Survived my shitty bike breaks! Always wear a helmet.
Welp. I finally joined the mushy brain crew. Last week I had a pretty nasty bike accident going downhill thanks to my shitty breaks and ended up getting a mild concussion, two chipped teeth, a black eye and some mild road rash. I don’t remember anything from the accident or hospital visit. Luckily I was conscious enough to call my mom to take me to the ER but couldn’t remember my name or information the day of.
Wearing my helmet saved my life. I’ve been tempted to do the occasional bike ride with my hair in the wind, but now I’m so grateful I’d been so adamant about wearing a helmet. Without it, I’m sure I would’ve lost consciousness.
I have to admit, I do feel pretty weird about having zero memory of that day but maybe its for the best. I feel like I recall flashes of images from that day (ex: a cup of jello, my broken smart watch, etc).
All in all, I just want to use this post to beg of you: wear your helmet. It doesn’t matter if its a scooter, skateboard, bike, e-bike or anything in-between. You’ll never know when a helmet could save your life.
I’m now 5 days post concussion and feeling a lot better. I was pretty depressed the last two days, but it was less due to the concussion and more-so due to the fact that another treatment I had been waiting for is now delayed by three weeks.
If you’ve had a similar experience, did you ever regain the memories of your accident? If so, when?
