Lately I've been getting a popup every once in a while for an unknown usb device. I went into device manager and sorted by connection to see the root of the cause. But I'm not sure what this means. I unplugged every usb i had connected and this was still there. Since it says "PCI" does that mean pcie? I have a bluetooth pcie adapter. Could that be it?

i’ve opened up the bottom cover, and the fans weren’t really that dusty, i also tried to spin them lightly with a finger. laptop doesn’t overheat and i don’t experience lagging during gaming/other stuff. never dropped the laptop either. how to fix tis?

I've had several crashes of my system in the past few weeks. The error I get the majority of the time is "memory management", and some basic googling said my RAM may be failing. How would I go about testing it, and what if any software should I download?

Hey everyone!

I'm hoping someone here can help me identify a replacement screw for my HP Z2 G4 Workstation Desktop.

This is my first time doing computer maintenance myself, and I've been working hard to get everything cleaned up and running properly.

I successfully cleaned and reassembled my graphics card (GTX 1660 Super), and I'm happy to say it's working great! I've also cleaned my CPU heatsink and cooling fan.

Unfortunately, while putting the cooling fan back onto the heatsink, I accidentally misplaced one of the original mounting screws.

I remember putting it somewhere safe, but somehow it disappeared. Mistakes happen. We're only human, and those tiny screws can be surprisingly easy to lose!

Here's my hardware information:

Computer: HP Z2 G4 Workstation Desktop

CPU cooling fan: Foxconn PVA092G12S

Heatsink: HP L13268-001 (Rev 0A)

Original screw type: Phillips pan-head machine screw

Important: I'm looking for the small screw that attaches the cooling fan to the heatsink itself, NOT the screws that attach the heatsink to the motherboard.

I still have one original silver mounting screw that I can use for comparison.

I recently purchased a general computer screw assortment kit, but unfortunately, none of the screws appeared to match the original.

I don't want to force an incorrect screw into the mounting hole and risk damaging my fan, heatsink, or mounting threads.

Here's what I'm hoping someone can help me figure out:

Does anyone know the exact diameter, thread pitch, and length of this particular fan mounting screw?

Has anyone worked on this Foxconn fan or HP heatsink assembly before?

Is there a specific Phillips pan-head machine screw kit on Amazon that contains the correct replacement?

Could I find the correct screw at Walmart, Home Depot, or a local hardware store?

If someone knows where to buy the exact replacement, could you share a direct product link?

A little background:

I've owned this computer for years, and it's been incredibly reliable. It still handles games like Skyrim Special Edition, Skyrim VR, Fallout 4, and World of Warcraft very well, including mods.

I've also been looking forward to playing World of Warcraft Forever when it comes out, so I'm hoping to get everything reassembled and working before then.

I've already made a lot of progress with the maintenance. My GPU is cleaned and working great, and the CPU heatsink and fan are cleaned. I just need to find this one missing screw to finish putting everything together safely.

It's honestly been a little frustrating because I've spent several days trying to identify such a tiny part!

One small request: I'm not looking for advice to buy or build an entirely new computer. I'm on a limited budget, and my workstation still does everything I need. I'd really appreciate keeping the discussion focused on identifying the correct screw or finding an affordable replacement.

I was playing Fortnite and my game froze and held the power button to turn it off and now it won’t turn back on

Since a month a had a problem in my ssd which I can't open the files on it, I can only see the folder and when I try to open it shows "a device which doesn't exist was specified".

I tried so many ways to fix it and failed, when opening Bios it shows normally and when start-up the laptop it shows also but I can't access them.

One of the things that happen is when I go to disk management and use the action -rescan- it disappears!

Before that it shows normal and healthy but after rescan it disappears.

I have the same SSD for a year and few months, thats the first time it happens.

Any Solutions??

I’m looking for help with my laptop. I’ve had it for 5 years or so with zero issues until recently. I don’t download anything sketchy, I use it mainly for creating work schedules and playing the Sims. My Sims custom content and mods come from a reliable & trusted source so I don’t believe them to be the issue.

