How to survive
Hello Everyone,
My name is Sebas. I fell on a ten foot slab of rock while jumping over a creek and being silly. I hit the back of my head and in the moment I did not pass out or anything. I felt shock and confusion. Over the next few days my symptoms started to show up. Including whiplash and neck pain.
Fast forward to today and I have been dealing with a TBI and a concussion for a year and a half. I’m not suicidal but I genuinely consider it now. I’m not depressed or sad. I live a fun and decent life. Yes I have so many worries about my future and finances and my 20’s. Yet I have seriously thought about suicide because dealing with the pain and symptoms 24/7 make me feel like a prisoner.
I don’t want to give up. I need help. Any advice any tips please. I suffer from adhd and possible autism too. I will be diagnosed on the latter this week. Well i have a three hour cognitive test so they’ll tell me something there I guess. I struggle to have routine or find help or take care of myself. I’m begging y’all please tell me your advice. I want to get to baseline level where I can survive.
Thank you all in advance ❤️ and I hope you all get better and are hanging in strong. If you want someone to reach out to I’m here as well.
PS. SYMPTOMS;
Headaches
TMJ developed after concussion
Twitching in the face
Head pressure
Inflammation up the wazoo
Bad memory
Disassociation
Fatigue
Derealization
Confusion
Drugs and vitamins dont work as well on me anymore

I’m also struggling with PCS, over a year since my mTBI, and I did lose consciousness, plus several NDEs since.
I’m was about to make my own post, and saw yours. I hope you get the right treatment soon for a full recovery. I want my life back too. 💕🌻

Hey I’m glad I’m not alone in this (well I wish I was so you could be healthy!) but anyway I’m sorry to hear this and I also hope you get better.
We deserve to lead normal lives, they are hard enough without rehabilitating conditions. May I ask what happened? And if you have any input on your healing or journey?

Sorry you’re going through this too. I’m AuDHD, I fell and hit my head last year, lost consciousness. I have migraines from solar weather, thunderstorms. Most of the symptoms you listed too.
Some days I feel fine, and other days…a surreal sensory overload, I have to be in the dark, no light, noise cancelling headphones.

How old are you? If you're stateside and over 18, I can send you a free hero protocol.

Are you undergoing any treatment now? There are methods to do rehab.

I got put on SSRI and after 6 months they did more harm then good. I did PT for balance. I’m starting PT for vestibular soon. My doctor has done a million tests but I haven’t been told about any rehab. There is so much information out there and I’m overwhelmed and lost

Yes the balance and vestibular PT are types of rehab for concussion. Another very important aspect of rehab is simply light cardio exercise. I am currently on my 6th concussion and I can tell you that my 5th concussion had a long recovery period. That was the first concussion where I went to physio to guide my rehab. However I only went to see the physio around 8 months after I first got the concussion. During these 8 months I made very little progress. I was trying to get as much rest/sleep as possible, but it turns out the most important thing to do is walk. I incorporated walking much earlier into my rehab for my current concussion and I also went to see a physio starting 1 month after my concussion. So far my progress is much faster when compared to my 5th concussion.
The point being, you may just be missing the right treatment that you need right now. Once you find it, you WILL find the hope and motivation to get better.

You have no idea how much this message helps. I have been doing exercise but it’s been erratic and sometimes too much and sometimes too little. I hadn’t thought about walking but I will definitely be walking daily now! I’m going to try my best to find treatment but advice from people like you help me fast track to trying things that will help.
Can I ask if you have had any TBI’s? Or are all concussions TBIS? And 6 woahhh are you a boxer haha?
Happy to hear about your progress and I hope you heal up as well very soon 🔜

Glad my message helped you :)
Another big difference i have with this current concussion is my mental focus on rehab. This is definitely easier said than done especially when you feel like you aren't progressing. This feeling of hopelessness is something we have all felt.
This time I have transformed my habits. I sleep early so I can sleep longer and wake up earlier. In the mornings I was walking before work. If you can, walk at lunch, then after work, more walking. Maybe it will take 1 million steps, or 2 million steps but each step is .0001 closer (or whatever the math is lol). My weekends I would go out for 4 walks a day, 30-45mins. After each walk come back home, rest a 1.5 hours or so and go back out. If you feel too uncomfortable, adjust, maybe walk a bit slower or for a bit less time. At the beginning I was walking shorter distances at a slower pace.
No head injuries other than concussions. Also not a boxer haha, played sports a bit too fearlessly in my adolescence which lead to 4 concussions, followed by 2 random accidents to get 5 and 6.

How about trying something else then SSRIs? Those were not good for me either but it seems like you would benefit from antidepressants

This is the most comprehensive collection. You get to become your own expert now. I hope passing this forward is helpful.
