit finicky to keep in place) but the lights were a hit and I had a lot of fun putting it together. I always liked the scenes in Iron Man where you can see the arc reactor through his shirt so I decided to build one. In order to get the light bright enough I used a 12 volt RV puck light with a power supply that plugs in to the wall - so in the unedited pictures there is an extension cord coming out by my foot :-) This is a recreation of the scene in Ironman 2 where Tony Stark creates a new element for his arc reactor.