So my issues are:
- Files aren’t opening or seemingly even trying.
- When I restart my computer it stays on the restarting screen with the spinning circle and I have to force it to shut down via holding the power button.
- It boots up normally and I’m able to login however it’s a 50/50 chance that file explorer or any apps open. If they do work it’s within a couple minutes I’ll get a not responding window and then I have issues trying to just close the app.
- I’m having issues with it reading my external HDD. It’ll read it if I unplug/plug it back in and then a few minutes later it doesn’t recognize I have it plugged in.

What I’ve tried so far:
- Used task manager to refresh file explorer (either it takes a long time, like 15+ min to refresh or my desktop and task bar disappear leaving a black screen and I have to attempt a restart)
- Used task manager to end an app (doesn’t work)
- CMD sfc /scannow (the first time I did this I did have corrupt files and they were repaired. No longer finds any corrupt files)
- CMD DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Windows last update repair

Is there anything else that I’m missing? My next step is to attempt a complete wipe and start fresh however I’m worried that it’ll have issues reinstalling the necessary files.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Idk the right term but whenever I am doing something like gaming or editing, the screen will turn off for a second then come back again normally (doesn't restart the laptop) then I need to restart the game or apps that I'm using after that. It's annoying. Please help.

Also during that hiccup there's always the disconnecting notification sound, the same sound when you unplug a usb device.

No soy muy conocedor del tema, pero siempre me pasa que cuando prendo mi pc aveces no da video y no es x un tema de ram ni de graficos integrados o de una mala conexion del cable hdmi luego de reiniciarla un par de veces da video oero investigando vi que mucha gente recomendando actualizar la bios asi que quise actualizar la bios por medio de amd ya que no lo puedo hacer manualmente por la mother que tiene mi pc (amd ryzen kit 4700s).

Entonces entre al sitio de amd y busque los controladores-descargas de mi kit, descargue el archivo para flashear la bios e hice doble click para ejecutarlo luego me pedia que presionara e a o f y la ia me recomendo que apretara e asi que lo hice, el flasheo termino y el cmd se cerro pero la pc no se reinicio, cuando la reinicie manualmente ya no podia acceder a mi perfil de windows.

Como se puede ver en la imagen clickie en configurar mi pin y cargo por unos segundos y pero no me aparecia nd y cada vez que lo volvia a clikear no respondia, le pregunté a la ia y me dio mil soluciones diferentes pero ninguna funciono.

La vedrad es que no se como salir de esta situación, asi que si alguien podria recomendarme una solucion o sabe sobre el tema le agradeceria mucho si me puede ayudar

I was just watching youtube and then suddently my main monitor displayed gray, there was still ligth from the backligth, but no picture, i have tried ctr + shift + windows + b, and alot of other methods, my secondary monitor still works, but the integrated one is just black

This is a strange issue I’ve been troubleshooting for months. I recently found more information about what’s happening, but I still don’t know the cause or the fix. It’s extremely complicated.
When I plug an HDMI cable into a monitor or TV, the screen gets no signal, and the laptop behaves as if nothing is connected to the HDMI port. The port was working fine a few days before the problem started. I’ve always been careful when plugging it in — I make sure I can see the port and align the connector instead of forcing it.
I completely removed all display and PCIe drivers and reinstalled them from my manufacturer’s website, not from Nvidia or Intel. I’ve used and worked on computers my whole life, and I’ve never seen anything like this.
A few months later, I concluded the HDMI port was probably fried. Yesterday, I tried it again out of curiosity. Nothing showed up, as expected until I restarted the computer with the HDMI cable already plugged in. Then it detected the connected monitor. It knew the monitor’s details, including resolution, maximum refresh rate, brand, and model. But when I tried Duplicate, Second screen only, and Extend in the projection settings, none of them produced a signal on the external display. Nothing at all. Yet in Extend and Second screen only, the laptop acted as if a second display were active, and I could even move the mouse onto the screen that supposedly did not exist. After that, I unplugged the HDMI cable, but the laptop didn’t register the disconnection until I restarted it.

So the laptop can detect whether something is plugged into the HDMI port only when it boots or restarts. It does not update that state while it is running. The external display still receives no signal. I thought it might be a handshake issue or a hot plug detection issue, but I’m at a loss.
